A two day workshop on "Tax Management" was conducted on the 2nd and 3rd of March, 2016 by the Department of Commerce. The Guest Speaker for the workshop was Ms. Nimi Mohan. She is a Commerce Graduate with an enriching industry experience of 4 years. She has been associated with many audit firms like Ernst and Young, R.K. Khanna and Associates and currently is a partner with Anchala and Muhsin Chartered Accountants.
This two day workshop was attended by the students of 6th Semester B.Com Professional (2013-16 Batch). During this workshop topics relating to "filing of returns" and "TDS" were covered.
The students got an insight as to how returns are to be filed, the process to file them and various forms relating to it.
On the 1st day the students learnt about basics of returns, due dates for filing returns, and where to file them. Mam also gave us information about Form 16 and Form 16A. She also gave us a live demo on how the website looks and what is the procedure for the above.
On the 2nd day, Mam spoke to us about Tax deducted at source, Section 194C and due date for filing of return. Mam also gave us information on Service tax and its implementation.
"We final year students are placed in different companies and in another 4 months time we will be earning. This workshop has helped us understand as to how tax slabs are levied on our income and how we are supposed to pay them", said Shraddha, a final year B.Com Professional student.
Altogether, the event was successful in its aim to give students an insight into tax management and to help them in improving their skills. We owe our gratitude to our Principal Fr. Josekutty P.D and the Management, to the Dean Prof. Aloysius Edward, to our HoD Prof. Vijayakumar. R who envisioned such a workshop. We would also like to thank Prof. Mohammed Umair and Prof. Cherian Thomas, who co-ordinated this event for us.
