Roleplay on Professional Ethics

Role plays enables students to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios, fostering skill development, decision-making practice, and empathy, while also encouraging reflection and collaboration.

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance conducted a role play titled Professional Ethics on 03/08/2023 for III BCOM ACCA students. The participants engaged in simulated situations requiring conflict resolution related to ethical concerns, fostering the ability to mediate, compromise, and seek resolution in a professional and ethical manner.

The roleplay stimulated critical discussions on the ethical principles at play, fostering reflection on alternative actions and the application of ethical frameworks. By encouraging role reversal, students gained a multi-faceted perspective on the challenges of ethical decision-making. The activity culminated in written reflections where students articulated their insights, demonstrating a deeper understanding of professional ethics and a heightened awareness of the complexities they may encounter in their future careers.

Orientation on “Career Planning and the Way Forward”

Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organised orientation programme on “Career Planning and the Way Forward” on 18th May 2022 in Room No B308, Admin Block for the second and third year B.Com CMA aspirants. Mr.Uttam Pai, CMA,CPA addressed the students. Ms.Honey Rai, General Manager, Human Resources- Miles Education and Ms. Rhea Mariam Zenu, Manager- Academics and Student Relations also addressed the students

The main objectives of the programme was to make the students aware of the importance of clearing CMA exams pursuing graduation. The lecture threw light on the benefits of completing the CMA exams before graduation. Mr.Uttam Pai discussed with the CMA aspirants the methods to make efficient use of the study material provided, the study pattern of students and tips on exam preparation. The speaker motivated the students by sharing his own experience in exam preparation. Mr.Pai also mentioned the importance of being familiar with all the current affairs of the business world and being confident holistic individuals who are able to convince employers of their ability to perform the work required by them.

The session concluded with Q & A wherein Mr.Uttam Pai, the resource person, clarified all the queries raised by the students

Student Development Programme

The National Education Policy (NEP)-2020 envisions an education system rooted in Indian ethos that contributes directly to transforming India sustainably into an equitable and vibrant knowledge society by providing high quality education to all and thereby, making India a global knowledge superpower. In order to orient the students on the intricacies of the NEP curriculum, a session was conducted for the 2021 Batch students. The session was addressed by the Dean, Faculty of Commerce and Management, Dr. Aloysius Edward J. During the session, the speaker threw light on the multiple exit points, credit systems, holistic purview of NEP and the various components such of the curriculum such as DSC, DSE, VOC, OE, SEC were touched upon.

The session ended with a Q & A. It was an informative and enriching session.

Orientation Programme Navigation through Specialization

The Department of Professional Accounting & Finance was conducted an orientation Program on “Navigation through Specialization” for the 2nd year B.Com Professional Students in continuation of the Research Project and course specialization. The session commenced with a silent prayer. Dr. Annie Stephen emphasized on how important the research project is to enrich the student’s corporate exposure and help them get a clear picture on how to move ahead on the same. Dr. J. Poornima highlighted on all the important aspects, key points and resource availability of each and every specialization. She put a light on the fact of how important it is to stick with the specialization and choose a related topic. At the end of the session the students were able to understand their Research project and specialization in detailed manner. The Session was concluded with a Q&A session to clarify the student’s queries regarding to the specializations and their procedure.

Guest Lecture on – “CAREER PROSPECTS”
The Chartered Accountancy qualification opens the door to a vast range of exciting career opportunities, in every sector of business and finance, both in India and internationally. Hence, in order to enlighten the students on the importance of Chartered Accountancy course and the future prospects, an expert lecture was organised, Mr.Georgy Mathew FCA, Senior Partner, Varma & Varma Chartered Accountants, Bengaluru was invited as the resource person.

The chief guest addressed the students on the importance of the course, and the pattern of the professional examinations. He also stated that the Chartered Accountants were in constant demand both in India and abroad, being recognised for their technical competence, professional standards and veracity. Becoming a Chartered Accountant combines innovative education with mentored work experience, to produce accountants who possess a greater ability to analyse and interpret business problems and develop dynamic solutions. He highlighted that perhaps that’s why Chartered Accountants have the edge over their counterparts: they rise further and faster into more diverse and important roles in organisations.

The resource person concluded by highlighting that no other career offers the mobility that a Chartered Accountancy qualification does. They take on the role of a business advisor, who makes high-level strategic decisions, aimed at driving business, improving profit margins and increasing market share for their clients / employers. Many Chartered Accountants also use their expertise to form their own businesses, becoming highly successful entrepreneurs.

Career Enhancement Prorgamme - Personal Interview

The hallmark of a Personal Interview is the one to one or direct interaction between the candidate and the interviewer. Therefore, it is important that the students are well versed with the technicalities of the round and prepare themselves well for the HR Round / Personal Interview Round. The Personal Interview round can be a daunting task especially we one attends the interview unprepared. A session was conducted for the students to share tips for attending interviews. The session also included the most frequently asked questions at Interviews and the ways to effectively answer the questions. Some of the tips shared with the students included wearing formal attire, being well groomed, wearing a smile, positive body language, research about the company and the role offered and the skills essential to be a right role fit. A right mind set, eye contact, body language, confidence levels, attitude and willingness to adapt to the corporate culture are some of the traits looked for in candidates applying for interviews. To help students prepare for the questions asked during interviews, the speaker shares the FAQs at interviews and the best ways in which one could answer the questions with confidence and clarity of thought. Few of the FAQs that were discussed are : Tell us about yourself, What are your strengths and weaknesses, Where do you see yourself in 5 years, Have you held any leadership positions in the past, Why should we hire you, What re your future plans, Can you work under pressure and Do you have any questions

Although there are no right or wrong answers, an answer that conveys something about an individual that doesn’t match the Interviewers expectations can lead to an adverse situation. Therefore it is essential that the students rehearse and prepare themselves to face the round.

Career Enhancement Prorgamme - Group Discussion

GD is a discussion that tests the candidate's skills, such as leadership skills, communication skills, social skills and behavior, politeness, teamwork, listening ability, General awareness, confidence, problem-solving skills, etc.

Dr. Lourdunathan F. The Group Discussion is generally the next level after the entrance exam to pursue a professional degree. In the case of recruitments, Group Discussion can be the starting or at the end, depending on different companies or organizations.

It is not fixed that the group discussion is always performed around the table. People can sit in any arrangement, but everyone should be able to see every face. It is not only the usual discussion, but it is also a discussion with knowledge and skill.

It is a well-known fact that GD (Group Discussion) round are difficult to clear and the percentage of number of students who cleared GD is considerably low and the dropout rate keeps increasing and many students get demotivated and they don’t try to learn from their mistake. In this regard, a Goup Discussion session was conducted by the Department for students of IV semester BCOM. The main objective of the session was to enlighten the students on the importance of GD in interview and share tips on clearing Group discussion.

Career Enhancement Programme

Department of Professional Accounting and Finance, Kristu Jayanti College (Autonomous), organized a Career enhancement programme on 9th February 2022 for the second year B.Com students. Students require skills and knowledge in the business sector to help them position themselves for a successful career. To answer this demand a session was organized to enhance the confidence of the students to face the placement process of various companies. Dr.Reenu Mohan, Assistant Professor, Department of Professional Accounting and finance explained the selection procedures in corporate and the various types of rounds involved. She threw light on skills sought by employers in the selection procedure. Dr. Reenu gave insights about how to prepare oneself for group discussion, aptitude tests and pre interview. The students found the session very helpful and motivating as their queries were resolved at the end of the session.

Placement Orientation and Training Program

The Placement season unwraps a feeling of anxiety and fear among those aspiring to get placed. The need to be adequately prepared for the unknown and brace up to match the expectations of the industry is a mandate. It is with this intention that the department of Professional Accounting and Finance organized a session on Placement Orientation and Training Programme. The resource person for the session was Prof. Sen B.Mathew , Director of CECR , Kristu Jayanti college who addressed the students and explained the process of Placements. He began the session by the introduction of CECR (Centre for Employability and Corporate relations) as a unit that facilitates and nurtures the aspirations of the candidates. He emphasized on a Sell-Match-Leadership concept and students were encouraged to empower themselves by creating their own brand. In an era of unmatched competition, the need for skilling, up skilling and reskilling is undebatable. Tips on how to prepare and present oneself at interviews were also shared at the session.

The 5C’s that stand for Choice, Collaboration, Communication, Critical thinking and Creative thinking were also discussed. Insights on the Do’s and Don’ts in personnel interviews, Resume building and Group Discussions were shared in a nutshell. The session was lively and interactive.

Project Orientation - II

Research project is obviously a challenging and rewarding experience, it is an opportunity that helps the students to pursue an in-depth original study about the topic which interests the student. Helps them experience leadership and application of classroom knowledge in a real time environment.

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organized the Project Orientation-II on 15th February 2022 for Second Year B.Com students. Dr. J. Poornima commenced the session by giving an overview of the previous discussion followed by a doubt solving session. The resource person communicated the instructions that had to be followed by students in every step of the Research. The students were explained on how to select the research topic and organisation based on their specialisations and synopsis preparation, followed by the projection of formats of the contents of the Research project and the chapters that had to be submitted by the students in the course of the project under the guidance of the Faculty guide.

The session was concluded by delivering a complete idea of the Research Project followed by a Q&A session to clarify the student’s queries regarding the various aspects of the Research Project.

Reorientation on Jayantian Code of Conduct and Online Etiquette

The department of Professional Accounting and finance organized reorientation session on Jayantian code of conduct and online class etiquettes for first years, second years and third years students on 24th January 2022. The students were oriented by the faculties towards academic excellence, student behavior and culture, leave application procedure, extra curricular activities during this semester and online certification courses .The session also included guidelines about netiquettes to be followed during online classes and guest lectures. The session was helpful in giving the students a right start for the academic year and providing a clarity on the on the Jayantian culture and values.The sessions were conducted by the following faculties:

Workshop on Preparing for Work Life
Date: 20 November 2021
The present world is constantly changing and how each individual can stand unique with their communication and intellectual ability. In this regard, a workshop was organized on “Preparing for Work life” was found apt and hence this programme was organised for the I semester students of the Department.

Mr. Ashin Paul, the resource person addressed the students and spoke about the importance of knowing oneself and how to cope up with failure and pursue their dreams with determination. He also emphasized on the communication skills and some key techniques on how to build their communication skills. The resource person also spoke on the evolution of the workforce and the skills sets required for the present age. He emphasized on acquiring interpersonal discipline, learning new things each day, experimenting new things and learning how to communicate effectively. The session was interactive and useful.

NEP 2020 - Curriculum Framework
Date: 15th November, 2021
Dr. Aloysius Edward, Dean of Commerce and Management explained the importance and role of National education policy in revamping of Higher Education. He narrated an inspirational story of a carpenter and stated that the students are the architects of their life, hence they need to decide their destiny by themselves. He elaborated on the curriculum framework of NEP-2020 and discussed the entry and exit policies. He discussed the semester wise credit schemes of the BCom programme. The session concluded with vote of thanks by Assistant Prof. Litty M.

Reorientation on Jayantian Culture and Code of Conduct

A re-orientation session was organized for the first-year students of the Department of Professional Accounting and Finance on 15th November 2021. The session began with prayer song by the department choir. Dr.Annie Stephen, Head of the Department welcomed the students to the campus and introduced the faculties and facilities of the department. She explained the rules regarding campus discipline, class behaviour and dress code to be followed by the students. The students were informed about attendance and leave policies, scholarship schemes, various centres and committees of the college.

Orientation on CA Foundation Course

The professional courses such as CA/CS have been one of the most sought after career options for students, specifically in the Finance domain. On one hand, these professional courses are considered to be the most prestigious courses and on the other hand, the professional courses aren’t a cake walk either. There has been a tectonic shift in what the corporates and recruiters are looking for and hence a pressing need for our students to realize and align themselves with the paradigm shift was found to be the need of the hour.

It becomes imperative therefore to orient the students about the course and the way forward. The department of Professional Accounting and Finance conducted an orientation program for the students highlighting the future prospects of the course and the importance of the course in building competence and growth.

Project orientation
Date: 07/02/2021
Research Project is important for the students to nurture conceptual, analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills. Interns not only gain technical knowledge within the industry of their choice, but they also learn how to interact with professionals in a workplace setting, and develop essential soft skills like time management, organization, adaptability, problem-solving and teamwork.

Department of Professional Accounting and Finance was organized the Project orientation on 7th February 2022 for Second Year B.Com students. The orientation program was facilitated by Dr. J.Poornima Assistant Professor, Department of Professional Accounting and Finance. Participants were oriented about the provision & criteria of Research Project, steps of Project Report writing, Pre & Post preparation and activities, Marks distribution for each individual part of the Research Project, as well as the time schedule provided for its completion. The session concluded with an open discussion wherein the queries raised by the students were clarified.

Orientation on SDG 1
Date: 14 February 2024
The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance and the UNAI Hub for SDG 1 organized an Orientation session for the second-year students on 14th February 2024. The session underscored the role of education, innovation, and sustainable practices in achieving the SDGs and building a more resilient future. The students drew inspiration to actively participate in efforts to achieve the SDGs and create a better future for all. Students staged a mime performance, depicting ways of playing their part in the national mission. The mime also provided information about the various schemes available for the upliftment of the underprivileged sections of the society.

Dr.Reenu Mohan, the co-ordinator for UNAI Student club, emphasized on the role each one had to play in shaping a better world for future generations. She urged the audience to extend help to the students from economically backward sections in the campus to ensure they get equal opportunities of growth and development. The event marked a significant step towards promoting awareness and action towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Orientation Session on Preparing for ACCA

To build confidence among students and to succeed in the Professional Accountant certification such as ACCA, a session was organised by the Department of Professional Accounting & Finance on Preparing for ACCA for the first year ACCA students on 17/01/2024. The resource person for the session was Dr.K.Kiran Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Professional Accounting and Finance, Kristu Jayanti College, Autonomous, Bengaluru.

The objective of the session was to deliver information on the ACCA Examination and to provide guidelines to prepare for the same. There has been an increase in the demand for accounting professionals with globally recognized qualifications. In this regard the resource person explained the integration of ACCA course in the curriculum, the fee structure, registration process, exam centres, pattern of examinations and job opportunities available. Sir also emphasized that the course gives students practical financial skills that they can use in a variety of industries, including forensic auditing, international taxation, transfer pricing, mergers and acquisitions, valuations, internal audit, assurance, and accounting advisory (IFRS).

The session was informative and interactive equipping the students as they forward in the ACCA journey.

Orintation on Jayantian Code of Conduct

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance conducted Jayantian Code of Conduct on 3rd January 2024 at respective class rooms for the 1st year B.Com PAF students. The objective of the session was to make students reorient the Jayantian Code of Conduct of our college. The class animators highlighted on different aspects such as academic excellence, college timings and procedure of leave approval and also shared the importance of dress code, grooming and campus culture. The session was interactive and invited an open discussion with the students.

Faculty Enrichment Programme on Outcome Based Education

The Department of Professional Accounting & Finance conducted a faculty enrichment programme on Outcome-Based Education and the calculation as well as measurement of Outcomes. The workshop was conducted by Prof. Jagadeesh K K

The session was conducted on the 12th October 2023 at the A-506, 5th Floor, Admin Block from 4:30 p.m. onwards. The programme was highly informative as the session entails lays emphasis on clearly articulated idea of what students are expected to know and be able to do, that is, what skills and knowledge they need to have, when they leave the campus. Outcomes defined at three levels as program outcomes (POs), program specific outcomes (PSOs), and course outcomes (COs). The most important aspect of an outcome is that it should be observable and measurable.

The attainment levels of the courses and Programmes and the significance levels were also discussed. The programme was informative and useful.

Structured Query Language
Date: 22 September to 19 October 2023
B.COM Business Analytics program, in collaboration with the Institute of Analytics (IoA-UK), aims at preparing the students for the challenges of a rapidly changing business environment. A recent highlight of this program was the 30-hour SQL (Structured Query Language) certificate course conducted from September 22nd to October 19th, 2023, specifically tailored for the First and Third Semester students from the Department of Professional Accounting and Finance - B.Com Business Analytics programme. This course equips students with the vital skills in database analysis and design and provides insights into the processes of database development and administration using SQL and PL/SQL. Emphasizing the importance of proficiency in multiple programming languages, the training prepared students for successful careers in software development while setting the stage for lucrative and reputable careers in the analytics industry. This holistic preparation equips students for successful and high-paying careers in the field of Business Analytics, ensuring that they can meet the demands of the modern digital economy while fostering their professional growth and development.

