Workshop on Digital Accessibility Using Game-Based Learning

The Department of Computer Science, School of Computational and Physical Sciences, Kristu Jayanti University (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru, organized a Workshop on Digital Accessibility Using Game-Based Learning for Final Year BCA section students on 19 December 2025. The session was conducted at 1:40 PM in the M4 & M5 Laboratories, Science Block. The workshop was led by Mr. Parthasarathy P D, Product Accessibility Expert, Salesforce India Pvt. Ltd., Bengaluru, who shared valuable industry perspectives on the importance of digital accessibility and inclusive design.

Through engaging discussions and interactive game-based learning methods, the resource person introduced students to key accessibility principles and real-world challenges in developing inclusive digital products. The workshop emphasized the role of accessibility in modern software development and encouraged students to adopt accessibility-first approaches in their academic and professional projects. The program successfully enhanced students’ awareness of digital inclusion while providing a platform for experiential learning and industry interaction. The workshop was well-received and proved to be both informative and inspiring for the participants.


Orientation Programme on Cyber Security Essentials
Date: 10 December 2025
An orientation programme on Cyber Security Essentials was conducted on 10 December 2025 from 2.00 PM to 4.00 PM for the II Semester BCA Cyber Security students. A total of 200 students benefited from the session. The programme was handled by Mr. Joseph Sibychen, in collaboration with NIIT Foundation.

The session aimed to create awareness about the growing importance of digital safety in today’s technology-driven environment. The resource person introduced students to fundamental concepts of cyber security and highlighted the need to protect personal and professional information from online threats.

Participants were briefed on various cyber risks such as phishing, malware, hacking, and identity theft, along with the core principles of cyber security—confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The trainer emphasized safe online practices, including the use of strong passwords, recognizing suspicious links, and being cautious on social media and during online transactions.

The programme also covered essential protection tools such as antivirus software, firewalls, and two-factor authentication. Real-life case studies of cybercrimes were discussed to help students understand the seriousness of cyber threats. In addition, an overview of cyber laws and ethical responsibilities was provided.

The session concluded with an interactive discussion, where students actively participated and clarified their doubts. The orientation proved to be highly informative, equipping students with valuable knowledge to stay secure in the digital world.


NASSCOM Future Skill Briefing

The Department of Computer Science, School of Computational and Physical Sciences, Kristu Jayanti University, in association with NASSCOM FutureSkills Prime, organised a briefing session on 14th August 2025 at the M1 Auditorium, Science Block. The session was facilitated by Mr. Harsha S, Senior Associate – Future Skill Prime (Academia & Government Relations), IT-ITeS Sector Skills Council, NASSCOM. The programme provided an overview of the FutureSkills Prime initiative, emphasizing the significance of emerging digital technologies, industry-relevant competencies, and continuous skill development for career advancement. The resource person also introduced the Digital Engineering course, which the first-year students will be undertaking, thereby equipping them with foundational knowledge and practical exposure essential for thriving in the evolving IT ecosystem.


Expert Talk on Cyber Hygiene

The Department of Computer Science, School of Computational and Physical Sciences, in collaboration with the NIIT Foundation, organized an Expert Talk on Cyber Hygiene on 4th August 2025. The session was led by Mr. Joseph Sibychen, a certified ethical hacker with over 13 years of experience and expertise in the dark web.

The session began with the statement, “With great power comes great responsibility,” highlighting the critical role of cybersecurity in today’s digital landscape. Mr. Sibychen emphasized the growing opportunities in the cybersecurity domain and encouraged students to approach the field with passion and commitment.

He introduced the NIIT Foundation as a non-profit organization working toward education and social responsibility, and provided a clear understanding of cybersecurity as the practice of protecting systems, networks, devices, and data from unauthorized access or attacks. The core principle of the **CIA triad—Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability was explained as the foundation of information security. The session covered key aspects of cyber hygiene, including the use of strong passwords, two-factor authentication, antivirus, and firewalls to safeguard personal data. Mr. Sibychen also highlighted the importance of NetAcademy training every semester and the value of global certifications in strengthening career prospects in cybersecurity.

