A Guest Lecture on 'International Business Strategy' was organized by the Department of Commerce for the final year B.Com students on 9th February, 2016 at 11.00 am in the SKE Auditorium. The session was taken by Prof. Simon Sweeney, Senior Lecturer in International Business and International Political Economy, The York Management School, UK.
Mr. Arnold Andrews welcomed the gathering. Prof. Vijayakumar. R, Head of the Department of Commerce welcomed the Chief Guest with a bouquet of flowers.
Prof. Sweeney began the session with 'BRICS and the Global Economy 2016'. He gave insights on the impact of globalization on the BRICS nations, where he quoted "Stability is what humanity requires for survival". He spoke about how the 1985 TRIAD is connected with globalization and how it results in development. During his talk, he also discussed about the takeover of Jaguar by Tata, which was appreciated for saving the brand.
The session continued with Neo-Liberalization; under which, Privatisation, Liberalization of finance, Deregulation etc. were discussed. Prof. Sweeney spoke about his analysis on the Political Economy of India, China, Japan and their impact on globalization. He also discussed the significance of Neo-Liberalization in development of nations with Japan as an example.
After the lecture, he had an interactive session with the students.
The session was concluded by a vote of thanks by Mr. Arnold Andrews.