Introductory Session on Young Tax Professionals by EY GDS Event

Modern times have brought about a tremendous increase in industry competition, necessitating the need for qualified employees rich with competitiveness and forward thinking. The corporate world has evolved to be more goal-oriented, quality-driven, and competency-driven. It is anticipated that a multidisciplinary and application-focused focus will prepare the student for the workplace. The EY introduction session supports learning and helps people get ready to transition from college to the workplace.

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance, in collaboration with the Centre of Employability and Corporate Relations (CECR), organized an Introductory Session on Young Tax Professionals by EY GDS meeting on 12th September 20223, from 11:50 am to 1:30 pm for the benefit of the III year Semester B. Com students. The resource persons for the event were from the EY GDS.

The major objective of the event was to provide as much information as possible on the EY organization and its policies. Future Young Tax Professionals were given an in-depth explanation of the job description. The resource persons shared insights on grooming, self-introduction, and interpersonal skills. They also discussed their personal experiences and motivated the students to prepare themselves for the corporate world.. The following crucial points were emphasized by EY GDS officials.

Hence, in order to enlighten the students on the importance of these courses, a guest lecture was organised, Mr. Suresh Kumar Mani CA, Finance Director, CSG Systems and Ms. Jasmine Pinto CA, Founder and Partner at Finzcurve Ventures was invited as the resource person.

KJLMS Orientation

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organized an Orientation programme on ‘Kristu Jayanti Learning Management System (KJLMS) on 5th August 2023 for the first year B.Com Professional students to acquaint them in the usage of the Learning Management System. Dr.Saranya S, Assistant Professor, Department of Professional Accounting and Finance, Kristu Jayanti College oriented the students. The session highlighted the importance of blended learning system in their studies. The session threw light on the four quadrants of KJLMS viz. Lesson activity, Interactive video, Open discussions and Assessments.

The students were also oriented on the procedure of accessing the KJLMS portal through the college website and also by using URL. The login credentials of KJLMS were shared with the students and they were instructed to change the passwords for enhancing security in usage. The grievance redressal mechanism was also communicated to the students. The session ended with a video depicting the stepwise procedure of taking up the assessments in KJLMS portal.

Orientation session on Business Analytics

Ms. Likitha K- Analytics and Digital Marketing - International Skills Development Corporation, provided a comprehensive introduction to the field of Analytics and its significance in our daily lives. She highlighted the practical applications of Analytics across various domains. The speaker emphasized on the significance of Business Analytics in the present day world. She outlined the subjects covered in the course, including Statistics with R Programming, Python Programming, SQL, SAS and Tableau, Big Data Analysis, and Social Media Analytics. The key takeaways are that the students gain access to over 300 courses on Data Camp, enabling them to stay updated with emerging topics in the field. During the session the speaker also touched upon the dynamic nature of the Business Analytics industry, highlighting its consistent growth across companies. This insight served as a motivation for students to consider Business Analytics as a promising career option. Overall, the lecture provided a solid foundation on the importance of Business Analytics, the role of professional bodies like the Institute of Analytics, and the diverse subjects and opportunities available to students pursuing this field.

Know Your College (KYC)- Quiz Competition

The "Know Your College" (KYC) - Quiz competition was organized by the Department of Professional Accounting and Finance for the I year B. Com students (Batch 2023). The Quiz competition serves as a platform for the students to develop their knowledge about the college and also gain deeper insights into the rich tapestry that makes up their college. The participation rate serves as a testament to the relevance of the quiz's content, as well as the eagerness of students to learn more about the institution that plays a pivotal role in their academic journey. The "Know Your College" quiz has not only provided an avenue for students to showcase their knowledge but has also revealed the extent of their connection to the college community. The quiz has not only highlighted the areas where students excel in their knowledge but has also identified opportunities for improvement, such as enhancing awareness of recent developments and administrative structures. Eventually, the insights gained from the quiz will serve as a foundation for fostering a more informed and engaged student body. The success of the "Know Your College" quiz reaffirms the importance of promoting a comprehensive understanding of the college and its offerings, contributing to a more enriched and rewarding academic experience for all students. Out of 523 participants, the winner was awarded the certificate.

Orientation on CMA and Job opportunities

Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organized orientation on “CMA and Job Opportunities” on 16th August 2023 from 12.45 pm to 1.45 pm in A1 Auditiorium, Admin Block for the first year B Com International Business and Finance students. Ms.Rhea Mariam Zenu, Manager, Academic Relations, miles Education, Mr.Kamal Vora, Senior Manager- EX KPMG, 3M-ANSR TCOE and Mr. Michael Wagner, Dean, Industry Relations, Miles Education Pvt.Ltd addressed the students

The main objective of this session was to make the students aware of the importance and value of the professional course Certified Management Accountant. Mr. Rhea Mariam explained about the course, curriculum, exam patterns and the IMA registration formalities. The speaker stressed on the the job opportunities and the guidelines to prepare for the CMA examination. Mr. kamal Vora elaborated on the difference between the Indian CMA degrees versus the US CMA certification. He also shared his personal experience from the corporate sector. Mr. Michael Wagner explained about the changing scenario in the job market and the opportunities ahead of a CMA. He also added about the extended support offered by Miles Education to our students up to five years.

Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organized orientation on “CPA and Job Opportunities” on 16th August 2023 from 1.45 pm to 2.45 pm in A1 Auditiorium, Admin Block for the first year B Com International Business and Finance students. Mr Madan M.G, CMA,CPA Mr.Kamal Vora, Senior Manager- EX KPMG, 3M-ANSR TCOE and Mr. Michael Wagner, Dean, Industry Relations, Miles Education Pvt.Ltd addressed the students

The main objective of this session was to make the students aware of the importance and value of the professional course Certified Public Accountant. Mr. Kamal explained about the concepts and how the examinations are conducted. The speaker highlighted the job opportunities and the steps taken to prepare for the CPA examination. Mr Madan shared his personal experience and explained in detail about the course and shared tips on how to prepare for the examination. He also made the difference between an accountant and an auditor clear to the audience. Mr. Michael enlightened us on the industry and the job opportunities CPA students have, and the demand for a CPA professional in the job market.

It was an interactive session among the speakers and the students. The course subjects and examination pattern was briefed to the students during this session. The session was concluded after the doubt clearing session.

Orientation on –“ UNLOCKING YOUR POTENTIAL”

CA and CS are the evergreen professional courses which always have a wide scope and great career opportunities .It is also the most significantly demanding field in the present scenario. Hence to cater the needs of students an orientation programme was organised by the Department of Professional Accounting and Finance, MR. M.IRFAT CA.,CMA.,CIMA.,CPA., Founder and Director of North Star Academy, Bengaluru, was invited as the resource person to share some of his thoughts and experiences relating to the courses and also to brief about the commencement and schedule of the CA and CS classes in our campus.

Mr.M.Irfat gave details of Chartered Accountancy/Company Secretary course and said that it is a dynamic, challenging and rewarding profession. The course involves a blend of theoretical education and practical training and equips students with knowledge, ability, skills and other qualities required for an Auditor. He spoke on the importance of doing either of the two courses. Sir highlighted that with the rapid growth in economy, careers in finance and accounts have gained tremendous popularity and is considered as the most prestigious & lucrative career options. Chartered accountants works as Chief Finance Officers (CFO), Finance Managers, Financial Controllers, Financial Advisors or Directors (Finance) and frame important financial strategies in the day today management of companies. They can also have their own consultancy or private firm which could be more rewarding and satisfying.

On the other hand, the Company Secretary is an in-house legal expert; a compliance officer of the company, an expert in corporate laws, securities laws, capital market and corporate governance. A Company Secretary can become a chief advisor to the board of directors on best practices in corporate governance responsible for all regulatory compliances of company & can be a corporate planner and a strategic manager.

The resource person has also advised the students to opt for co-curricular and extra-curricular activities to refresh them. Orientation programme created a great awareness among students regarding the importance of undertaking the professional courses and the immense career opportunities available for the CA and CS aspirants.

Orientation on “Road Map to ACCA Journey”

The Department of Professional Accounting & Finance organized a session titled “Road Map to ACCA Journey”. The resource person for the session was Ms. Nithya S, Senior Associate -Operation Support, International Skill Development Corporation. The main objective of the session was to motivate the students to excel in their attempt to clear the professional exams. Over the years, there has been a massive surge in the number of ACCA aspirants in the country. This is because of the increase in demand for accounting professionals with globally recognized qualifications. The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) is a global organization that offers the certification to be a professional accountant. In this regard the resource person spoke about the benefits of the course adding that the qualification equips one with well-rounded finance skills with practical application in industries, such as Accounting Advisory (IFRS), Risk Advisory, Mergers & Acquisitions, Valuations, Internal Audit, Assurance, International Taxation, Transfer Pricing, Forensic Auditing, Financial Reporting etc She also stated the benefits of becoming an ACCA Affiliate or Member stating that one could work not only in India but in over 180 countries across the world. Ms. Nithya also shared about the integration of ACCA course in the curriculum, fees, registration process, exam centres pattern of examinations and job opportunities. The session was informative and it was able to give the students a heads-up to commence their journey forward.

Workshop on Navigation through Miles LMS & Exam Orientation
Date: 10 February 2023
The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organized a workshop titled “Navigation through Miles LMS” on 10th February 2023 for second-year B Com CMA students. Ms.Rhea Mariam Zenu, CMA Manager-Academics and Student Relations, Miles Education, Bengaluru addressed the students.

The main objective of the session was to give the students hands-on experience with the Learning Management System of Miles Education. The resource person explained the procedure to access Miles LMS and assisted in registering in the LMS portal and guided them to navigate through various options available on the Miles website. Various options available in the LMS portal like Live Webinar Sessions, Forums, Recorded classes, MAC store, and Mock exams were discussed with the students. MS. Rhea also conducted a one-to-one mentoring session for the students where all the queries regarding the upcoming CMA exams were clarified. Information regarding the schedule of offline classes conducted by Miles Education and the additional assistance provided to the students were also discussed. The importance of attempting one mock test before taking up the CMA exam was also emphasized by the speaker.

It was an interactive session where Ms. Rhea clarified the queries of the students and encouraged the students to attempt and complete the CMA exam.

Statistics with R
Date: 23 January to 22 February 2023
Statistics with R is the certificate course in Business Analytics from ISDC an IoA-UK endorsed programme. The two batches of students from the 30-hour certificate course in statistics using R were conducted from 23rd Jan to 22nd Feb 2023. R programming skills and excellent data analysis techniques were taught to Business Analytics students in this course. The trainer offers a thorough explanation of how to set up the software required for a statistical programming environment, install it, and configure it. He also explains how high-level statistical languages incorporate general programming language ideas. The course covers practical issues in statistical computing which includes programming in R, reading data into R, accessing R packages, writing R functions, debugging, profiling R code, and organizing and commenting on R code. Working examples will be provided for topics in statistical data analysis.

Orientation Programme on Civic Responsibility

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance conducted an orientation programme on civic responsibility for all semesters of the Department of Professional Accounting and Finance students on 9 January 2023.

The program was enlightened with loads of information regarding the Jayantian code of conduct, civic responsibilities, and role in nurturing and preserving the environment. The main objective of the program was to re-orient the students on the code of conduct and civic responsibilities. Civic education in students is important for the survival of our democracy. Effective civic education is the primary means for teaching and learning democratic values. The focus of the program was also to acquaint the students with the civic responsibilities of road safety, protection of public property, protection and preservation of cultural heritage sites, protection, preserve and improve the natural environment, maintain the spirit of a common brotherhood, respect, value and follow all the noble ideals. The session ignited a sense of duty and responsibility

Orientation on CMA Exams

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organized an orientation session on “CMA Exams” on 18th January 2023 for the second-year B Com (CMA) students. Ms.Rhea Mariam Zenu manager-Academics and Student Relations, and Mrs. Nithya Rajagopal Vice President, Academics, Miles Education, Bengaluru addressed the students.

The speaker Ms. Rhea discussed the CMA exam registration procedures and the windows available for exam registration and explained the entire registration process step by step. The speaker also shared the importance of the use of LMS and shared details of all the LMS content that is available on the Learning Management system.

The speaker also guided the students on how to book the exam dates online and also outlined about Prometric center in Whitefield, Bangalore. Ms. Rhea insisted the students to carry their personal Calculators, Passports, and any other ID proofs along with the appointment letter in order to avoid inconvenience during the exam.

The session concluded with a Question & Answer session wherein the speakers clarified all the queries raised by the students. Tips for exam preparations and the approach to be followed was also shared by the speaker.

The session was interesting and motivational.

Orientation on CPA Programme

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organized Orientation on “CPA Programme” on 1st October 2022 at 11 am to 12.00 pm for the first year B Com International Business and Finance students. Mr. Madan M.G, who is qualified CMA and CPA addressed the students.

The main objective of the session was to make the students aware of the importance and value of clearing professional exam such as CPA. Mr. Madan explained about the role of CPAs in the corporate and enlightened the students about the globally integrated program CPA. The speaker explained the difference between various roles in the corporate such as Accountant, Auditor etc. The concepts and Professional curriculum and exam pattern was also discussed during the session. Students clarified various doubts and queries regarding the CPA Programme. This session highlighted the job opportunities available for the students who complete CPA Programme.

It was an interactive and informative session.

Python Programming

B.COM Business Analytics in association with The Institute of Analytics (IoA-UK) undergraduate programme designed to prepare students to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge so that they can meet the challenges of a changing business environment. Certificate in Business Analytics from ISDC is an IoA endorsed programme. The programme equips the learners with the skills and expertise to build a reputable and high paying career in the World of Analytics. The 30-hour course in Python Programming certificate course was conducted for two batches of students from 26th Sep to 4th Nov 2022 who have a strong interest in developing statistical and business skills required to succeed in the digital economy. The student has learned to interpret data and analyze patterns using ‘big data’ and drive strategic change in the organisation. The trainer provides an overview of Python's structure and highlights its versatility as a language that can be used for scientific computing and calculations, simulations, web development, and database systems. The trainer emphasized the importance of knowing multiple programming languages to succeed in the software development field.

Orientation on CMA Programme Thinking Beyond Boundaries

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organised an orientation programme on “Thinking beyond Boundaries” on 24th September, 2022 for the first year B.Com CMA students. The students were addressed by Mr. Madan M.G who is a qualified CMA and CPA. The main objective and motive behind the orientation was to provide the CMA students detailed information about the course, discuss its value and exam pattern.

The session began with an interactive session wherein topics such as volume of the stock exchange market, difference between the Indian GAAP and US GAAP, difference between auditors and management, types of shareholders were discussed. The scope of CMA was discussed and a detailed explanation of the difference between the Indian CMA degrees and the US CMA certification was provided. Mr Madan also provided information about the job profile of a Management Accountant. Detailed information about the syllabus and units to be covered for the CMA exams and exam patterns were explained effectively by the speaker. Mr Madan M.G cleared all doubts and queries of the students and made the session interactive and informative.

Orientation on ‘Kristu Jayanti Learning Management System (KJLMS)
The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organized an Orientation programme on ‘Kristu Jayanti Learning Management System (KJLMS) for the first year B. Com Professional students to acquaint them with the nitty-gritties of the LMS and also assist them in the usage of the Learning System.

Dr.Saranya S, Assistant Professor, Department of Professional Accounting and Finance, Kristu Jayanti College oriented the students. The session threw light on the four quadrants of KJLMS viz. Lesson activity, Video presentation, Open discussions and Assessments. The LMS served as an important tool in knowledge acquisition and impartation of blended learning systems.

The students were also oriented on the procedure of accessing the LMS portal. The login credentials were shared with the students and they were directed to change the passwords for enhancing security in usage. The grievance redressal mechanism was also communicated to the students. The session ended with a video depicting the stepwise procedure of LMS access.

