Department Magazine

The Department of History organized a program along with the political science department to release the magazines named “Scrolls”. The main objective of the program was to showcase the historical works of the scholars. The magazine focuses on articles, poems, and drawings from the entire Social Science department. Every year different themes will be given to the students to inculcate their creativity by using this opportunity. We have received a total of 31 articles and 28 articles got selected to publish in the Scrolls magazine. Miss Laya from PSSO 2nd year, provided the prelude and Miss Priyadharshini from PSEC 2nd year welcomed the gathering. Mr. Lohith Chapagain from HEP 3rd year summarized the annual report of the History department, and Miss Ayeishaani Yadav from HEP 3rd year summarized the annual report of Political Science.

After that, Fr. Deepu Joy, Dr. Gopakumar, Dean Faculty of Humanities, along with Prof Ramya Assistant Professor in History, Head of the Department, and Dr. Kaveri Swami Coordinator, Social Science, and Languages released the magazines. Fr. Deepu Joy addressed the young scholars and appreciated those who had written scripts for the magazines and followed by Dr. Gopakumar wished the students about the activities done so far by the History department. At the end of the session, Fr. Deepu Joy issued the History Club and Political Science certificates to the students. The session ended with a vote of thanks by Amu Kumari from HSPS’s 2nd year.

Department Magazine
The Department of History, continuing its efforts to give its students an opportunity to research, write and train students as editors and designers of magazines started work towards materializing Scrolls Vo. 2 from the month of December 2019. 58 students had submitted articles, poems, sketches and photographs. The theme adopted for the second edition was “Unearthing Historical Secrets”, whereby students were encouraged to visit various places of historical importance and research on innumerable personalities, archaeological remains, incidents and events from the past that have not received much attention in mainstream historical writings.

Fr Josekutty P.D, Principal delivered presidential address and released the magazine. The programme was also graced by the Dr Gopakumar A.V. Faculty, Dean of Humanities. Prof Ramya B, Head, Department of History welcomed the dignitaries and the students to the august gathering. A report on the various events and activities organized by the Department and the History Club was presented by Ms Shehnaz Nimasow and Mr. Dheeraj Chandra B U, Students Secretaries, History Club.

In an attempt to give its students an exposure to write and express their ideas, the Department of History planned to work on a magazine. The work commenced in the month of December 2018. Over 35 students submitted articles, poems, sketches etc. The theme followed for the first edition was “Unearthing Historical Narratives” and the magazine was named “Scrolls”. A body of student editors was constituted supported by a faculty editor. The ulterior agenda was also to train students as editors and designers of magazines.

The magazine release programme was graced by the Principal, Rev Fr. Josekutty P.D and the Dean of Humanities, Dr Gopakumar A.V. The session started with a prayer song by the department choir. Prof Ramya B. Head of the Department of History welcomed the dignitaries and the students to the august gathering. A report on the History Club was read out by Mr Johns George Thampy, Students Secretary, History Club. The official releasing of the magazine was done by Fr Josekutty P.D, who delivered his presidential address after that. Dr Gopakumar gave out his remarks on the magazine and complimented the department on bringing out Scrolls. The programme also saw the distribution of trophies and certificates to the winners of the various club competitions and events organized by it throughout the academic year. The programme came to an end with the offering of a Vote of Thanks by Prof Hemango Akshay Hiwale.
