The Department of Social Work organized an expert lecture on "The Role of Technology in Rural Development" on 08th of July, 2016 at Kristu Jayanti College. The resource person of the session was Mr. Sreekanth S. Rameshaiah, Executive Director, Mahiti InfoTech, Bengaluru. Along with him were present Mr. Chetan H.R. Manager and Mr. Ashish Jacob from the same organization.
The speaker explained on the traditional methods that were used in different sectors like education, health, agriculture and the role that the technology plays in the current scenario. He also elucidated on the tools that are presently being used towards enhancing social development. Various real time illustrations pertaining to the agricultural, educational and financing sectors were explained in order to bring clear understanding on the application and efficacy of various products launched by Mahiti InfoTech.
At the end of the session, the floor was open for discussion and queries. The students raised questions on the funding aspects, challenges faced by the organization and on the advantages and limitations of the applications. Mr. Sreekanth S. Rameshaiah clarified the doubts and queries with practical examples. Thereafter, contributions made by the Mahiti InfoTech towards social development were presented by the speaker and his team members assisted in widening the students’ understanding through a demo of the application called "Survey MIS" that they had developed for research. Hence, the students had a fruitful experience by imbibing practical knowledge from the veterans who dedicate their technological expertise towards the development of the society.