Orientation on SEC, OE & KJC Portal

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance in association with Academic section of Kristu Jayanti College organized an orientation programme on SEC, OE, & KJC Portal for I BCOM students on 23rd August 2022 at 11.45 am. The Co-ordinator- PAF department CA Dr. Annie Stephen was the resource person for the expert talk. The session started with highlighting the importance and a brief background of the NEP 2020. The programme framework under NEP 2020 was explained and depicted to the students. The students were briefed of the various terms under the new curriculum which included DSC (Discipline Specific Courses), Open electives (OE), AECC (Ability Enhancement Compulsory courses) and SEC (Skill Enhancement Courses) and the credits offerings. The students were also briefed on the KJC event registration portal. The session included a video explaining the steps to be taken for enrollment in KJC Portal. The session was informative and interactive.

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organized an Orientation programme on the “Roadmap to CMA and CPA” on 30th August 2022 in Auditorium A2, Admin Block for the CMA students and first year B.Com International Business and Finance students. Mr.Varun Jain, (CPA CMA) - Co-Founder Miles Education and Futurense Technologies addressed the students. The main objective of the programme was to make the students aware of the importance and the value of clearing professional exams like CMA and CPA. Mr. Varun enlightened the students on the professional CMA and CPA and also explained the mode of examinations and the examination pattern of CMA and CPA . He explained the role played as profesionals and the challenges that lie ahead in the present world.

Mr.Jain emphasized the need to rely on data to provide hindsight, Insight & foresight. One should take data leverage to make financial decision making. The session highlighted the job opportunities available for CMA and CPA. The speaker gave a gist of IMA student membership which lets students appear for CMA exams before graduating and competency framework by IMA. The session was informative and interactive.

M.IRFAT CA.,CMA.,CIMA.,CPA., Founder and Director North Star Academy, Bengaluru, was invited as the resource person to share some of his thoughts and experiences relating to the courses and also to brief about commencement and in- house schedule of the CA and CS coaching sessions.

The resource person started the session by explaining the importance of CA and CS in the present scenario. He explained that there are three levels to accomplish the CA and CS courses. They are Foundation, Intermediate and Final levels. Doing CA and CS together has an excellent advantage. The advantage is that the course content are quite similar in both these courses. Most of the subjects & their contents are related to each other. Also as per the New Education Policy, the exams for such courses have been reduced from eight papers to six papers. CA should be chosen if one wishes to pursue a career in finance or accounting, but CS is the best option for those who want to seek higher-level managerial roles or legal management. Orientation sessions enable students to make important connections with the collegiate environment, academic studies, peers and network with the campus community. The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organized an informational orientation session for the students of second year as they began with their academic year 2022-23. Dr.Aloysius Edward, Dean of Commerce and Management addressed the students and stressed on the importance of value added and skill enhancement courses for the students in their academic life. He also updated the students about the new UGC guidelines. He emphasized on the importance of maintaining attendance in every semester and the consequences of not able to maintain required attendance. He wished the best for professional success of the students.

Workshop on ITR Filing

The resource person elucidated the intricate nuances of registrations and filing the ITR, guiding the participants through the process with clarity and precision. C A Sonali's interactive approach fostered an engaging learning environment, allowing participants to ask questions and seek clarification on specific tax-related queries. Her emphasis on the importance of timely filing and adherence to regulatory standards underscored the significance of responsible tax citizenship. Furthermore, Sonali's practical insights and real-world examples enriched the learning experience, enabling participants to apply theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios effectively.

The workshop on Income Tax Return Filing was instrumental in equipping participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the file ITR through the Income Tax Portal. The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organized an engaging and enlightening poster presentations. The objective was to celebrate and showcase the rich cultural diversity within the class. This allowed for a vibrant and varied display of traditions, beliefs, and practices. The event not only highlighted the diversity among the students but also encouraged cross-cultural understanding and appreciation. The posters created by the students were artistic expressions and informative displays. Each group took great care in researching and presenting key aspects of their culture, including food, clothing, traditions, festivals, and language. The judges evaluated the posters based on creativity, cultural representation, and presentation. The event was a true celebration of diversity and inclusion, highlighting the importance of understanding and respecting different cultures. It provided an opportunity for students to learn from each other and to foster a sense of unity amidst diversity.

Workshop on Data Analysis for Beginners

Data analysis is becoming one of the most in-demand skills of the 21st century. Data analysis is defined as a process of cleaning, transforming, and modeling data to discover useful information for business decision-making. The purpose of Data Analysis is to extract useful information from data and taking the decision based upon the data analysis. In this regard, Workshop was conducted for the students of IInd year all BCOM Professional Students. The main objective of this session was to guide the students in the area of Statistical Analysis.

This workshop has covered the following topics:

● Descriptive Statistics
● Correlation
● Calculation of Stock Return using Stock Price.
● Financial Statement Analysis.
The students responded very energetically and participated actively throughout the session. This session was ceased by the discussion of the random strategies executed among all and suggesting advice to enhance it.

Workshop on Leveraging LinkedIn Masterclass for students

Department of Professional Accounting and Finance conducted a workshop on Leveraging LinkedIn Masterclass for Fifth-semester B. Com students for the academic year 2021 – 2022. LinkedIn is a professional network community designed to help students and employees make business connections, share their experiences, and showcase their resumes to find and apply for jobs. As a student, they can use LinkedIn to search for their dream job, stay connected to a particular industry, and enhance their professional reputation. This platform is primarily used for professional networking and career development, and allows job seekers to post their CVs and employers to post jobs. In this regard, a workshop on Leveraging LinkedIn Masterclass was found apt and hence this programme was organized on 05th October 2021 through the zoom platform.

The Resource Person of the day was Ms Preeti Choudhary the Founder of LinkedInLocalIndia & Creator of PAN India #LinkedInLocalIndia Community She highlighted about how students can build and update their profile for better employment opportunity. She expressed the important points to be noted while building the LinkedIn Profile insisting on Dos and Don’ts in LinkedIn profile.

This session was interactive and informative and the students were encouraged to create and update their profile and also to connect to the people who can help them with their career opportunities.

Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence

As part of the B.Com Business Analytics program, a pivotal component was the 30-hour certificate course in machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) conducted in collaboration with The Institute of Analytics (IoA-UK) from February 26th to March 11th, 2024. Specifically tailored for fourth Semester B.Com Business Analytics students of the Department of Professional Accounting and Finance, this course was meticulously designed to impart hands-on experience with indispensable tools and techniques in machine learning and AI.

With a strong emphasis on proficiency in programming languages such as Python and R, students were adeptly primed for promising careers in AI development and data science, thus enabling them to thrive in the dynamic digital landscape and contribute significantly to the progression of AI technologies. Beyond technical proficiency, this comprehensive training also nurtures students' professional growth and positions them for leadership roles within the burgeoning AI industry. Proficiency in programming languages like Python and R offers students a multitude of advantages, catalysing their academic and professional growth. Mastery of these languages equips students with indispensable skills in data analysis, machine learning, and statistical modelling, fostering a deeper understanding of complex concepts and methodologies. Additionally, Python's versatility and expansive library ecosystem enable students to explore diverse applications, from web development to artificial intelligence, enhancing their adaptability and problem-solving capabilities.

The 30-hour certificate course in statistics using R was conducted for IInd Semester B.Com Business Analytics students in the Department of Professional Accounting and Finance from February 26th to March 7th, 2024.

CMA Master Class Session-Preparation for CMA Exam

Certified Management Accountants are the experts who explain the reason behind the figures in the financial statements. A CMA certification helps the accounting and finance professional to scale higher in the corporate sector. Such certification requires intensive and systematic preparation by the trainees. To make the students aware about the importance of systematic preparation the Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organized a master Class session for 2nd year CMA students on 8th November 2023 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Room No.A409. Mr.Uttam Pai U, CMA and CPA, AVP, Academics, Miles Education Bengaluru addresses the students. The speaker provided an overview of Part 1 of CMA exam with more focus on topics like budgeting, internal controls, importance of technology in an organization, costing and financial Statements. The important topics from the point of view of examination were discussed in a nutshell. Mr.Uttam also discussed on Part 2 of CMA exam with more emphasis on investment decisions and corporate governance. It was an interactive session wherein the students were given an opportunity to clarify their queries regarding exam preparation and important topics. The session helped the students to have a clarity regarding CMA exams.

ACCA Training Report on Strategic Business Reporting
The ACCA training program is a cornerstone for professional growth within the realms of accounting and finance. Specifically, the Strategic Business Reporting (SBR) subject plays a pivotal role, imparting advanced reporting and analytical skills to learners. As part of this endeavor, the Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organized ACCA training classes on SBR for V-B.Com P5 and P6, conducted from 16/08/2023 to 09/09/2023. Mr. Jayesh Jhadav, a seasoned professional in finance and a Trainer at ISDC, Bangalore, spearheaded these training sessions. Mr. Jayesh Jhadav, Trainer, ISDC, Bangalore. The training methodology employed a blend of case studies and real-world business scenarios. allowing participants to apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations.

Mr. Jayesh delved into discussions on the following topics conceptual framework, Lease, Non-current Assets for resale, Group Accounting, and Share-based payment. ACCA Training Report on Strategic Business Leader
The Strategic Business Leader (SBL) paper is a pivotal segment of the ACCA, designed to equip aspiring professionals with the skills necessary to lead in complex business environments. The training aimed to provide comprehensive knowledge in areas such as stakeholder management, governance, risk, and strategic leadership.

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organized ACCA training classes on Strategic Business Leader for V-B.Com P5 and P6 from 20/09/2023 to 09/11/2023. Ms. Bhoomika, Trainer, ISDC, Bangalore conducted the training classes. The training methodology employed a blend of case studies and real-world business scenarios. allowing participants to apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations.

The training was encompassed on developing leadership skills, corporate governance, Risk Management, Audit Assurance, Talent Management and professional skills, and enhancing decision-making abilities in multifaceted business scenarios.

Students attained proficiency in formulating strategic plans aligned with organizational objectives. Through case studies and simulations, they demonstrated adeptness in analyzing complex business situations, identifying risks, and proposing viable solutions.

ACCA Training Report- Financial Reporting
The Financial Reporting (FR) paper within the ACCA curriculum aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of international financial reporting standards (IFRS) and their application in preparing and analyzing financial statements. This report summarizes the ACCA training classes organized by the Department of Professional Accounting and Finance for III-B.Com P5 and P6 students, conducted from 20/09/2023 to 09/11/2023. The classes were led by Mr. Jayesh Jhadav, an expert in the subject and a Trainer at ISDC, Bangalore. The training methodology employed a blend of case studies and real-world business scenarios. allowing participants to apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations.

Mr. Jayesh delved into discussions on the following topics Lease for Assets, conceptual framework, Integrated Reporting, Group Accounting, and Intangible Assets. Concurrently, the training aimed to enhance student’s ability to interpret and communicate financial information accurately and ethically. The training sessions resulted in enhanced proficiency among participants in understanding and applying financial reporting standards. They demonstrated improved capabilities in analyzing financial statements, interpreting complex accounting principles, and addressing practical challenges encountered in the field.

CMA-Focus Group Discussion
Date: 08 November 2023
Focus Group in professional courses like CMA is one among the new initiatives of the Department of Professional Accounting and Finance. The objective of this initiative is to identify and train the students who have high potential to crack the professional courses. Two sets of focus groups were created for CMA programme for second year and third year CMA students. An expert talk for the second year CMA focus group was organized by the department on 8th November 2023 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Room No.A409. Ms.Alka Kothari, CA, ICWA, CPA, Instructor, Miles Education, Bengaluru addressed the students. The major focus of the session was to motivate the students to take up the CMA exams in the upcoming January-February window. The speaker stressed on the demand for the certified finance professionals across the globe. The important topics under part one of CMA from the point of view of exam were discussed during the session. Students were divided into sub-groups for making the group study more useful. Ms. Alka Kothari interacted with the students to identify the topics that they are weak at. The students raised many queries regarding the pattern, timing and areas to be focused. All their queries were clarified by the speaker.

Guest Lecture to “How to Pursue Your CA Dream”

The Chartered Accountancy qualification opens the door to a vast range of exciting career opportunities, in every sector of Business and Finance, both in India and internationally. Hence, in order to enlighten the students on the importance of the Chartered Accountancy course and the manner to pursue this dream, an expert lecture was organised, Mr. Georgy Mathew FCA, Senior Partner, Varma & Varma Chartered Accountants, Bengaluru was invited as the resource person.

The chief guest addressed the students on the importance of the course, and the professional examinations and encouraged them to begin their journey in the course. The talk started with an Interactive question ‘Why become a Chartered Accountant?’, and the majority felt that it was for Money and Power’. He also enquired with the students as to why CA exams were difficult to clear and the speaker shared his thoughts on the same.

He elaborated on how students can manage their time and highlighted that hard work was the key element to clearing CA exams and encouraged the students to not give up their dream and plan their time accordingly to become successful. The speaker also explained the differences between Articleship Training and Industrial Training.

The resource person concluded by highlighting that no other career offers the mobility that a Chartered Accountancy qualification does as they offer prospects in various fields such as Audit, Taxation, Consultancy services, etc. Encouraging the students to be goal oriented and never to give up, the session was insightful and motivational.

Guest Lecture on “Against all Odds”

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance successfully organized a guest lecture for the I B.Com ACCA students. Ms.Kauvya Ravichandran, CA, ACCA, Product Development Manager, North Star Academy, Bengaluru was the resource person.

To begin with, Ms.Kauvya Ravichandran gave an overview about the ACCA programme and the benefits of pursuing the course. She emphasized that ACCA qualifications one of the most prestigious courses. She also elaborated that ACCA designation is undoubtedly a symbol of excellence recognizable to employers around the world. She steered the students towards the path to ACCA Qualification through a presentation, by which the students could learn more about the Accounting profession, its benefits and its demand globally. The students also have gained essential knowledge concerning the ACCA exam schedule and were made aware of the integration of the ACCA programme with the B Com curriculum.

The programme culminated with a lively interactive session in which all the queries and doubts of the students’ regarding ACCA were effectively clarified. The session was informative and engaging.

Guest Lecture on Data Analytics: Strategic Decision Making

With the increasing intricacy and challenges in doing business, there is a necessity to get ourselves technically and professionally equipped through accumulating satisfactory proficiency while getting competent for CMA Course. In this regard, an expert lecture session was conducted for the students of IInd year BCOM CMA P7. The main objective of this session was to guide the students in heeding strategic decision-making in a company when the business territory and preferences are generally dynamic and share advice respecting correct decision-making with the allotted data or updated data.

The speaker for this session was: CA Siddhi Gaur from Miles Education.

The students responded very energetically and participated actively throughout the session. Before this session, all the students were requested to register themselves on the “Data Analytics Simulation” by “Harvard Business Publishing” to make the session more effective. The following topics were discussed:

• Formulation decision
• Strategic plan execution
• Promotional budget for trade channel spend
• Product features and positioning

• Promotional spending decision
• Clearing relevant queries

After conferring all the aspects of a strategic plan, an activity was administered in which all the students were instructed to attain an activity in which they have to generate the strategies for 4 years based on allotted data and observe the market share and operating profits incurred.
This session was ceased by the discussion of the random strategies executed among all and suggesting advice to enhance it.

Expert Lecture on “International Business Opportunities for Certified Management Accountants”

Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organized an expert lecture on “International Business Opportunities for Certified Management Accountants” on 25th August 2021 through Zoom, virtual platform. Mr. Nitish Kashyap, CMA, US and Founder of Manartha Solutions Private Limited addressed the virtual gathering of students.

Mr. Nitish Kashyap addressed the students about various career opportunities available for students after completing CMA. The speaker also stated the difference between financial accountants and management accountants. Mr. Nitish also highlighted the role and responsibilities of a CFO in an organization and enlightened the students about the career opportunities available for CMA as entrepreneurs’ .The speaker underlined the importance of freelancing and internships in enhancing the experience and making good industry networking. He laid emphasis on market research through TAM, SAM, SOM and Pestle analysis. The session also gave insights on the need for a meticulous preparation for CMA exams.

Guest Lecture on “Embarking on the Professional Journey”

In lieu of the same, the department of Professional Accounting and Finance conducts a guest lecture titled “Embarking on the Professional Journey”. The aim of the session was to orient the students on the significance of the professional courses and also explain the procedure of registration to the Professional bodies and the conduct of the coaching classes. The guest speaker Mr Irfat M shared useful information and gave tips to ace the exams.