Participants were introduced to real-world threats such as phishing, fraud, identity theft, and proxy networks used to conceal identities. The speaker strongly encouraged students to gain practical experience by building their own security testing tools, underlining the significance of hands-on learning in developing cybersecurity expertise.

The expert talk provided students with a solid foundation in cyber hygiene and emphasized the rising demand for skilled professionals in the field. The session inspired participants to adopt responsible practices, pursue global certifications, and explore the dynamic cybersecurity landscape with curiosity and confidence.


Orientation on CCNA-1 Training

The Department of Computer Science, School of Computational and Physical Sciences at Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University), in collaboration with the NIIT Foundation and Cisco Corporate Social Responsibility, organized an orientation session on CCNA-1 Training on 4th August 2025.

The orientation was designed to introduce second-year BCA Cyber Security students and final-year BCA/B.Sc. students to the fundamentals and opportunities offered through Cisco’s globally recognized CCNA certification.

The session was led by Mr. Joseph Sibychen, an experienced Cyber and Cloud Security Instructor from the NIIT Foundation, who brought valuable industry insights to the discussion. He emphasized the importance of CCNA in establishing a strong foundation for careers in networking and cybersecurity, while also outlining the structure of the CCNA-1 training module. Students were introduced to Cisco’s NetAcad platform, which facilitates interactive and hands-on learning.

Mr. Sibychen highlighted the increasing demand for CCNA-certified professionals in today’s competitive job market and encouraged students to remain consistent in practice and continuous upskilling. The session concluded with an engaging Q&A segment, where participants sought clarity on networking roles, certification pathways, and career opportunities in cybersecurity.

Overall, the orientation provided students with clarity on the training process, while also motivating them to pursue industry-recognized certifications that align with their academic and professional aspirations.


Workshop on “Oracle APEX”, Organized by the Department of Computer Science, School of Computational and Physical Sciences, Kristu Jayanti Deemed to be University in Collaboration with Oracle

The Department of Computer Science under the School of Computational and Physical Sciences at Kristu Jayanti deemed to be university, in collaboration with Oracle, organized a one-day workshop titled "Workshop on Oracle APEX" on August 6, 2025. The session was conducted at H2 Auditorium, and was specially designed for the students of General BCA, BCA IoT, BCA Cyber Security, B.Sc. Data Science and B.Sc. AI&ML. The workshop welcomed three distinguished industry experts from Oracle: Mr. Santhosh Kumar – Principal Product Manager, Oracle APEX, Ms. Ankita Beri – Product Manager, Oracle APEX and Mr. Shailu Srivastav – Product Manager, Oracle APEX. The event commenced with a welcome address, emphasizing the importance of industry-academic collaboration and hands-on exposure to real-world technologies. The experts shared insights on Oracle’s suite of tools, with a focus on Oracle APEX (Application Express) – a powerful low-code platform for building scalable web applications.


