The Department organised a Social Outreach Program (SOP) for 3rd Sem MCA students. The plan was to visit RVM Philanthropic Home at Chikka Gubbi Village. RVM Philanthropic Home is a Rehabilitation Centre giving shelter to old and handicapped orphans. The staff coordinator of the programme was Prof. Jyothi Manoj and student coordinators were Shashikumar C and Supreeth R. As we scheduled, we started from our campus at 11:15 am and reached there at 11:25 am. A Total of 44 Students of III MCA class and 3 faculty members of the department Prof. Muruganantham, Prof. Velmurugan and Dr. Ambika visited the centre.
On reaching the centre, the complete 44 students were divided into 4 groups, under the leadership of Vijaya J, Nithin Koshy, Shijo Shajy and Shilpa GS. Students performed different activities in four different venues. The activities included interaction with them, making them to play different kinds of Games, music and dances. All this was done with a purpose to entertain them. Also our students gave a helping hand in doing some kitchen, serving and cleaning services.
As a part of SOP, the staff as well as students contributed a total amount of RS.13020, which was used to buy them necessaries like toothbrush, paste, soap and a Horlicks packs. We also managed to sponsor the lunch for them.
The SOP in short was a very realistic experience for the students to get to know about the struggles and pains of the weaker section of the society. We would like to thank the management for giving us this opportunity, Head of our Department Prof. Kumar for giving us the essential guidelines, Prof. Jyothi Manoj for coordinating the visit and Prof. Muruganantham, Prof. Velmurugan and Dr. Ambika for accompanying with us.
