Most of the candidates join postgraduate courses with an intention to start a career as a teacher. It has become an attractive option due to social respect the profession commands. For recruitment as faculty in universities/colleges/institutions, the candidates are required to clear NET (National Eligibility Test)/SET (State Eligibility Test). NET will be conducted by the UGC once in a year i.e. in the month of November every year. The Centre trains the young aspirants to enhance their teaching and research aptitude.

Orientation of UGC NET Management for MBA Students
Date: 25 August 2025
The University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET/JRF), as explained by Dr. Vidhya, is a national-level examination conducted by the National Testing Agency. It is designed to determine the eligibility of candidates aspiring to become assistant professors, pursue doctoral research, or secure the Junior Research Fellowship. This makes it one of the most important exams for those aiming to build a career in academics or research in India.
The exam is structured into three levels based on the aspirations of the candidates. The NET PhD pathway is for those who wish to join a university’s doctoral research programme. The NET AP track is for aspirants who aim to become lecturers or professors in higher education institutions. Meanwhile, the NET JRF option is for candidates who want to take up research while receiving financial support through a fellowship. The UGC NET exam consists of two main papers. Paper 1 focuses on teaching and research aptitude and is common for all candidates across different streams. It carries 100 marks with 50 multiple-choice questions to be completed in one hour. Paper 2, on the other hand, is subject-specific, allowing candidates to be tested in their chosen discipline. This paper also carries 100 marks with 50 multiple-choice questions, but the duration is two hours, making it more comprehensive. Registration for each paper requires a fee of Rs.1200.
Recognising the importance of proper preparation, Kristu Jayanti deemed to be University has introduced a dedicated NET training programme. The aim of this programme is to give students the confidence and clarity needed to succeed in the examination by blending concept learning with hands-on practice.
Each training session lasts for one hour. Of this, fifteen minutes are devoted to learning and revising the concepts required for the exam, while the remaining forty-five minutes are focused on solving practice papers. This approach ensures that students not only understand the material but also develop the problem-solving speed and accuracy needed to perform well in the actual test.