Nurturing Future innovators in Green and AI Experts
Date: 04 August 2025
Edunet Foundation conducted an energetic session highlighting how AI is used in agriculture, water conservation, wildlife monitoring, and disaster prediction. He introduced machine learning models that help monitor pollution levels and deforestation. Several open-source projects and competitions for social-good applications were presented. Edunet Foundation demonstrated a real-time app developed for rural farmers to predict crop yield using weather and soil data. He encouraged students to pursue interdisciplinary projects that merge AI, IoT, and sustainability. Participants brainstormed ideas like smart energy meters and AI-powered waste segregation. He also spoke about ethical concerns and the importance of fairness and transparency in AI. His interactive approach made students feel empowered to innovate responsibly. The session ended with a call for student participation in open challenges and hackathons. The session provided both theoretical foundations and practical examples. It concluded with a motivational appeal to integrate sustainability into all engineering decisions. A three day bootcamp on IBM Skillsbuild-Cloud Infrastructure
Date: 21 - 23 July 2025
The Department of Computer Science (UG) successfully organized a three-day boot camp on "IBM SkillsBuild – Cloud Infrastructure" from 21st to 23rd July 2025 for second-year BCA Cyber Security and BCA Data Analytics students. The event began with an inaugural address by the Sevuga Pandian sir (Head of the Department computer science (UG)), followed by insightful sessions by the resource person, Mr. Thoufiq Z, a Data Science and AI Master Trainer from Edunet Foundation, Bengaluru. Over the course of the boot camp, students gained hands-on experience in AI and cloud computing. On the second day, participants were provided with IBM Cloud accounts valid for 395 days and worked on creating a predictive model using the Iris Flower dataset. The final day culminated with the students developing a fully functional chatbot, showcasing their learning and practical skills. This boot camp offered an excellent platform for students to enhance their knowledge and hands-on expertise in emerging technologies. The entire process aims to prepare students for the job market and facilitate smooth transitions from academia to employment.


Snowflake Platform Training
Date: 11 July 2025
The one-day training session on the Snowflake platform commenced with an inaugural address by Dr. Calistus Jude, Dean, Faculty of Sciences, followed by a special address from Mr. Rajesh Nambiar, Academy Program Growth and Advocacy Lead at Snowflake. The session was graced by the presence of Prof. Sevuga Pandian, Head, Department of Computer Science (UG), who shared the dais during the inaugural ceremony. The technical training, led by Mr. Vasu and Ms. Parvathi, offered students an in-depth understanding of Snowflake’s architecture and its core functionalities. Participants were introduced to the platform's three-tier structure comprising the data storage layer, compute warehouses, and the cloud services layer. The session was divided into nine well-structured modules covering essential topics such as the Snowflake user interface, use of notebooks with SQL and Python, identity and access management, database object hierarchy, data types, and data loading methods. Students also explored virtual warehouse scaling, the Snowflake Marketplace, metadata querying, and the powerful time travel feature. Additionally, the training covered working with semi-structured (e.g., JSON, XML) and unstructured data (e.g., images, videos), and concluded with an engaging introduction to Snowflake’s Cortex AI and Copilot features. This hands-on training enriched students’ practical knowledge in SQL and Python and offered valuable exposure to modern cloud-based data platforms. Briefing Session on NASSCOM Future Skills Prime

The Department of Computer Science (UG) organized a briefing session on NASSCOM Future Skills Prime. The session was attended by all first-year BCA students and was centered on introducing them to available academic pathways and industry-relevant platforms such as NASSCOM Future Skills Prime.

The briefing session was conducted by Mr. Harsha S, Senior Associate – Future Skills Prime, Academia and Government Relations, IT-ITeS Sector Skill Council. He provided valuable insights into the Future Skills Prime platform, explaining how students can leverage it for skill development, certifications, and career readiness in emerging technology domains. Mr. Harsha elaborated on the role of digital platforms in enhancing employability, the alignment of skill-based learning with academic curricula, and the importance of being industry-ready in today’s competitive environment.

The session concluded with an interactive Q & A where students actively participated, gaining clarity on how to register and benefit from the platform. The talk proved to be informative and motivating, equipping students with the knowledge to take the first step towards their professional development in the digital economy.


Vignanamanthan - an interactive session with visionary scientists

The Department of Computer Science (UG) at Kristu Jayanti College, Bengaluru, organized Vignanamanthan – an interactive session with visionary scientists. The chief guest, Ms. Anuradha T K, a distinguished scientist and former director of the SATCOM Program at ISRO, shared her insights on space exploration, rocket technology, and India's achievements in space. She explained important topics like remote sensing, satellite communication, and meteorology. She also spoke about ISRO’s major missions, including Chandrayaan, Mangalyaan, and the PSLV-C37 launch. The session helped students understand the challenges and innovations in space technology and India’s growing role in global space research.


