Rural Exposure Camp

Place: Kannamangala village, Daddaballapur Taluk, Karnataka

Objective

Rural Exposure was conducted by the Department of Commerce PG & Department of Economics with an objective of providing an opportunity to the student fraternity to gain practical skills and be exposed to the rural areas. It also create a platform for the PG students to interact with government school students as well as students of Kristu Jayanti School and helped in understanding rural social system of our country.

The Rural Exposure programme was organized by the department of commerce PG and Economics for two days from 11th February, 2020 to 12h February, 2020 at Kannamangla Village, Daddaballapur Taluk, Karnataka with an objective to create a platform for the students to understand and analyze the Rural Social System. During this rural exposure camp, the students were encouraged to organize and carry out programs and events for social awakening and engaging students from both Government School and Kristu Jayanti School in various activities like teaching, sports, and also educating people at rural village about various schemes that included schemes that supports girl child and also financial schemes that would help the farmers to carry on with their agricultural interest without any burden of debt.

“The excitement and exuberant energy had prevailed in all the students and faculty members of Department of Commerce (PG) and Department of Economics, Kristu Jayanti College”. They were all ready to embark their journey for Rural Explosure with the theme “GRAMA SAMVEDITHA” which was held at Bangalore Rural District Kannamangla Village, Daddaballapur Taluk, Karnataka which was led by an elite team of Department of Commerce (PG) and Department of Economics which included, Prof. Madhumalathi, Dr.M.Krishnamoorthi, Dr.Sivasubramanian, and Prof.Pushpa. They actively guided the students for the 2 days of the camp.

The students of II Sem M.Com, M.Com FA & M.A Economics accompanied by a faculty team departed sharply from the Kristu Jayanti Campus in the college bus on 11th February 2020 by 7:30 a.m. for their journey towards Kannamangla Village, Daddaballapur Taluk, Karnataka . Soon the college bus reached Kristu Jayanti School; the students could feel the freshness of the rural areas and nature. The bus reached the Kristu Jayanti School by 10:30 a.m. Students of first batch was divided into two group where few students engaged school children at Kristu Jayanti School and other group headed towards Government School.

Our students began engaging students with teaching and funny activities where children's have learnt many things and enjoyed a lot along with our students. One set of students has gone for planting saplings around village.

Our students organized and conducted various sports activities and games for school children at 2.00 p.m. The students from Kristu Jayanti College and school children have taken active participation and involvement in all sport activities and games till 4:30 p.m.

By 5.00 p.m. our kitchen Team served Tea with Bajji to all students and faculty members. By 5.30 p.m. our students were taken to village to conduct a skit about various schemes. Our students had good interaction with village people and enjoyed beautiful nature and cool breeze in the evening. The students returned to Kristu Jayanti School around 8 p.m. and got freshen up and had dinner. After which students enjoyed dancing and had some good time.

The second day started at 6.00 am with a wakeup call from a team of our faculty members. Students and Faculty went for a morning walk and enjoyed the clean breeze and nature. After coming from morning walk, breakfast was served to our college students at 8.30 a.m. From 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Our cultural team performed super energetic dance performance in both schools. Our faculty team along with coordinator organized a formal program to felicitate the school officials and students with a gift. The delegates shared their views and experiences with our college students. We also offered chocolates to school children. Finally the Vote of Thanks proposed by one of our student coordinators. By 2 p.m. we reached Kristu Jayanti College

Feedback

The students enjoyed every moment at the school and the village. Our students have said that the school children have taken active participation and involvement in all the sports activities and games. The school children were very happy and glad while playing games and sports activities with our college students. Our students had thrilling and different experiences while organizing cultural events for the village people and interacting with village people.

The rural camp which was organized by Department of Commerce and Economics, Kristu Jayanti College provided an opportunity to the students to gain practical skills and to be exposed to rural areas. 88 students and 7 faculty members explored the village Doddahullur on 7th and 8th of February 2019. The students were divided into several committees like survey committee, food committee, and sports committee etc. to look after different aspects of the rural camp. The students conducted activities like games and life skill classes for the children of Government High School. The students who went for survey got the details of socio- economic conditions of the villagers and concluded that the value of land in village has increased considerably leading to better standard of living of the village people but still poverty prevails. In the evening, cultural programs were organized at the temple where the villagers also participated along with Jayantians in dancing and singing. Second day during valediction Dr. Muthu Kumar, Dr. Murugesan, Prof. Anupama George, etc. felicitated the Sarpanch of Doddahullur, Head Mistress of Government High School and Panchayat member of the village.