It is also known that employers across the globe seek out ACCA-trained professionals as they possess strategic thinking, technical skills and professional values to drive their organizations forward.

Embarking on this wonderful journey, the students were provided an interactive session on 8/9/2021 to assist them in taking up the professional exams. The speaker Ms.Vasumathi, Country Head, ISDC addressed the students. The interaction with the students brought forth several queries such as dates of ACCA exams, entry deadlines, dual session booking and amendment of the exams and the order of exam choice. The speaker shared information and gave clarifications on the conduct of exams, mode of paying fees, mode of exams, amending the exam entry and also the new app available that guides the students through the ACCA journey. The students found the session informative in designing their pathway through the ACCA journey.

Orientatioon ACCA Course and the Way Forward

This orientation was focused and created with a goal of empowering the first year ACCA students to strive towards their goals and also to give a clear focus to the students on the ACCA Course. Orientation mainly focused on ACCA qualification and its exam structure, Integration of ACCA curriculum in the graduation course, its structure and exemptions, ACCA registration documentation and exam entries, Details of fees and various awards from ACCA ,Details about the training for the non-exempted papers, Information about the study materials, PER and membership details.

This session was informative and the students were encouraged to write for clearing ACCA Exams.

Orientation On CMA Course
CMA ‘Certified Management Accountant’ is one of the highest management accounting credentials in the world administered by the IMA (Institute for Management Accountants). CMA’s curriculum uses some of the most advanced testing techniques to test management accounting aspirants. Lakhs of aspirants take US CMA exams every year to grow into Management Accountants, Finance analysts and many other roles. In this regard, an orientation session was held for the students of I B.COM P7 on 15.11.2021.

Ms. Alka Kothari, CA, CPA, Cost Accountant, Corporate Trainer, Finance & Accounting Professional addressed the students on the importance of the course, the examination pattern and also encouraged them to be positive and confident. She also emphasised on key subjects such as CMA certification, professional experience, structure of examinations and various sub-topics covered under the CMA course such as External Financial Reporting, Budgeting, Forecasting techniques, Regression analysis, Costing, Corporate Finance, Risk management and Professional ethics.

The resource person concluded by highlighting the importance of the US CMA Designation that offers great value and provides a wide range of career avenues including international recognition, global qualification, in-depth knowledge about Management Accounting, Finance and Business Economics required for the corporate world.

Orientation on CMA Exams

Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organized an orientation on “CMA Examinations” on 6th December 2021 from 2.00 pm to 3.00 pm at Auditorium 1, Admin Block. Ms. Rhea Mariam Zenu, CMA, Trainer, Miles Education addressed the students.

The orientation was organized to help CMA aspirants’ understand the pattern of examination paper and also to provide the students tips for preparing for CMA exams. Ms.Rhea highlighted that CMA exams were meant to test the application knowledge of the students and rote learning was not advisable. The students were informed to attempt all the questions and not to leave any questions unanswered. The resource person also pointed out the importance of time management and to manage time by allocating time for multiple choice questions and essay questions appropriately. The relevance of mock exams were highlighted by the resource person. The students were also reminded about the mentoring opportunities provided by Miles Education.

The session concluded with an open discussion with the students wherein the resource person clarified their queries with regard to exams. The orientation programme helped the students to understand the need of meticulous preparation for CMA exam.

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organized an event titled 'Wheels to Heels' for the II semester students on March 11, 2024.Ms. Esther Prasanna Bernard, a distinguished personality in the realm of sports and fitness, graced the occasion as the resource person. With a notable career representing India in international championships, achieving the 24th position in the World Championship held in France, and accumulating over 100 gold medals along with 25 national gold medals in skating since 1988. Her accolades include the Young Achiever Award and Pratibha Puraskar. Holding esteemed titles such as Crown Walker, Mrs. Indian Pride of Nation, Face of South, and Goodwill Ambassador, she continues to make a positive impact as the Head of Skating at Vibgyor School Pan India."

Rare Disease Day Organized by Equal Opportunity Cell

Equal Opportunity Cell in association with the Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organized an expert talk commemorating Rare Disease Day, with focus on creating awareness of Hemophilia Disease, held on February 28, 2024. The session witnessed active participation from students of VI BTG and VI MBG classes.

Led by Dr. Santhosh Manivannan, Vice President of the Hemophilia Society, Bengaluru Chapter, the talk provided a comprehensive overview of Hemophilia Disease, covering its definition, types, genetics, and severity. Dr. Manivannan also discussed the different types of bleeds associated with hemophilia, highlighting their impact on individuals' daily lives.

Dr. Manivannan delved into societal aspects, outlining various programs and initiatives aimed at managing hemophilia in Bangalore society, including government lobbying, effective management strategies, open clinics, and educational and empowerment programs for youth and women. He emphasized the importance of holistic support from medical professionals and the significance of early diagnosis and proper management to mitigate the adverse effects of hemophilia.

The interactive session allowed attendees to engage with Dr. Manivannan, deepening their understanding of hemophilia and its management. The World Peace and Understanding Day 2024

The World Peace and Understanding Day, observed globally on February 23, stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of harmony, compassion and co-operation among diverse cultures, religions, and regions. In this regard, a poster competition was organized on 23rd, February 2024, by the Department of Professional Accounting and Finance.

The primary goal of the poster competition was to use art as a powerful medium to convey messages of unity, tolerance and the importance of resolving conflicts peacefully. Participants were encouraged to explore themes related to cultural diversity, human rights, environmental sustainability and social justice. A quiz competition was organized for the students as a part of the observance of International Day of Peace and Non-Violence. 67 students participated in the quiz competition.. The students displayed great energy and enthusiasm and participated in the events with zeal and enthusiasm.

Poster Making Competition- “Strenght in Unity-

The aim of the National Unity Day is to preserve the unity and integrity of India and to make people aware of the ideas of staying together and uplifting society. It also aims to reaffirm the solidarity among the people of India and to maintain the spirit of "unity in diversity" among the people.

National Unity Day in India is a day designated to commemorate the former Deputy Prime Minister, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. He was an influential politician who was also instrumental in the integration of the country.

On the commemoration of National Unity day 2023, the Equal Opportunity Cell of Kristu Jayanti College was organised a Poster making Competition on 31st October 2023 at 12: 30 p.m. onwards in A1 Audi, 2nd floor, Admin Block. The theme of completion was “Strength in Unity, where students were ask to prepare handmade posters in the hall itself.

Poster Competition on “World Earth Day”

Earth has long challenged human minds to observe and reflect. That's why reflecting on Mother Earth, is so important. The planet is truthful about consequences. Accountability is a part of humanity, and our actions have an impact on living things. The more knowledge we have, the better choices we make in our actions. It is important that the students to are aware of their roles and responsibilities in saving the planet.

On the occasion of World Earth Day, a poster-making competition was organized for all the first-year students from the Department of Professional Accounting and Finance. It was held on 22/04/2023 and the students participated enthusiastically in large numbers and depicted their creativity and unique ways of saving the Planet. They painted their perceptions on charts and canvases about the role that can be played by humans in saving the planet Earth from pollution and other damages.

The students also came up with wonderful titles and slogans and pledged to play a part in saving and nurturing the planet. The event brought about an increased sensitivity and consciousness among the students. The event invoked the attention of several students and drew their attention to their own bit toward saving the Earth.

Visit to Tritava Ashram, Thanisandra, Bangalore

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance, Kristu Jayanti College (Autonomous) had an opportunity to do things differently on 14th April to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, also known as Babasaheb Ambedkar, who was an Indian jurist, economist, social reformer and politician and is best known as the chief architect of the Indian Constitution.

The faculties and students decided to visit the Tritava Ashram, Thanisandra, Bangalore. They donated groceries to the Asharam. The students drew inspiration from the inmates and interacted with them. Despite challenges, the inmates welcome the students and the faculties, and their warmth and simplicity touched the hearts of the people who visited there.

In spite of fighting against the odds, their heart-warming welcome made our hearts skip a beat. The student’s interactions with the inmates were a wonderful sight. Students entertained the inmates by playing games, singing, and dancing with them.

It was indeed a unique and gratifying experience for the students and faculty as they could bring smiles to the aged faces. The visit to the aged home has been an unforgettable memory.

Workshop on Human Values

Scholarly debate on human values and character development has been there since the days of Aristotle [Nichomacean Ethics] and Socrates [Meno]. It is through education that young people are prepared for this social inheritance of human values. The duty of preparing well-rounded individuals was a task that was jointly taken up by parents and schools/colleges (and other educational institutions like the Gurukuls, ashrams, etc.), but things have changed drastically in the past few decades. It may be losing its charm.

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organized a workshop for the I year B. Com P5 student and commemorated Human Values Day. The workshop was headed by Dr. Nidhi Raj Gupta & Dr. Riya Singh, faculty coordinator for Human Values.

A workshop was conducted, comprising various activities such as offering appreciation cards to celebrate the bond among the peers. Also, a game related to teamwork was played to showcase the importance of teamwork and coordination as vital values and skills to possess in this day and age.

The workshop was a remarkable session for the students as it inculcated a sense of appreciation and gratitude. Observing this day reminds us that our actions and decisions have a profound impact on others, and encourages us to strive for a better future for all.

“Shishtaachaar- A Session On Professional Ethics”

Professional ethics are principles that govern the behavior of a person or group in a business environment. Like values, professional ethics too provide rules on how a person interacts with other people. Professional ethics are important to any organization because they provide personal and professional benefits by regulating the actions of a profession and stipulating the virtues of such a profession. They also encourage teamwork and promote bonds between colleagues. They are designed to ensure that employees are behaving in a socially acceptable manner.

With this intent in mind, the Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organized “Shishtaachaar – A Session on Professional Ethics” for the IV Semester B. Com Students on 20th March 2023.

Dr. R. Sashikala NLP, counselor, expert trainer, and writer addressed the students on the topic of Professional Ethics and Etiquette The speaker shared tips on ways to deal with people in a professional manner. The session included tips on anger management, problem-solving in relationships, networking, and developing an adaptable mindset to connect and network with others at work and even otherwise.

International Literacy Day Theme: “A Bridge From Misery to Hope”

International Literacy Day (ILD) is celebrated on 8th September every year across the globe to create awareness on the importance of literacy among the individuals. Literacy can be understood as the ability to read, write, speak and listen in such a way that it helps an individual to communicate effectively.

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance Organized Skill Development Activities to the students on the theme “A Bridge from Misery to Hope” to commemorate International Literacy Day. Three different competitions namely Card making with the theme “Gratitude for the lessons”, extempore on topics related to general awareness on literacy and the Best Journalist with the theme “Education to Everyone” were conducted to bring out the creativity, innovation and talent among students. The competitions were conducted both online and offline and 26 participants enrolled for the same. After thorough evaluation, results were announced and winners were declared for all the events.

Uday Bharat

Kristu Jayanti College,Autonomous (Bengaluru) aims to serve as a pivotal institution to nurture the aspirations of the flamboyant youths for the nation and wishes to instil the feelings of patriotism and love for the nation.

On the occasion of the 75th Independence day commemoration, the Department of Professional Accounting and Finance conducted inter- class events for the students. Uday Bharat 2022 carried the theme 'Nation First, Always First'. The whole program revolved around "Azadi Ka Amrith Mahotsav" in line with the inspiration from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. The event was conducted to instil patriotism among the students as we bring to mind the sacrifice made by the freedom fighters.

Uday Bharat 2022 was conducted for a period of four days, from 10th to 13th August with events ranging from Declamation, Poster Making, Group Dance, Group Song, Tableau and Photography. The events were conducted under the guidance of Dr.Gokilavani S, Prof.Indra Satish, Dr.Aakash Kumar and Ms.Vanlalhlimpuii. The student co-ordinators of the event Aayush Kumar and Garima Prasad along with the team ensured the instinctive flow of events. The programme witnessed the presence of Chief Financial Officer and faculty -Department of Commerce and Management- Father Jais V Thomas, Co-ordinator Dr Annie Stephen as well as the Chief Guest of the Day, Dr.Cpt.Sarvesh B.S – Head , Department of Kannada along with the faculties and students of the department.

The Chief Guest shared a powerful message igniting the students to stand up for the nation and do their bit towards the country. The speaker stated how the youth could contribute to the development of the nation and help achieve Prime Minister's vision of "Panch Pran" in the next 25 years. The programme concluded with the distribution of prizes to the winners.

World Youth Day

World Youth Day is observed on August 12 every year. Though this day is usually celebrated to throw light on the participation of youngsters, which the UN declares as the ages between 15 and 24 in the forming of better and more sustainable policies. However this year’s theme of “International Solidarity: Creating a world for all Ages” gives new light to this day, not only extolling the virtues of the youth, but those that came before them and those that will come. The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance from the Kristu Jayanti College, Autonomous has taken it upon ourselves to celebrate it in our way, through the help of various events. We as a department have organized an inter-class collage making competition to inculcate a sense of group competitiveness as well as unity among classmates, this will also allow the students to put their thoughts to paper in the simplest way possible, through imagery. We have also organized an elocution for the 2nd and 3rd year students to better express their opinions and ideals for the world on which we live in together. This gives them a chance to dream about and set a goal for themselves as to what kind of world they want to live in the future.

A Session on “21st Century Human Values"

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organized a Session on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. The topic for the session was “21st Century Human Values. Human values are of immense importance to lead a fulfilling life. This event was organized having in mind the relevance of human values in the 21st century. Inculcating these value in one’s everyday life can help us become better human beings as the decisions we make are a reflection of our values and beliefs.

The speaker started the session asking students what their understanding is about human values. The speaker then spoke on few aspects which are relevant in the current generation, such as being gender neutral, being local, social media ethics, professional ethics and importance of triple bottom line. The topic was very relevant and the speaker explained through very thoughtful issues from her personal experiences. The speaker explained on how to enrich oneself with human values. The session was conducted from 10a.m. to 11a.m. and was organized through the zoom platform. 380 participants joined the session. Overall the session was inspiring.

Expert Lecture on Patient Medication Safety in Covid-19 Management

Every person around the world will, at some point in their life, take medications to prevent or treat illness. Medications can cause serious harm if incorrectly stored, prescribed, dispensed, administered or if monitored insufficiently. Unsafe medication practices and medication errors are a leading cause of avoidable harm in health care across the world. Medication errors occur when weak medication systems and human factors such as fatigue, poor environmental conditions or staff shortages affect the safety of the medication use process. This can result in severe patient harm, disability and even death. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has significantly exacerbated the risk of medication errors and associated medication-related harm. Patient Medication Safety Day is celebrated on 17th September every year across the globe to create awareness on the importance of Medication safety. It was founded in 2019 by the 72nd world health assembly to raise awareness about patient safety, enhance public engagement in patient safety, and develop strategies for resolving patient harm issues.

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance in association with Commemorative Days and Human values organized a lecture to commemorate International Patient Medication Safety Day. The talk was given by Mr. Lakshmilanth Sharma R, First Division Assistant. He discussed about problems associated with medication during COVID, Time line of the Pandemic, Hierarchy of testing and quarantines details and also shared tips on the strategies’ that can be adopted to prevent medication lapses and errors. . He also shared insights on infection prevention and the precautions to be taken for leading a healthy life and information about unsafe medication practices and how to identify medication errors. The session was enlightening and informative.

You are the Chnage
The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance, Kristu Jayanti College (Autonomous) organized “Manavataavadam” Humanitarian program titled “You are the Change” in commemoration of “World Humanitarian Day” on 19th August 2021.

Ms Nicole Furtado, a covid warrior shared her experiences and glimpses of the Covid 19 victims and their struggles and also shared her experiences in giving a dignified farewell to the covid victims who succumbed to the virus.

Ms Nicole Furtado, BSW, Final year student of St. Joseph College (Autonomous), Bengaluru addressed the gathering and shared their most unforgettable moments while they volunteered to give decent burials to the victims and also shared the circumstances under which they worked. Further, she sensitized on how everyone could do their bit by extending their help in small ways. She also shared her views about sustainable living and showed the participants some of her daily use items like coffee cup, toothbrush, comb, and straws, notebooks which were either made of plant by-products or recycled materials. She emphasized on the need to protect the environment by planting trees, saving water and electricity and stand up for environment movements.