Women in Tech Conclave on “Role of Women in Viksit Bharat 2047”

The Department of Computer Science (UG) at Kristu Jayanti College hosted the Women in Tech Conclave in celebration of International Women’s Day on 8th March 2025 at 9:30 AM. The event took place at the M3 Audi, 3rd Floor, Main Block, Kristu Jayanti College. The inauguration was done by Rev. Fr. Dr. Augustine George, Principal of Kristu Jayanti College. Dr. Meenakshi D’Souza, President of ACM India and Professor & Head of the Department of Computer Science at IIIT Bangalore, was the Chief Guest. She officially launched the session and delivered an insightful talk on the impact of women in shaping a Viksit Bharat, emphasizing their contributions to technology and innovation through the lens of the Turing Award. In addition to the talk, a panel discussion was held featuring distinguished women leaders from the tech industry. The discussion focused on the challenges and opportunities for women in technology and explored ways to foster a more inclusive and innovative tech ecosystem.


Skill-a-thon 2025: Unleashing Talent at Kristu Jayanti College
Date: 09 to 11 January, 2025
The Department of Computer Science (UG) at Kristu Jayanti College hosted Skill-a-thon 2025 from January 9 to January 11, 2025, an exciting and inclusive event organized by the Kristu Jayanti Developer’s Group (KJDG). Designed to test and elevate participants' abilities, the event welcomed students from all departments and courses to compete in a dynamic series of skill-focused challenges.

The competition spanned three days, featuring five engaging rounds, each tailored to assess aptitude, critical thinking, IT management, and leadership capabilities. The event commenced with an Aptitude Test on the first day, evaluating participants’ problem-solving and IT management skills. This was followed by a Team Debate, where contestants showcased their analytical and persuasive abilities on challenging topics.

On the second day, the top 10 candidates advanced to the Managerial Interview round, which tested their strategic thinking and decision-making skills, simulating real-world IT management scenarios. The final day saw the top four participants delivering innovative Product Pitches, presenting creative solutions and demonstrating entrepreneurial acumen. The event culminated in an intense Individual Debate between the top two contenders, competing for the prestigious title of “Ultimate CEO.”

The title of “Ultimate CEO” was awarded to Mihir Thakkar (IV BCA) for his exceptional performance throughout the competition. Dhruv Soin (II BSc DS) secured the runner-up position, showcasing remarkable potential and skills.

Skill-a-thon 2025 highlighted the talent, creativity, and critical thinking of Kristu Jayanti College students, reaffirming the college’s commitment to fostering excellence and innovation among its diverse student community.

Notable innovations such as the Dhatri Patra Foundation, an NGO founded by students, and the Campus Market App, which boosted student entrepreneurship, were showcased. The incubation center’s support for student startups, with alumni now running successful businesses, was also recognized. Other projects mentioned included the KJC Sarva Vikas initiative, which connects farmers to campus, and the Smart Interview Manager, which streamlined the admission process. Contributions such as the Kristu Jayanti Security Check Visitors Management System and the Well-being Centre were also celebrated. The institution’s achievement of ranking 60th in the 2024 NIRF rankings was highlighted as a testament to its commitment to innovation and academic excellence. The seminar concluded by encouraging students to leverage the incubation center's resources to develop entrepreneurial skills and transform their ideas into successful ventures.

Ltd., Bengalurufor the first Semester and Third Semester BCA Cloud Computing students provided a thorough exploration of how AI, Machine Learning and Cloud Computing intersect. The resource person began by defining key concepts, tracing the evolution of AI and ML and emphasizing the importance of data in driving successful AI applications. Students learned about the fundamentals of cloud computing, including different service types and essential security considerations that organizations must address. The session further examined the benefits of utilizing cloud services for AI/ML, highlighting scalability, cost-effectiveness, and access to powerful tools and platforms like AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud. Real-world case studies showcased successful implementations across various industries, providing practical insights for attendees. The discussion concluded with an exploration of future trends and emerging technologies such as quantum computing and edge computing and their potential impact on Industry 4.0, stressing the importance of ethical considerations in AI/ML applications.


