On the 18th of December 2015 a guest lecture was conducted by the Department of Life Science for both the PG and UG students. The guest lecture was presided over by renowned research scientist Dr. Guru Prasad Ramakrishna, Ph.D. Scientific Director of Durga Femto technologies and research, who enlightened us with his genetic research on toxicology testing of zebra fishes. He explained that he had implemented the use of these fishes embryos for the screening of the toxicity in the medical device, thus biomedical researchers can screen thousands of polymers in less than a week. He pointed out that this process was economically significant as it reduced time and expenses. He then concluded by saying that his way of testing had better sensitivity and was able to generate more scientific data than the small animal tests suggested by the F.D.A, also saving time and money as the embryos develop in 24 hours. This proved to be interesting and fascinating for the students as they listened attentively to what the wise scientist had to say. At the end of the session the students were given an opportunity to have an interactive session with Dr. Guru Prasad who was ever ready to answer all the questions and queries of students’. The program was concluded by the felicitation of Dr. Guru Prasad by the H.O.D Dr. Elcey C.D. and with this the session came to an end.