Lakshya

LAKSHYA is an event commemorating the days in the month of February and March, such as World Defense Day, World Wildlife Day, National Safety Day and International Women's Day. The Department of Professional Accounting & Finance organized an event-Lakshya for 4 days, commencing from 8th March to 11th of March 2022, in its endeavor to inculcate the universal values of respect, compassion, hope, love and discipline among the students. The events were conducted under the guidance of Prof. Litty Mariyam Kunju, by the student coordinators- Harshitha N Ravoor and Nayan Krishna and sub student co-ordinators. Following competitions were organized:

A. Poetry Writing
The topic for the poetry was “The Woman In You”. The duration for this activity was 40 minutes. The submissions were evaluated on the basis of relevance to the theme, accuracy and clarity of the message, language and words used along with its overall presentation. The poetry written by the students were inspiring and brought out the essence of true womanhood. The event was conducted on 8th of March 2022. The winners for the Poetry Writing event were:

Third Position: Priyanka S (BCom P1)

B. Card Making
The topic for card making was based on the theme of love. The students were to make the card for their loved ones and also capture an intimate moment with their loved ones or family members. The students were required to make the card without the use of any synthetic material like plastic and were to be handmade.

The card made by the students clearly portrayed their love for their loved ones. The event was conducted on the 9th of March 2022. Dr. Annie Stephen (Department of Professional Accounting and Finance) was the judge for the event. The winners of the Card Making competition were:

C. Poster Making:
The topic for poster making was “National Safety Day”. The students were to make a virtual poster, based on the theme of safety. The submissions were evaluated on the bases of the theme, and creativity along with its overall presentation. The event was conducted on the 10th of March 2022. Nayan Krishna (student coordinator) was the judge for the event. The winners of the Poster Making competition were:

D. Photography
The topic for photography was “World Wildlife Day”. The students were to submit photographs that were taken by them with no watermark and to be a nature based theme. The submissions were evaluated on the basis of the theme, composition, lighting, and originality.The event was conducted on the 10th of March 2022. Prof. Litty Mariyam Kunju (Department of Professional Accounting and Finance) was the judge for the event. The winners of the Poster Making competition were:

E. Theme Dance
The theme dance was based on the theme “Women Empowerment”. The students performed on the theme of Women’s day, expressing the different roles played by a woman and depicting their power. It was a group event with a maximum number of 10 members with a time limit of 3+2 minutes. The performances were evaluated on the bases of the theme, group execution, choreography and creativity. The event was conducted on the 11th of March 2022. Prof.Nancy Abraham (Department of Performing Arts) and Prof.Annu Kuriakose (Department of Professional Accounting and Finance) were the judges for the event. The winners of Theme Dance competition were:

Inter Class Competition based on Children’s Day

Children's Day is celebrated across India to increase awareness about the rights, education, and welfare of children. It is celebrated on 14 November every year on the birthday of the First Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Known as 'Chacha Nehru' among children, Nehru advocated for children to have an all-rounded education that would build a better society in the future. Nehru considered children as the real strength of a nation and the foundation of society.

The Department of Professional Accounting & Finance organized D’Enfant Children’s Day on 17th November 2021, with the theme “awakening the child within you”. As adults, people tend to get so entangled with the worldly affairs and leave their childhoods behind, losing out on their ability to live in the moment. There is a child in every being and lets bring out the child in us to have a fuller life. With this intent, a competition was conducted under the guidance of Prof. Litty Mariyam Kunju by the student coordinators- Jiya Babu and Kevin Joseph.

REQUIESCENCE Peace begins with a smile

The International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September. As conditions begin to improve, after the COVID-19 pandemic, we are inspired to think creatively and collectively about how to help everyone recover better, how to build resilience, and how to transform our world into one that is more equal, more just, equitable, inclusive, sustainable, and healthier.

The pandemic has been accompanied by a surge in stigma, discrimination, and hatred too. Climate change is not on pause. We need a green and sustainable global economy that produces jobs, reduces emissions, and builds resilience to climate impacts. The 2021 theme for the International Day of Peace is “Recovering better for an equitable and sustainable world”

Commemorating International Peace Day, the Department of Professional Accounting and Finance conducted events to inculcate the universal values of ethics, compassion, hope and discipline among the students. Events such as Reimagine Tranquilite -Poster Making competition and Reimand Eirene (Debate competition) were conducted under the guidance of Dr. Reenu Mohan and Prof. Litty M K by the student co-ordinators- Dhanya Narayanan and Sharon Joseph and team.

On 18th September 2021, the International peace day was celebrated online over the zoom platform to recognize the efforts of those who have worked hard to end conflict and promote peace. Dr. Reenu Mohan said that promoting peace should not be a responsibility of a few but all of us should be made accountable for spreading peace and unity. SDG 16 is specifically dedicated to fostering peace, justice and strong institutions.

Panel Discussion on the occasion of Literacy Day
The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organized a Panel Discussion on the occasion of Literacy Day. The theme for the event was “Literacy for a human-centered recovery: Narrowing the digital divide”, the theme opted by UNESCO for 2021. It is important to remind the public of the importance of literacy as a matter of dignity and human rights, and to advance the literacy agenda towards a more literate and sustainable society. This event was organized keeping in mind the relevance of literacy for individuals' understanding, it's need for an intensified effort towards the creation of a more literate society. Topics such as Bridging digital divide, Healthcare, Changing landscape in education and Robinhood investors were chosen for Panel Discussion. All the teams performed well and gave a tough fight to their competitors. An exclusive page was created on Instagram and each team had uploaded a poster with respect to their topic. The posters generated substantial likes and media attention. The event paved the way for experiential learning.

World Photography Day 2021 - Pandemic Through the Lens

August 19 is celebrated as World Photography Day, a day to pay keep the history of photography alive and create a positive trail for the future. We all know that France was a pioneer country in the world of photography, which gave the world, the first photographic processes. It was in the year 1839 that Louis Daguerre invented the daguerreotype, a photographic process at a time when the world could never have anticipated that a moment could be captured permanently through a photograph. In 1826, Niepce captured the earliest known permanent photograph known as “View from the Window at Le Gras” using a process called heliography. As early as 1839, American Robert Cornelius clicked a selfie. Cornelius set his camera up, took the image by removing the lens cap and then running into frame. On the back, he wrote “The first light picture ever taken 1839”.

The first digital photograph was taken in 1957; almost 20 years before Kodak’s engineer invented the first digital camera. In 1861, the first colour photograph appeared on the scene by Thomas Sutton.

From them on, we have been capturing beautiful instances and visuals as long lasting memories. Then the old photography themes were shelved entirely to make way for sophistication, filters, effects and 3D visualization treats. On August 19, 2010 World Photo Day hosted its first global online gallery in which almost 270 photographers shared their pictures and people from over 100 countries visited the website. This marked the first official, globally reaching World Photo Day.

In commemorating this wonderful day, the department of Professional Accounting and Finance announces the Photography contest for its students. Let us all celebrate this wonderful day. Happy World Photography Day!

Uday Bharat 2021
Date: 10, 11, 12 & 14 August, 2021
Kristu Jayanti College, Bengaluru, in line with the vision cast in the New Education Policy, aims to plant a patriotic fervor within every student. The main focus of the college has always been to grow young and dynamic leaders to play the role of change-makers in their society.

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance under the able leadership of the coordinator Dr Annie Stephen conducted a patriotic and cultural event for the students on the occasion of India’s 75th Independence Day. The event was named Uday Bharat 2021 with the theme Revival, Resurgence, and Resilience. The programme was conducted online with the vision to revive the patriotic zeal within each student, look forward to the resurgence of the great Indian society and build a resilient generation amidst the various challenges. The whole programme conducted with the tagline “Azadi Ka Amruth Mahotsav,” in line with the inspiration from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.

Uday Bharat 2021 was held for four days from 10th, 11th, 12th and 14th August with 6 different events, such as Just a Minute,Declamation, Poster Making,Solo song, Solo Dance and Quiz. The event was held under the guidance of Dr Gokilavani, Prof. Litty, Prof Nirmala and Dr. Madhavi. The student coordinators Theertha Manoj, Joel P Kuruvilla and several sub-student coordinators handled each event and ensured a smooth conduct of the events. The Valedictory Ceremony of Uday Bharat 2021 was held on 14th August from 3:30 - 4:15 pm via Zoom. The programme witnessed the presence of the Dean of Commerce and Management. Dr Aloysius Edward, the Head of the Department Prof. Vijay Kumar, the Coordinator Dr Annie Stephen and the faculties and students of the department.

The Dean of Commerce in his concluding remarks shared three key takeaways -
1. Work on fulfilling our parents' aspirations.
2. Uphold the strong moral values – work ethics,sincerity.
3. Have a self-civic sense- be proud of our country, diversity and culture.
These three points will help us to be part of our nation‘s progress and will help to achieve Prime Minister‘s vision of a 5 trillion economy. The M.C for the event was Prof. Litty Mariyam Kunju. The Dean Dr Aloysious Edward addressed the gathering and spoke to the students about responsibility to the nation and society. The winners of each event were announced during the valedictory ceremony by Prof. Nirmala.

Integrity and Trust

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance at Kristu Jayanti College hosted a captivating session on Human Values, titled “Integrity and Trust" on March 1st, 2024. Led by Mr. Sibey Mathew,Director, Haggai International. The session blended humour, engaging activities, and insightful discussions to leave a lasting impression on the audience. Mr. Mathew emphasized the importance of both character and skills, encouraging students to embrace honesty as the only policy and redefine leadership as functional rather than positional. The interactive session, filled with quotable moments and open dialogue, proved to be a valuable learning experience for all participants. The session explored the importance of character and integrity beyond technical skills, leaving a lasting impression on the audience through interactive activities and insightful discussions.

Mr. Mathew's captivating approach kept the audience engaged throughout. He utilized a dynamic blend of elements, including stories, fitting metaphors, personal anecdotes, and fun activities. Additionally, Mr. Mathew's effective use of PowerPoint presentations, Whiteboard illustrations, and Powerful language, further enhanced the learning experience.

The session resonated with the audience, leaving them with several quotable moments:

Gratitude is the Best Attitude

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance at Kristu Jayanti College hosted a thought-provoking session titled "Gratitude is the Best Attitude" on February 29th, 2024.This special program explored the theme of human values, focusing on the importance of gratitude in everyday life. Siddharth Mahajan, a visualy challenged student served as the inspiring guest speaker. He shared his personal story of overcoming challenges while maintaining a positive and grateful attitude. Mr. Mahajan emphasized the significance of expressing gratitude not solely out of sympathy, but from a genuine desire to appreciate the good in life. He also highlighted the importance of setting goals and striving for personal growth.

The session included interactive activities that engaged students in self-reflection and encouraged them to appreciate the positive aspects of their lives. Participants gained valuable insights into the power of gratitude and its impact on personal and societal well-being. Shishtaachar

Rinu Mathew's enlightening talk on corporate values encompassed a comprehensive exploration of essential elements vital for success in the professional arena. With a focus on values such as punctuality, discipline, language, culture, ethics, integration, and trust-building, his discourse provided invaluable insights into the core principles that underpin corporate excellence.

He began by stressing the significance of punctuality as a foundational value in corporate culture. Emphasizing the importance of respecting time commitments, he highlighted how punctuality reflects professionalism and reliability, essential traits valued by employers and colleagues alike.

Discipline emerged as another key theme in Rinu's discourse, emphasizing the need for self-motivation, accountability, and consistency in professional conduct. He elucidated how discipline fosters efficiency, productivity, and personal growth, contributing to individual and organizational success.Language proficiency was underscored as a crucial aspect of effective communication in the corporate world.

Furthermore, Rinu delved into the significance of corporate culture, emphasizing the values, norms, and practices that shape organizational identity and behavior. She elucidated how a strong corporate culture promotes unity, cohesion, and shared goals, driving employee engagement and organizational performance. Ethics emerged as a cornerstone of discourse, emphasizing the importance of integrity, honesty, and ethical conduct in all professional interactions.Integration was emphasized as a key value in fostering diversity, inclusion, and teamwork within organizations. Visit to Preethinivas Trust

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organized a visit to Preethinivas Trust, a renowned non-profit organization dedicated to the welfare of underprivileged children on the 5th of February 2024. The visit aimed to provide an opportunity for faculty members and students to engage with the community and understand the social issues. Upon arriving at Preethiniwas, our students and teachers were warmly welcomed by the staff and residents. The visit included a range of activities aimed at creating a positive and enjoyable experience for both the students and the elderly residents.

The visit to Preethiniwas was a fulfilling experience for both the students and teachers. It offered an opportunity for our students to develop empathy, understanding, and a sense of responsibility towards the elderly in our community. The joy and gratitude expressed by the residents emphasized the positive impact such visits can have on everyone involved.

Human Values

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance hosted a profound exploration of human values, sparking introspection among students on 21sr October 2023. The session offered a platform showcasing impactful documentaries such as "Sheetala Devi," chronicling the inspiring journey of a Paralympic gold medalist in Archery, and "Elephant Whispers," illustrating the profound connection between humans and animals, embodying true human values. These films served as catalysts, sparking deep introspection and contemplation among the audience. Subsequently, a thought-provoking panel discussion ensued, where students fervently shared insights and reflections drawn from these powerful narratives. This session became an immersive experience, fostering a deeper understanding of the values pivotal for the human experience and leaving a lasting impression on all participants. The session transcended mere observation, becoming a reflective discourse on the essence of humanity. Each participant left with an indelible impression, igniting a collective understanding of compassion and empathy, fostering a transformative journey toward a more enlightened world.

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organized “JOY OF GIVING” week from 30/10/2023 to 04/11/2023 in collaboration with Karnataka Civil Defense Corps (KCDC). Stationery such as notebooks, pens, pencils and erasers were gathered and distributed to the students of the government college. All students were happy and expressed their gratitude to the teachers and volunteers.

Visit to Home of Faith
The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance, Kristu Jayanti College (Autonomous) had an opportunity to do things differently on 2nd October 2023 to commemorate the birth and virtues laid down by the great leader, Mahatma Gandhi, faculties and students donated the needed groceries and faculties and students of the Department visited ‘Childrens Orphanage Home, Byrathi, Bangalore. The time we spent with them was great. In spite of fighting with the odds their heart-warming welcome made our hearts skip a beat. For our students and faculties, this visit will never be forgotten. The student’s interactions with the inmates gave them a sense of belonging to society. Students entertained the inmates by playing games, singing, and dancing with them. It was the most worthwhile time ever spent.

It was indeed very satisfying experience for the students and faculty as they could bring smiles on children’s faces however for a brief period. This visit to children’s home had really awakened the students socially where they stand and what are their responsibilities. They also learnt that life is not easier all the time.

Workshop on Human Values

Scholarly debate on human values and character development has been there since the days of Aristotle [Nichomacean Ethics] and Socrates [Meno]. It is through education that young people are prepared for this social inheritance of human values. The duty of preparing well-rounded individuals was a task that was jointly taken up by parents and schools/colleges (and other educational institutions like the Gurukuls, ashrams, etc.), but things have changed drastically in the past few decades. It may be losing its charm.

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organized a workshop for the I year B. Com P5 student and commemorated Human Values Day. The workshop was headed by Dr. Nidhi Raj Gupta & Dr. Riya Singh, faculty coordinator for Human Values.

A workshop was conducted, comprising various activities such as offering appreciation cards to celebrate the bond among the peers. Also, a game related to teamwork was played to showcase the importance of teamwork and coordination as vital values and skills to possess in this day and age.

The workshop was a remarkable session for the students as it inculcated a sense of appreciation and gratitude. Observing this day reminds us that our actions and decisions have a profound impact on others, and encourages us to strive for a better future for all.

Visit to Tritava Ashram, Thanisandra, Bangalore

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance, Kristu Jayanti College (Autonomous) had an opportunity to do things differently on 14th April to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, also known as Babasaheb Ambedkar, who was an Indian jurist, economist, social reformer and politician and is best known as the chief architect of the Indian Constitution.