Tech Talk on “Current Trends in Cyber Security” in observance of Cyber Security Awareness Month

On 14th October 2024, the Department of Computer Science (UG) at Kristu Jayanti College organized an insightful tech talk titled “Current Trends in Cyber Security,” in line with the ongoing observance of Cyber Security Awareness Month. The event featured Mr. Akash Saksena, Manager of Cyber Security & IoT Security at Capgemini, as the distinguished resource person.

In his address, Mr. Saksena highlighted the rapidly evolving Internet of Things (IoT) landscape and its significant implications for cybersecurity. He stressed how IoT is revolutionizing industries such as healthcare, manufacturing, transportation, and smart cities by connecting devices, improving operational efficiency, and streamlining processes. However, this interconnectedness also increases the risk of cyberattacks, expanding the attack surface and making devices more vulnerable.

Mr. Saksena elaborated on critical IoT security elements, including device authentication, data management, secure communication, and network scalability. He pointed out that technologies like SCADA, which are integral to industrial processes, are increasingly becoming targets for cyber threats. He also noted that RFID technology, commonly used in supply chain tracking, is vulnerable to specific attacks if not adequately secured.

The session further delved into common IoT security threats, such as malware (e.g., Mirai and VPNFilter) exploiting weak passwords and outdated software, as well as attacks like man-in-the-middle, DDoS, ransomware, and spoofing. Notorious incidents like the Mirai botnet and Stuxnet were discussed to highlight the consequences of IoT vulnerabilities on a global scale.

To address these challenges, Mr. Saksena emphasized the need for enhanced security strategies, such as implementing strong authentication protocols, software updates, network segmentation, data encryption, and continuous system monitoring. He also mentioned the emerging role of AI and machine learning in providing real-time threat detection and response capabilities, which will be crucial in the future of IoT security.

The talk concluded with an interactive Q&A session, where students and faculty engaged in discussions on emerging IoT security trends and best practices for mitigating threats. The event offered valuable insights into the pressing need for advancing IoT security standards and fostering collaboration within the industry as IoT adoption continues to grow.


Cyber Suraksha: Cyber Awareness Program on Cybersecurity Fundamentals and Emerging Threats

The Department of Computer Science, in collaboration with the NIIT Foundation -"Cyber Suraksha," an initiative by Cisco, hosted a focused Cyber Awareness Program Led by cybersecurity expert Mr. Joseph Sibychen, the session provided an in-depth exploration of key cybersecurity topics, including the differentiation between internal and external threats, cyber warfare, and methods for analyzing cyber attacks and identifying vulnerabilities. The program covered advanced threats such as Wi-Fi password tracking, phishing, SEO poisoning, and blended attacks, along with actionable defense strategies and the importance of multi-factor authentication. The session also introduced participants to essential cybersecurity tools and platforms, including bug bounty programs and security-focused operating systems. The event, which began with a presidential address by Dr. Sasikumar V R, concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Sevuga Pandian, expressing gratitude to all involved and reinforcing the mission of creating a safer digital environment through the Cyber Suraksha Initiative.


Cyber Smart 2024, A Seminar on Cyber Security and Ethical Hacking

The Department of Computer Science, in collaboration with Techbyheart, recently hosted CyberSmart 2024, an event focused on the critical importance of cybersecurity in today's digital age. The event began with an official inauguration by the esteemed chief guests, Smt. Malashree M V, IRS, and Mr. Sreenath Gopinath, both of whom delivered powerful keynote speeches. Their presentations emphasized the growing significance of cybersecurity and the ever-evolving landscape of digital threats.