The faculties and students decided to visit the Tritava Ashram, Thanisandra, Bangalore. They donated groceries to the Asharam. The students drew inspiration from the inmates and interacted with them. Despite challenges, the inmates welcome the students and the faculties, and their warmth and simplicity touched the hearts of the people who visited there.

In spite of fighting against the odds, their heart-warming welcome made our hearts skip a beat. The student’s interactions with the inmates were a wonderful sight. Students entertained the inmates by playing games, singing, and dancing with them.

It was indeed a unique and gratifying experience for the students and faculty as they could bring smiles to the aged faces. The visit to the aged home has been an unforgettable memory.

“Shishtaachaar- A Session On Professional Ethics”

Professional ethics are principles that govern the behavior of a person or group in a business environment. Like values, professional ethics too provide rules on how a person interacts with other people. Professional ethics are important to any organization because they provide personal and professional benefits by regulating the actions of a profession and stipulating the virtues of such a profession. They also encourage teamwork and promote bonds between colleagues. They are designed to ensure that employees are behaving in a socially acceptable manner.

With this intent in mind, the Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organized “Shishtaachaar – A Session on Professional Ethics” for the IV Semester B. Com Students on 20th March 2023.

Dr. R. Sashikala NLP, counselor, expert trainer, and writer addressed the students on the topic of Professional Ethics and Etiquette The speaker shared tips on ways to deal with people in a professional manner. The session included tips on anger management, problem-solving in relationships, networking, and developing an adaptable mindset to connect and network with others at work and even otherwise.

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance, Kristu Jayanti College (Autonomous) organized “Manavataavadam” Humanitarian program titled “You are the Change” in commemoration of “World Humanitarian Day” on 19th August 2021.

Ms Nicole Furtado, a covid warrior shared her experiences and glimpses of the Covid 19 victims and their struggles and also shared her experiences in giving a dignified farewell to the covid victims who succumbed to the virus.

Ms Nicole Furtado, BSW, Final year student of St. Joseph College (Autonomous), Bengaluru addressed the gathering and shared their most unforgettable moments while they volunteered to give decent burials to the victims and also shared the circumstances under which they worked. Further, she sensitized on how everyone could do their bit by extending their help in small ways. She also shared her views about sustainable living and showed the participants some of her daily use items like coffee cup, toothbrush, comb, and straws, notebooks which were either made of plant by-products or recycled materials. She emphasized on the need to protect the environment by planting trees, saving water and electricity and stand up for environment movements.

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance conducted an orientation session on Jayantian Code of conduct on 05th August 2023 at Auditorium M1, Main Block, for the first year B.Com PAF students Batch (2023-26). The objective of the session was to get the students acquainted with the Vision & Mission of the college, Founder members and their role in establishing education institutions, and also the Jayantian Code of Conduct of the college. The speaker shared the importance of dress code, grooming and campus culture.

Kristu Jayanti College requires all students to act as responsible citizens and members of a higher education academic community. Each student is responsible to know, observe, abide by, and adhere to the College's student code of conduct, policies, rules, and regulations. Students must comply with all policies applicable to conduct in the classroom as well as in the campus.

Kristu Jayanti College welcomed their first-year UG students (Batch 2023) to the campus and oriented them on various aspects of a student’s life and the opportunities provided to the students to foster growth and development. The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance successfully conducted Value Added Courses (VAC) titled “Professional Success Navigator of Excellence" for the academic year 2023 – 2024, targeted towards II B.Com professional students.

The primary objective of this program was to bridge the gap between campus education and the requirements of the corporate world. The sessions took place from 26th July 2023 to 1st August 2023, covering a diverse range of topics. These topics included the Basics of Excel, Presentation Skills, Communication Skills, 5Q’s (Five Quotient), Higher Education, and Employability Skills.

The faculty members facilitated various classroom activities, providing practical demonstrations of the application of Excel software for organizing data effectively. Emphasis was also placed on the significance of strong Presentation and Communication skills, with students being trained on techniques for effective communication and delivering impactful presentations.

During the course, the concept of the 5 Q’s of life was extensively discussed, enabling students to develop a holistic understanding of their personal and professional aspirations. Furthermore, the program provided valuable insights into job opportunities both within India and abroad, as well as information on pursuing higher education to enhance employability prospects and plan future career paths.

To assess the students' understanding and knowledge gained from the VAC, exams were conducted through the Learning Management System of the college on 2nd August 2023. Upon successful completion of the program, eligible candidates will receive certificates acknowledging their participation and achievement in the “Professional Success Navigator of Excellence " Value Added Course.

The objective of the program is to introduce the importance of professional ethics for better career development, to impart morals and values among students, to acquaint them with the need for stress management in work place to understand the ways for work place stress management and to promote mental health and well-being among the students. The sessions were conducted from 18th August 2022 to 27th August 2022 on various topics, including Basics of professional ethics, moral values, stress management in work place, Employee relationship management, mental health and well-being. Various activities were conducted in the class rooms to make learning an enjoyable experience. VAC exams were conducted for the I B.Com professional students through the Learning Management System of the college on 27th August 2022.

Life skills are the capabilities that enable individuals to take adaptive and positive behavior that makes them able to deal challenges of everyday life and also bridge the gap between the campus and the corporate and assist in the smooth transition thereby. Life skills education helps in the promotion of positive personal behaviors, social adaptation, citizenship and positive attitude at work.

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance conducted Life Skill Training sessions for the First-semester B.Com students. The classes were conducted from 10th -14th August, 2023.

The program was designed with an aim to transform the students by helping them realise their true potential and enhance the skill sets of the students. The lesson content was delivered with the help of power point sessions and activity based and fun based learning. The course was structured to foster discussion between participants around the core themes of the course which included self-awareness, problem solving, creative thinking, critical thinking, decision making and so on. This was achieved by hosting small group debates decision making, role plays and student interactions and discussions. The sessions also help develop team spirit and build a sense of belongingness with the department. The sessions were a great platform for self-discovery and initiating change mechanisms.

The session covered introduction about Worldcoin project, Worldcoin working process, the aim of this project and also the criticism faced by the project.

This presentation had provided unknown insights about how advance technology is used and the challenges faced by them. This session even covered how the neuralink technology works and medical applications of it. Allegations of animal testing, prioritizing speed over safety and other criticism faced by them still being investigated by public.

This donation made to the Ayodhya Ram Mandir Trust will also make an individual eligible for tax deduction under section 80G of the Income-tax Act, 1961, provided he/she chooses the old tax regime. The presenter made a presentation on the Income tax raid conducted in the premises of BBC. The presenter also shared insights on Income tax Inspections and the procedures involved while conducting a Raid. The procedure of search and seizure were also shared. The session was interesting and paved the way for interaction and discussions.

The presenter introduced the topic of Benami Deals to the students and shared few cases on Benami Deals. "Benami deals" refer to transactions where property or assets are held in the name of a third party, often to conceal the real owner's identity. The Surat Case was cited with an allegation of “benami deals" worth of approximately Rs 1,700 crore. Land and business documents revealing benami deals worth Rs 1,700 crore were seized during the raids that uncovered the benami deals between the diamond firms and the real-estate market. The presenter also shared insights on Bhavna Gems case. The company maintained the benami records at a small electrical shop opposite their factory in Katargam. The officials have seized records from the past 15 years to 17 years from both firms. The session was interesting and intereactive.

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organised a peer learning session on 10th February, for the second year B.Com CMA students. The students were addressed by the final year students Mr.Aldrin Saijan who cleared part 2 of the CMA Exam and Ms. Aneena Telson P, who cleared part 1 of the CMA exam in their first attempt itself. The main objective of the session was to provide the CMA students with detailed guidelines on preparing for a highly competitive professional exam such as CMA.

Mr.Aldrin explained the importance of spending some amount of time on a daily basis, in order to clear the paper. Ms. Aneena explained the various sources of study materials available including online platforms for conceptual clarity. They shared their ideas and views on how to clear the CMA exam and also shared their experiences and challenges they faced during the preparation. They encouraged the students to prepare for the exam with a clear vision and focus. The speakers explained the importance of solving at least twenty questions daily so that they can complete a major portion of the practice questions. Mr. Aldrin emphasised the significance of making the theoretical concepts clear and this will be useful when appearing for the essay section. They also encouraged the students to resources and content on Google such as study videos and reference materials.

The session concluded with an open discussion wherein Mr.Aldrin and Ms.Aneena clarified the doubts and queries raised by the students and thereby making the session interactive and informative. They also encouraged the students to attempt the CMA exam and assured them that it is highly achievable if the students are willing to pay the price.

Peer Learning Session on “Preparation For Cma Exam”

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organised a peer learning session on 22nd September, 2022 from 10am to 11.00 am for the second year B.Com CMA students. The session was conducted by Mr. Aaron Joseph Thomas, student of final year B.Com P4 who completed part1 of CMA Exam in the first attempt. The main objective of the session was to provide the students detailed guidelines on preparing for a highly competitive professional exam such as CMA.

Mr. Aaron shared his ideas and views on how to clear CMA exam and also shared his experiences and challenges he faced during the preparation. He encouraged the students to prepare for the exam with a clear vision and focus. The speaker explained the importance of daily practice of questions, increasing the pace of solving the problems and also the need to have a time frame of preparation. Mr. Aaron suggested various platforms like google, YouTube where the students can access more relevant information related to their exam.

The session concluded with an open discussion wherein Mr. Aaron clarified the doubts and queries raised by the students and thereby made the session interactive and informative.

Student Seminar New Technology Developed by ISRO Called the Inflatable Aerodynamic Decelerator (IAD)

Kevin Cherian, student, V B. COM P3 took over a session on ISRO new technology that can be used for Mars, Venus Missions. 54 students from V B.Com P3 participated in this session.

ISRO successfully demonstrated a new technology with Inflatable Aerodynamic Decelerator (IAD) which was a game-changer with multiple applications for future missions. An IAD was designed and developed by ISRO’s Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), was successfully test flown in a ‘Rohini’ sounding rocket from Thumba Equatorial Rocket Launching Station (TERLS). The IAD was initially folded and kept inside the payload bay of the rocket, according to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Bengaluru. At around 84 km altitude, the IAD was inflated and it descended through the atmosphere with the payload part of sounding rocket. The system for inflation was developed by ISRO’s Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC). The IAD has systematically reduced the velocity of the payload through aerodynamic drag and followed the predicted trajectory. ISRO further reported that new IAD elements like micro video imaging system which captured the bloom and flight of IAD, a miniature software-defined radio telemetry transmitter, MEMS (Micro-electromechanical systems)-based acoustic sensor and a host of new methodologies were flight tested successfully. The session was informative.

Student Presentation on Mega Rail Project

Abdullah, a student of Vth semester BCom P3 did a presentation on Silver Line Project on 10-09-2022.Around 75 students participated in the session. The speaker shared his thoughts on the mega rail project of Kerala which is the Silver Line project in association with the Kerala Government and the Central Government.

The Silver Line which is a proposed higher speed line line in India that would connect Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city, and Kasaragod of Kerala state would have an operating speed of 200 kilometres per hour (120 mph), [Maximum Design Speed: 220 kmph (55 mps), (structures designed for 250 kmph (69.5 mps))] allowing trains to cover the 532-kilometre (331 mi) distance in less than four hours, compared to the present 10 to 12 hours it takes to traverse this distance. It was a very informative session as the speaker shared a detail information about the project Outline, Background and its impact on the environment.

Student Presentation on Sri Lankan Crisis

Aman Sharma, a student of Vth semester B Com P3(2020 Batch) presented on the Sri Lanka crisis on 06-09-2022. 75 B Com students participated in the session. The speaker shared information about the devastating crisis in Sri Lanka and the impact of the same on the nation. He also added that the Sri Lanka’ s economic crisis was driving millions of people into poverty, jeopardizing their rights to health, education, and an adequate standard of living, Human Rights. The United Nations had estimated that 5.7 million people in Sri Lanka need humanitarian assistance, with 4.9 million – 22 percent of the population – being food insecure, meaning they do not have consistent access to adequate, nutritious food. Families were already struggling from the pandemic, with 36 percent reporting reducing their food consumption in a UNICEF survey in late 2020. That number doubled to 70 percent, just as the economic crisis hit. The speaker also shared his opinion on the causes for such crisis and ways to resolve it. It was an informative session as the speaker shared his insights on the various aspects of the Sri Lankan crisis.

Discussion On Agricultural Income on Agricultural Income

Firmly ensconced in this category is the notion that the Indian farmer is the annadata whose sweat and tears feed 1.4 billion Indians? Since agriculture income doesn’t attract income tax, virtually every rich Indian becomes a ‘farmer’. Note how income attributable to a ‘farmhouse’ is exempt from income tax provisions. Millions of rich Indians- politicians, entrepreneurs, film and sports stars, lawyers, doctors, architects, chartered accountants-have all become annadatas because of this “deliberately” placed loophole in the rules. There has never been a reliable or reasonably accurate study and estimate of how much income in India escapes the tax dragnet because of this annadata fixation.In such a scenario, even a suggestion that Section 10(1) of the Income Tax Act, 1961 be abolished would sound like a double dose of heresy and blasphemy.

Jaise Mathew, a student of Vth semester B Com P3 therefore initiated a debate on the topic agricultural income and whether the same should be exempted from tax. The students participated in an intelligent exchange of views and ideas. He session was thought provoking.

The objective of the discussion was to draw out the strategies of Elon Musk on buying the most popular Social- Media called Twitter. Tesla CEO, who is also the world’s wealthiest person, wanted to buy and privatize Twitter because he thinks it’s not living up to its potential as a platform for free speech.

Musk wished to make the service “better than ever” with new features, such as getting rid of automated “spam bots” and making its algorithms open to the public to increase trust. The participants had an open discussion on Elon Musk’s strategies that drive him to pursue big.
The session was interactive and informative.

Inspirational story about Muniba Mazari the "IRON LADY OF PAKISTAN"

An inspirational story was shared by Narmada Sadan P from B Com BA P2 in order to create a never giving up attitude among all, achieve their goals no matter what obstacles they face in life. 66 students from V P2 participated in the event. The story was connected to a women who was badly injured and got paralyzed after a fatal accident and her husband also too divorced her due to her inability to deliver a baby. But she did not give up and worked hard despite her inabilities and came to be known as the Iron Lady of Pakistan. She is Muniba Mazari who is a Pakistani activist, anchor artist, model, singer and motivational speaker. She became the National Ambassador for UN Women Pakistan after being shortlisted in the 100 Inspirational Women of 2015 by BBC. She also made it to the Forbes 30 under 30 list for 2016.

The session was motivational and inspiring.

She also shared insights on the skills required for workplace success. They included Communication skills, Strategic & Critical Thinking, Interpersonal Communication, Authenticity & Self-Awareness, Open-Mindedness & Creativity, Flexibility and the ability to adapt. She shared the inspirational stories of a few leaders who have made it big by their dedication, foresight and hard work. The session was interesting and inspiring.

Dealing with risks associated with fraud is on no bank’s wish list, but it is a fact – frauds are on the rise and will continue to rise, especially within the current business environment. While there is no doubt that banks are making investments to enhance their fraud risk management framework, monitoring systems and controls, however it appears that these efforts have not been sufficient. Gowri A S from B. Com ACCA presented on banking scandals. The aim of this session was to bring in awareness about banking frauds and its effects. This session was a brief presentation about India’s biggest bank fraud- ABG Shipyard Case which was declared India’s biggest bank fraud surpassing all other cases. The session was very much interactive and informative.

A presentation was conducted Prabhu.V student of B.com (BA) P2 on the Inspirational Story of College Dropout-Ashish Raj. The main objective of the presentation was to inspire students to do well in all their pursuits. Ashish Raj, hailing from Munger, Bihar managed to get past the life of a driver where he used to pick and drop people from the airport and is currently working as a software engineer at WebEngage. The speaker gave a brief of his background stating that he was the son of a farmer and Ashish’s family is not financially well-off. After finishing school, he moved to Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, for further education. His father spent his life savings for Ashish’s first year fee in college. Ashish took up a diploma in electrical engineering upon advice from friends and family, hoping that he would land a job in the government sector. But he was struggling to make his ends meet while in Bhopal. This is when Ashish stumbled upon a short-term (30-week) course in full-stack web development at Masai. He took the course in April 2020 and learned HTML, CSS, Javascript along with the MERN stack. He also built a clone of the professional networking website LinkedIn as part of his project work. After the course he got a job at WebEngage. His dreams don’t end here and he is on the quest for more. Never give up is the message that he would like people to learn from his own experiences. The session was interactive and beneficial for the students.

Money laundering is a financial crime that relies on stealth and flying under the radar. Understandably, detection poses a significant challenge in this field. Money laundering legislation have been created and implemented in countries all over the globe, and global organisations such as the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) regulate the global banking industry’s activities. Yet money laundering remains a threat and a phenomenon that is hard to track. Despite its incognito nature, there are some statistical insights available on this global crime that costs the world around USD 2 trillion every year. A session on Money Laundering was conducted by Bhavaya Nagar from VI Semester B.COM ACCA. The presenter spoke about the Banking giant HSBC which was fined £63.9m by the UK's financial regulator for "unacceptable failings" of its anti-money laundering systems. The speaker also covered some important aspects of the case including Introduction about HSBC Bank, Charges against HSBC money laundering case 2012, new era for HSBC bank, Anti-money laundering system and the shutdown of the case. The session was informative and interactive.

The session begins with the speaker giving the meaning of NFT and how they work and the best NFT’s to invest in. The session was concluded by taking a glance at the most popular and costliest NFTs which were sold in the previous year (2021). The session was highly informative and interactive.

He also shared news about the Former Amazon India Director Vijay Subramanian starting a new independent venture, where TATA to set foot in third party payment and about the oil trade between India and Russia as Major oil importing countries such as India and China have been grappling with higher crude prices, which have been soaring. An issue that plagues the lives of most students when they graduate is finding a job. After spending several years studying and carefully selecting ones majors, students, naturally, want to be able to get a good job that meets their needs. These requirements can be related to the industry they will eventually work in, the salary and compensation they will receive and the kinds of flexibility they will get in terms of timings.

Going down the traditional route of job hunting can be a tedious and cumbersome task — many recent graduates often struggle with having to send their CVs to several employers and never hearing back from them. Months are often spent tracking down good jobs through ones networks or university career fairs, often to no avail.

A session was conducted by Sadhana of B.Com P2 in order to create awareness on search engines for jobs and higher studies abroad. With the advent of websites and applications, the process of job hunting has become several times easier. By simply downloading an app to one’s phone, and with the touch of just a few buttons, students are able to find jobs in no time! In fact, surveys have found that 78% of Millennials used their mobile devices to find jobs as of 2016 and these figures are on an upward trajectory. She also shared information on the various appas that could be downloaded for jobseekers.

The speaker shared insights on the SHART Tank Show and how the programmer enlightened the viewer on new innovative ideas and the views expressed by the Sharks on Business Plan presentations. "Shark Tank" is a popular show on which investors (or Sharks) hear pitches from business owners who want funding from them. The show features a panel of investors called "sharks," who decide whether to invest as entrepreneurs make business presentations on their company or product. The sharks often find weaknesses and faults in an entrepreneur's product, business model or valuation of their company. The session concluded with playing a video of one of the popular Shark Tank session. The session would be helpful for preparing effective and workable Business Plan Presentations in the corporate world and to the budding entrepreneurs. The session was interactive and informative.

Russia-Ukraine War Face a New Tug of War in India

Ukraine's military says it carried out strikes against Russian positions on Snake Island, an outpost in the Black Sea, suggesting the use of longer-range weapons recently provided by Western countries. A session on Russia-Ukraine war face a new tug of war in India conducted by Sandesh, student of VI BCOM P2. 75 students from B.Com (BA) P2 participated in the session. The objective of this session was to enlighten the students about the plight of the Indian students in Ukraine. The speaker described that despite being enrolled in various educational institutions for undergraduate medical education in Ukraine, thousands of students had to leave their studies midway and return to India. Some students also participated in the discussion and shared their views on Russia and Ukraine standoff.

A session was conducted by the student Navyashree from VI BCom P2 (2019 Batch). The major topics of the discussion was the Karnataka SI Selection process. Speaker shared that Karnataka State Police Department (KSP) has recently announced its Karnataka Si selection process for the 402 vacancies of Sub-inspector. The candidate has to qualify in both - Endurance Test/Physical Standard Test (ET/PST) and Written Exam to be selected for the Karnataka SI post. The ET/PST requirements for male and female candidates were also shared.

In the case of the written exam, there are two papers - Paper-I and Paper-II for 50 marks and 150 marks respectively. Paper-I is of the descriptive type where the candidate must clearly prove his/her English comprehension and writing skills. Then, the candidate has to solve paper-II which has objective-type questions on Mental Ability and Current Affairs. The session was very informative and useful.

The main objective of this session was to bring in awareness on the effect of prices of crude oil due to Russia invasion on Ukraine. The speaker started with a brief background of the Russia – Ukraine war and over the loss of Russia's power and influence since the break-up of the Soviet Union in 1991 and the rise of the Crude oil prices during the build-up of Russia’s President Vladimir Putin’s special military operation in the Soviet-era constituent, Ukraine, backed externally by the US-dominated military alliance called NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization). The session was a thought provoking session and captured the attention of the students.

They discussed on various aspects like registration, examination, subjects to be prepared, online resources for various subjects. It proved to be a very informative session as the participants were able to clarify their doubts. The speakers urged the students to maintain a healthy study life balance.

Motivational Session on Breakthrough Towards Excellence

Objective: To enlighten the students on the importance of CA/CS courses and the ways of clearing CA foundations and CSEET.
It is a well-known fact that CA/CS exams are difficult to clear and the pass percentage of the number of students who cleared CA foundations or CSEET is considerably low and the dropout rate keeps increasing and many students aren’t registering themselves for further attempts. In this regard, a motivational session was conducted by the students of V BCOM P1 for their juniors i.e., III BCOM P1.

The speakers addressed the students on the importance of clearing the professional examination and encouraged them to continue their journey in the professional course. They also emphasised on subjects such as problem solving, systematic approach, time management and self-care.

Ad MADS" Equips Commerce Students with Creativity, Innovation, and Adaptability

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance proudly hosted the "Ad MADS" competition on February 21st, 2024, witnessing 28 enthusiastic teams battle it out through creative campaigns and strategic thinking. The teams were given a blank canvas: create a video ad within a minute, incorporating a brand's logo, tagline, jingle, and a message for first round. After a rigorous selection process, the top 12 teams’ finalists presented their advertising and marketing strategies to esteemed judges, showcasing their skills in campaign development, data analysis, and public speaking. Teams had 45 electrifying minutes to craft live, humorous ads.

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance at Kristu Jayanti College, Autonomous, Bengaluru, on February 19, 2024 organized a Skill Enhancement Programme entitled "Forex Trading,” exclusively for the final year P2, P3, and P4 Honour students. The final year students Roshan Thomas Varghese and Prem Kumar were the student speakers for the session. In a dedicated effort to empower aspiring event organizers with specialized insights and firsthand expertise the Department of Professional Accounting and Finance rolled out an event which unfolded as a unique and illuminating event. Mr. Rejoy John commenced the talk by emphasizing the importance of effective management in fest organization, highlighting the significance of meticulous planning, clear communication, and efficient delegation of tasks. He stressed the need for students to cultivate strong organizational skills to navigate the complexities of fest management successfully. Cluepinata : Literary Treasure Hunt

The Readers Island Club of the Department of Professional Accounting and Finance hosted an exhilarating intra collegiate literary treasure hunt called "Clue Pinata" on February 7th, 2024, attracting over 160 participants. Mr. Athul S Kumar, the student co-ordinator of the Readers Island Club, commenced the event with a warm welcome speech.The competition comprised of three rounds:

Lingo Logic: Participants tackled riddles and unscrambled the given words, with each question requiring a response within 20 seconds.
Riddle Raiders Round: This round featured questions drawn from literature, old fairy tales, and folklore.
Mind Maze Marathon: Teams were paired with volunteers who presented riddles. Correct answers led to clues about the next location, and teams raced throughout the college in a thrilling bid to complete the round quickly.

Buyology-Sellology- Business Plan Competition

On March 11th, 2024, the Department of Professional Accounting and Finance hosted first of its kind entrepreneurial competition, “Buyology-Sellology,"-Business Plan competition. An intra-collegiate business plan competition designed to cultivate essential business skills among students. The competition unfolded over three rounds, each meticulously designed to assess participants' competence in specific areas.

Round 1: Pen to Profit Teams were given a task to maximize profits through the sale of starter pens and strategically reinvesting their earnings. This round honed their salesmanship and decision-making capabilities in a dynamic environment.

Round 2: Dare To Start-up: Participants ventured into the realm of entrepreneurship. They conceptualized their dream company, outlining the industry, its purpose, and a corresponding business plan. Leveraging the profits generated in Round 1, students further developed a solution model, solidifying their understanding of business strategy.

Round 3: Prove Or Perish: The final round served as a culmination of the learnings acquired throughout the competition. Teams tackled a pre-determined problem by presenting their developed solution models. This stage emphasized their ability to not only conceptualize solutions but also demonstrate the prototyping process, showcasing their understanding of bringing ideas to life.

Model United Nation Conference

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance at Kristu Jayanti College was alive with diplomatic energy on 2nd February 2024, as they hosted their annual Model United Nations (MUN) conference. 185 student delegates, representing 129 countries, tackled pressing global issues through spirited debate and collaboration. Dr. Annie Stephen, Head of the Department, delivered the inaugural address, highlighting the event's importance in fostering leadership and diplomatic skills among students.

Four days of rigorous training sessions prepared the delegates to tackle complex issues within assigned committees. From climate change to global health, the discussions were lively and insightful, showcasing the participants' deep understanding of international affairs. The event culminated in a prestigious awards ceremony recognizing outstanding contributions. Awards were presented for Best Delegate, Best Position Paper, Best Press, and Best Chair, celebrating individual and team excellence.

This captivating event was driven by a dual purpose: nurturing students' personal development and instilling the winning strategies essential for successful festival participation. Students were also exposed to sessions on mock trading wherein they were instructed to purchase 100 shares each of different Companies. Students were then made to sell the shares for profit. Reader’s Island Club - Master of Words

The "Master of Words" competition, organized by the Department of Professional Accounting and Finance, took place on September 12, 2023, with the primary objective of improving the spelling and literary skills of the participants.

The competition comprised of three rounds: Word Play, Riddle Round, and Spellabrate. The first round, Word Play, was a written round where participants were tasked with correctly spelling words within a specified time frame. Those who qualified for the second round, the Riddle Round, faced 15 riddles that tested various aspects of literary knowledge. After careful evaluation, the top 5 finalists proceeded to the final round, Spellabrate, which was an oral round where participants had to verbally spell words. This round presented a higher level of difficulty, and the students demonstrated remarkable performance and competitive spirit throughout the competition.

The esteemed judges for the final round were Dr. Reenu Mohan and Dr. Nidhi Raj Gupta. All the finalists delivered exceptional performances in this round.

The title "Master of Words" was awarded to Vishnu Sharma, a first-year student from BCom Professional B. The second position was secured by Pranav Mohan, a final-year student from P2, and the third position was secured by Arujit Gour, a second-year student from BCom Business Analytics.

It involves difficulty in managing intense emotions, which can sometimes lead to harmful behaviors like self-harm. Suicide is a significant concern, with distinct stages that individuals may progress through as pain overwhelms their sense of connectedness and hope. Understanding these processes is crucial for effective intervention and support.

Ms.Tanisha was the resource person for the expert talk, an accomplished Counselling Psychologist with a stellar background in Clinical Psychology, holding an MSc from Christ University. With over 2 years of professional experience, she excels in addressing a diverse range of psychological challenges, including depression, anxiety, stress, and disruptive conditions.

A Blog Writing Competition has emerged as a remarkable platform for students to articulate their thoughts, opinions, and experiences. This competition not only fosters creative thinking but also cultivates effective communication skills, all while harnessing the power of the written word.

The College Blog Writing Competition stands as a testament to the power of expression within educational environments. It provides a platform for students to hone their writing prowess, share their insights with a broader audience, and contribute to meaningful conversations. Anti-Ragging Awareness Programme
Date: 12 to 18 August 2023
Ragging is any disorderly conduct, whether by words spoken or written, or by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness any student, indulging in indiscipline activities which cause or are likely to cause annoyance, hardship or psychological harm. ‘Anti-Ragging Awareness Programme’ was conducted from 12th August 2023 to 18th August 2023 with the aid of Power point presentations.

The Poster competition in commemoration of Anti – Ragging week was organized by the Department of Professional Accounting and Finance for I year B. Com Professional students. The event aims to raise awareness, provoke thought and encourage creative expression regarding the importance of maintaining a respectful and harassment-free educational atmosphere. The central theme of the competition revolves around anti ragging initiatives, creating a culture of mutual respect and upholding the dignity and well-being of every student. The Evaluation criteria was based on creativity, relevance, impact and Composition. The winners were announced and were given certificates.

An ‘Anti-Ragging Awareness Programme’ was conducted for the II year B.Com Professional students. The Second Year class animators addressed the students about the origin and menace of ragging and also explained the legal consequences of involvement in such activities. Documentary Screening was also projected after the awareness. The students also took the pledge not to involve themselves in ragging of any form and also to make the Institution Ragging free.

The Mime performance organized by the Department for the III year B.Com Professional students on account of the ‘Anti Ragging Week’, was conducted to shed light on the crucial issue that affects students across the globe. The main objective of the event was to put forth a message crystal clear- that there should be an end to the vicious cycle of ragging. The event took place at the Chavara Square with a massive attendance of students as it was a live open ground performance.

Skill Development Activity -Juego De Roles

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance enables the students in acquiring knowledge about the subject-related concepts and inculcate skills required for intellectual development. Role play is an activity where students get to imitate various real-life characters and showcase their presentation skills. The department provided a platform for experiential learning through Juego de roles to the students studying the Business regulatory framework. The event was organized on 4th May 2023 in the moot court at 11 am to understand the law concepts and develop decision-making and analytical skills. There were three teams that were provided three cases related to the Consumer protection act, Information Technology Act, and Competition Act. The students depicted the crime scene and the court scenes. The plaintiff, defender, attorneys, and judge executed their roles very well by putting forward their arguments. This activity helped the students to understand the law concepts and got an insight into the real world of litigation.

Clue Pinata – 2023
Date: 02 May 2023
The Readers Island club of the Department of Professional Accounting and Finance in its endeavor to develop the habit of book reading among the students organized Clue Pinata (Treasure Hunt) on 02.05.23. The First round was an online book quiz conducted on the 1st of May 2023. The second round was a written test wherein the participants were tested on their comprehension skills. The participants had to decrypt the phrases from the given set of pictures that depicted common phrases of the English Language. The third round was a memory test. A few items were displayed on the screen for 20 seconds, once the time was up they were asked to write down as many items as they could remember.

For the last round, student volunteers were stationed at various rendezvous points in the college campus – the basketball court, Admin block canteen, Chavara Square, Maggie point, etc. holding a clue essential for solving the hunt. Each team was assigned a volunteer who would accompany them to keep time. The teams were sent on the hunt in a staggered manner. The students enjoyed the event and it proved to be a fruitful learning platform for them.

Ready Set Co.

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance, Kristu Jayanti College (Autonomous) had organised a programme titled ‘Ready Set Co.’ hosted by the Festing Club. A programme to designed with the objective to develop various skills such as Problem-solving, Decision Making, Crisis Management, Financial Management and Public Relations. The first year as well as the second-year students displayed an array of attributes and healthy competition among the teams prevailed. The event also paved the way for discovering the inherent strengths and the areas that needed to be strengthened. The students participated in large numbers and beat their opponents with vigour and confidence. The ability to accept failure and the trait of perseverance embodied with team spirit and with a never give up attitude; the students challenged their own potentials seeking to win or wage a tough fight against the opponents. The event also gave them an opportunity to handle stress and the ability to multi-task. The event gave them a taste of a real-world experience augmenting their practical learning experience.

The event managed to engage the students, leading to learning that starts from their skyrocketing networking skills, understanding the nuances of how finances need to be managed and also an attitude of winning and never giving up attitude can build a variety of skills and be the perfect tool for practical learning. It is believed that life is a great teacher. Events such as these pose real-life scenarios and give the students an opportunity to position themselves for the same and find meaningful outcomes and solutions. Thus the event was a huge success.