Following the inauguration, guest lecturers Mohammed Shafeek and Mohammed Rasel conducted an engaging and insightful session on the fundamentals of cybersecurity and ethical hacking. Their in-depth session provided attendees with a comprehensive overview of current cyber threats and emerging trends, supported by a series of live demonstrations that vividly showcased the real-world impact of cyberattacks.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks, acknowledging the efforts of all participants and organizers. IBM Student Skill workshop on "Use of Generative AI for Software Development"

The Department of Computer Science, in collaboration with IBM, recently hosted an event titled "The Use of Generative AI in Software Development." The event featured insightful presentations by Mr. Manjunath Chandrashekhar, Student Developer Ecosystem Program Manager at IBM, and Ms. Pujitha G, Senior Application Developer at IBM. The session began with a warm welcome speech by Dr. Kalaiselvi K., followed by a presidential address from Dr. Sevuga Pandian, who emphasized the increasing impact of AI on software development. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. SasiKumar V R. Ms. Pujitha shared her career journey at IBM, providing valuable insights into the future job market, the importance of reskilling, and essential core competencies. Together with Mr. Manjunath, she introduced the IBM SkillsBuild program, highlighting its initiatives and benefits. They also covered the fundamentals of Generative AI, demonstrating Watson X, IBM's large language model, and its application in software development. Students were given access to the course "Use of Generative AI for Software Development," further deepening their understanding of AI's role in the industry. The event was well-received, offering students crucial insights into AI technologies and their practical applications in software development.


Bootcamp on Introduction to Process Mining

A virtual bootcamp was organized by Qlik, a leading company in data analytics and business intelligence, for the students of BCA Data Analytics and BSc Data Science. The event saw participation from over 240 students, primarily from the 2nd and 3rd years of their respective programs.The session began with a warm welcome from Dr. Sevuga Pandiyan, the Head of the Department. He expressed his appreciation for Qlik’s initiative to conduct the bootcamp and encouraged students to take full advantage of the opportunity to learn from industry experts.

The bootcamp was conducted by Mr. Manikant Roy, a distinguished professional from Qlik. He started by introducing himself and giving a brief overview of Qlik as a company. Mr. Roy elaborated on Qlik’s role in the data analytics industry, emphasizing its importance in driving business decisions through data-driven insights. He provided insights into the various tools and products offered by Qlik, with a particular focus on Qlik Sense, a powerful data visualization and analytics tool.

Following the introduction, Mr. Roy guided the students through a hands-on session using Qlik Sense. He demonstrated how to use the tool effectively by walking the students through a practical example. The session was interactive, with students following along and applying the concepts in real-time. Mr. Roy’s approach made it easy for students to grasp the functionalities of Qlik Sense, from data loading to creating insightful visualizations.

The session concluded with a Q&A segment, where Mr. Roy addressed several questions from the students. The queries ranged from technical aspects of Qlik Sense to career advice in the field of data analytics. Mr. Roy provided clear and insightful answers, further enriching the learning experience for the students.

The Qlik bootcamp was a valuable learning experience for the students, providing them with practical knowledge and hands-on experience with Qlik Sense. Workshop on Process Mining Using Executing Management System (EMS)

In a comprehensive 3 hours training led by Ms.Angelo Sophia, participants were immersed in the realm of Applied Process Mining using Celonis EMS. The training spanned three days, offering a structured progression of learning. Initially, participants were introduced to the core concepts of Process Mining, which included understanding its basics, the role of Celonis EMS, and insights into addressing company challenges and deriving business insights. The second day deepened their knowledge by delving into EMS functionalities, encompassing event logs, data pipeline elements, data input methods, and data model creation. The final day encapsulated practicality as participants were tasked with applying their acquired knowledge to create a Data Model and Analysis Sheet based on an advanced case study. Through hands-on experience, participants not only grasped the essence of Process Mining but also gained a tangible understanding of how Celonis EMS can be harnessed for effective process analysis and optimization. This training not only equips participants with valuable skills but also positions them for the Celonis Rising Star Technical Certification, offering global recognition and opportunities in Process Mining-focused roles within multinational corporations.