“Shishtaachaar- A Session on Professional Ethics”

Professional ethics are principles that govern the behavior of a person or group in a business environment. Like values, professional ethics too provide rules on how a person interacts with other people. Professional ethics are important to any organization because they provide personal and professional benefits by regulating the actions of a profession and stipulating the virtues of such a profession. They also encourage teamwork and promote bonds between colleagues. They are designed to ensure that employees are behaving in a socially acceptable manner.

With this intent in mind, the Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organized “Shishtaachaar – A Session on Professional Ethics” for the IV Semester B. Com Students on 20th March 2023.

Dr. R. Sashikala NLP, counselor, expert trainer, and writer addressed the students on the topic of Professional Ethics and Etiquette The speaker shared tips on ways to deal with people in a professional manner. The session included tips on anger management, problem-solving in relationships, networking, and developing an adaptable mindset to connect and network with others at work and even otherwise.

Soft Skills Training Session on Time Management

The Centre for Soft Skills Training of Kristu Jayanti College (Autonomous), Bengaluru organized a seminar on Time Management for first-year B.Com. PAF students on 21st February 2023 at 11:00 am in the M1 Auditorium. The session aimed on emphasizing what is time, how we can manage our time efficiently along with its approaches, how procrastinating some important things in life could have a big impact, the concept of Timeboxing, and the steps on how to timebox. The session started with a silent prayer, and a welcome address by Ms. Riyana E, Student Coordinator – CSSAT followed by the introduction of the resource person by Mr. Jingle Jiju, II B.Com PAF who handed over the session to the resource person. Prof. Suku Thomas Samuel, the resource person of the event addressed the students by first asking what they think about the definition of time. Many students answered by saying that, Time is a Resource and it’s precious, as once the time is gone, it never comes back for anyone. The resource person also informed us that some people accomplish many things in their 24 hours, while others don’t accomplish much. He also taught that time management means making the best use of the available time along with its approaches where our approach to time management is logical, but the reality of the approach is that it is an emotional decision.

He also discussed the Time management theories (1st dimensional approach, 2nd dimensional approach, and the 3rd dimensional approach, notably Sir saying that the 3rd dimensional approach is the best approach to be used today). Afterward, Sir talked about the 2007 Meta-Analysis published in Psychological Bulletin which found that almost 80 to 95% of college students procrastinated regularly, particularly when it came to completing assignments and coursework. He told us how students tend to overestimate how much time they have left to perform tasks, overestimate how motivated they will be in the future, and overestimate how long certain activities take to complete. Next, Sir explained a new concept of Time-Boxing which meant allocating a fixed and maximum unit of time to activity along with the steps on how to time-box (Finding Suitable Tasks, Defining your Goals, Setting the Time, Working and Assessing the Results, and Claiming your Reward at the End). The session ended with a vote of thanks from Mr. Jephin James.

Students gained insights regarding Time Management. During the session, students interacted actively and gathered information on how to manage time effectively along with approaches, how to overcome procrastination, and the concept of the time box followed by its steps. This session has helped the students to understand the importance of Time management, Time-Boxing along with what impact some decisions of procrastination can make in our lives.

Anokha - Corporate Walk

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance conducted an event titled Anokha – Corporate Walk. Anokha means Unique. This event replicated the Corporate Fashion walk and the main aim of the event is to set a vision/goal for the future.

Participants chose the profession of their choice and were asked to express their mission statement and also express why they chose a particular profession. Diverse professions were showcased ranging from auditors to photographers and also fitness enthusiasts. The event comprised three rounds. The first round was judged based on their confidence and their choice of profession, mission statement which included a one-minute speech on their chosen profession, and also their resumes.

The second round was a face-off round wherein real-life scenarios were thrown open and the participant’s ready wit, spontaneity, and critical as well as logical skills were put to test. The round involved an element of stress too. The crisis management skills were also adjudged by the jury members.

Department of Economics has organized a Hands-on Training on Virtual stock trading for the Students of BA and MA Economics on the sixth of February. The Resource Person was Dr.K Kiran Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Accounting and Finance, KristuJayantiCollege, Autonomous, Bengaluru The resource person opined that virtual trading is similar to actual trading where one can buy and sell stocks wherein no real money is involved. He focused on virtual trading facilities, stock simulators, and other aspects of the Virtual stock markets. The session ended with an Interface session wherein the Resource Person answered all the Quires of the Participants.

Research Report
Date: 04 February 2023
Pursuit of a Research Project in a corporate organization and submission of a Research Project Report pertaining to a live/latest business problem/issue of the organization is a mandatory requirement for fulfillment of the B. Com Programme. This Research Project exposes the student’s real-life business issues and helps them to acquire a research mindset. The students are required to submit the project report demonstrating their work on the organizational study. The projects aim to provide an understanding of the functional operation of an organization as well as the application of multidisciplinary concepts, tools, and techniques to solve organizational problems. The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance conducted the Mock Viva-Voce on 2nd February 2023 for 2020-23 batch students. The Final Viva-Voce was conducted on 4th February 2023 by 22 external examiners of various colleges in Bangalore. The students had an excellent learning experience the experience paved the way for fostering critical thinking and analytical skills through hands-on learning and Expanding knowledge and understanding of a chosen field outside of the classroom.

Digital Spartans

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance, Kristu Jayanti College (Autonomous) arranged a Skill Development Activity on Digital Poster, Photography, and Reels through different applications like Canva, VN, etc.

The session began with a brief orientation on the importance of digital skills in the modern world. The students were given an orientation on the do's and don'ts of poster making. The Creative Team Leaders briefed the students on how they were expected to capture pictures and make reels for social media. The time allotted for the session was 30 minutes. This included depicting their proficiency in photography under the following topics: Landscape, Portrait, Street View, Subject photography.

They were also given raw video footage of videos captured earlier and the participants were asked to present original reels. The students put up a good show and competed fiercely against each other. The Faculties in charge of the event were Dr. Kiran Kumar & Dr. Nidhi Raj Gupta.

Creating LinkedIn Profile

LinkedIn provides one with the ability to showcase it and serves as the first professional impression for recruiters and employers.

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organized a session on “Creating a LinkedIn Profile” for II-year BCom students. The resource person was Mr. Suku Samuel, Assistant Professor, at Kristu Jayanti College.

The speaker started the session by stressing on the need and importance of creating a LinkedIn profile in the digital era. The speaker gave a brief on LinkedIn and how it helps in professional growth. He also emphasized on creation of a Personal brand and the steps to transform it into a brand. The session also gave tips on the do’s and don’t’s of using a LinkedIn profile and the mode of connecting with friends, recruiters, and also the Alma matter. The session was especially useful for the students planning to take up placements in the near future.

The interactive session ended with a Q & A.

Workshop on Virtual Audit Experience in Financial Audit

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organized a workshop on “Virtual Audit Experience in Financial Audit” on 17th January 2023 from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm for the Ist year B Com International Business and Finance students. Mr. Akhshay K Chopda –CMA, ACCA addressed the students.

The main objective of the session was to give the students hands on experience on audits. The speaker outlined the different aspects of audit procedures in a company. Various online platforms and websites that provide professional courses free of cost were shared with the students. Mr.Chopda spoke of Swiss Audit that offers certification programmes. The sub topics under Swiss Audit like ordinary audit, limited audit and no audit required by law were also briefed by the speaker. The session was followed by a practical demonstration session. The speaker shared his expertise on the subject Strategic Planning and also shared the importance of having a LinkedIn profile.

The session was informative and interactive.

Skill Development Lecture “Flip the Script for Success”

In today’s competitive world job-hunting has become a truly adventurous task. To get a desired job, students have to participate in the rat race of qualified, highly-qualified and experienced or fresh candidates. To succeed in this race, drafting an appropriate resume and presenting their candidature is a crucial challenge. Hence, in order to overcome this challenge and to be successful in their career a skill development lecture was organised by the department. Mr. Kaarthik Subramaniyan was invited as the resource person.

The chief guest took over the session by explaining about the importance of resume, the right format to be chosen, how to prepare an objective, present the skills, achievements, project details and many more. Sir, has also provided information on how to answer the questions related to the areas of their strengths and weaknesses. Sir highlighted about the three different formats of resume according to the job profile along with writing a covering letter or a mail.

Sir concluded the session by stating that job recruiters scrutinise and select an applicant whose resume stands out in the competition. Hence, it is the ‘first impression’ that needs skill, time, and efforts from the aspiring candidates to keep it updated, specific, impressive, well-crafted and suitable for a particular position. The session has helped the students to gain practical exposure on effectively presenting their credentials in their resume.

The Secrets to Effective Relationships

Relationships are a cornerstone of happiness and living a full life. Relationships should be seen as a valuable investment. Different aspects of life can be enriched through relationships. The more we understand how relationships work, the more we can grow from them. To develop the values for effective relationship management the Department of Professional Accounting and Finance, Kristu Jayanti College (Autonomous), organized an expert talk on 12th September 2022 for the Second year B.Com students of P1,P2,P3 and P4 on the topic ‘The Secrets To Effective Relationships’

Dr. Alice Aloysius, Student Counsellor, Kristu Jayanti College and the resource person of the session discussed the importance and essentials of a good relationship. Dr. Alice elaborated on the various kinds of relationships. She discussed the seven signs of healthy relationships as well as the killers of effective relationships. Dr. Alice stressed on the need of having a friend and highlighted the various ways to reset the broken relations.

Commerce Club
Date: 26th March 2022
Joel chaired the meeting, which began with the case studies presented on Wednesday. The case study subjects were as follows:
1)India's Economic Challenge
2)Celebrity CEO start-ups
3)Ashneer Vs. BharatPe
Rohan provided a summary of his thoughts on all the case studies.
Returning to the meeting, they spoke about Monetary Policy Company, Accommodative Stance, Calibrated Tightening, and Hawking.

Aayush discussed the offline and online concepts associated with start-ups. He touched on Celebrity CEOs such as Elon Musk; recently whose Tesla had its price fall and investors lost almost $5 billion. When market prices decline, impoverished people's pensions suffer. Billionaires are engaging in reckless behavior, and it is time to investigate.

The second session included group discussions, presentations, and debate. On the issue between Ashneer and BharathPe, two teams were formed. They were given 20 minutes to discuss on how to prove their points. A task was assigned to each team.

Team 1 was tasked with creating a PowerPoint presentation on how to rebrand the company.
Team 2 was tasked to issue a statement as Ashneer after being forced to resign.
Ananya represented the BharathPe team. BharathPe is rising from a crisis.
Sharanya represented the Ashneer team. After being compelled to quit, he issued the following statement.

Ananya and Rohan brought the one-hour intense conversation to a conclusion.
Theertha announced the winners after a long evaluation at the end of the two-hour meeting. Team Ashneer was victorious. Identifying each team's strengths and weaknesses, as well as suggestions for enhancing future conversations.

Skill Enhancement Programme on ‘New Enterprise Creation: Procedures and Formalities’
Kristu Jayanti College, Bengaluru always thrives to cater to the all-round development of their students. The main focus of the institution has always been to encourage young, dynamic and enthusiastic minds to raise their voice on pertinent issues and play the role of change maker in society. The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organized skill enhancement programme on new enterprise creation: Procedures and formalities by Mr. P K Thomas.

Mr. PK Thomas is an entrepreneur and an academician with more than 29 years of experience, of which around 18 years in corporate sector and the rest with entrepreneurial activities and academia. He is associated with JAIN (Deemed to be University), St. John’s Medical College and other reputed Business Schools. The programme was conducted under the guidance of the coordinator Dr. Annie Stephen, FCA and Dr. J. Poornima along with the consistent efforts of the student coordinators. Mode of conducting the session was via zoom.

The speaker primarily spoke on the various forms of enterprises and the procedures for setting up enterprises. The speaker threw light on the statistics of start-ups worldwide and also emphasised on the need of startups in India. It helped students in developing concepts for evaluating a personal entrepreneurial strategy potential and to pursue an enterprise through a business plan, and determine whether the strategy can create a good fit and work out an an attractive risk-reward balance. The session was informative and helpful to the students. The session concluded with a Vote of Thanks.

Yale to Tale : Online Anchoring Competition

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance , Kristu Jayanti College (Autonomous) conducted an online anchoring competition for the first semester B.Com Professional students titled ‘Yale to tale ’ on 2nd October 2021.The aim of the competition was to provide an opportunity for the students to exhibit their public speaking skills . Thirty students actively participated in the event by creating a one minute video on the given theme and uploaded in the link given. The winners were selected on the basis of creativity, fluency and voice modulation.

MUN 2021 Igniting Economic Growth
The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organized a Model United Nations (MUN) on 12th November 2021. The theme was “Igniting Economic Growth, One Debate at a time”. MUN is an academic simulation of the real United Nations where the students play the role of delegates from different countries and attempt to solve real world issues. There were five committees in this MUN, United Nations Security Council (UNSC), Social and Humanitarian Council (SOCHUM), International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Trade Organization (WTO) and Economical and Financial Committee (ECOFIN).

The MUN started with the inaugural session, where our principal, Rev. Fr. Dr Augustine George gave us an insight about how important leadership and teamwork is. Later, the delegates were asked to go to their respective committees. The session started with roll call and general speakers list, following which Moderated caucuses, Unmoderated Caucus, resolution drafting, voting procedures and crisis took place. The delegates were very well prepared with the information regarding their agenda and their countries. The MUN ended with the valedictory ceremony, where the winners were felicitated.

Session on “Union Budget- Direct Taxation”
The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organized a session on “Union Budget- Direct Taxation” on 5th February 2022. Growth-oriented and pro-development, India’s Union Budget 2022-23 lay down the its plan for the economy for the next 25 years. Despite repeated waves of the COVID-19 infection, supply-chain disruptions and inflation, the Indian economy is expected to register a growth rate of 9.27 per cent in the current financial year, implying that the overall economic activity has recovered from the pre-pandemic levels. The Union Budget 2022-23 revolved around four key pillars including Inclusive Development, Productivity Enhancement, Financing Investments and PM GatiShakti.

The budget took a transformative approach to boost economic growth and sustainable development driven by its seven engines such as - Mass Transport, Waterways, Railways, Roads, Airports, Ports, and Logistics Infrastructure. However, with all its lush green initiatives, the question remains – what is there for the common man, a question that still lingers in the minds of the people.In the education sector the budget focused on the skill development and provision of world-class education to students across the country for the education sector by the launch of a digital ecosystem for skilling and livelihood (DESH-Stack e-portal). Therefore, an insightful session of Budget 2022 was planned to discuss the highlights of the Budget especially with regard to Income Tax. The session was conducted through the zoom platform. The resource persons Mr. Sudhakar Giridharan and Mr. Mahadevan R , Chartered Accountants covered various areas of changes in direct taxations such as virtual digital assets, foreign-sourced dividends, slab rates and more. The session was informative and resourceful.

Cyber Law and Cyber Crime Case Laws

Department of professional accounting and finance, Kristu Jayanti College (Autonomous), organized a Skill development lecture on 9th February 2022 for the final year B.Com students. The issue of Cyber Crimes is emerging as a big challenge around the world and India is no exception. With its growing economy, the huge IT industry is very attractive for organized cyber criminals to target India and its citizens. Prof.Mahesh S Betasur, Assistant Professor, Kristu Jayanti College of Law,the resource person for the session discussed various kinds of cybercrimes occurring in recent times and precautions to be taken while usage of internet. The procedure to file against cybercrimes was also discussed. Instances of cyber bullying, data theft and encrypted data that have occurred in the recent times were also shared. As the youth are generally vulnerable to cybercrimes, the session also entailed ways in which one could avoid becoming a victim of cybercrimes were discussed at length. The National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (www.cybercrime.gov.in), enabled the public to report incidents pertaining to all types of cyber-crimes, with a special focus on cyber-crimes against women and children. The session was informative and an eye opener for the attendees.

Viva Voce Examination for Final Year Students

On this significant day, students underwent a rigorous assessment process, facing a panel of experienced faculty members and industry professionals. Each student was given the opportunity to present a comprehensive account of their internship experiences, elucidating the challenges encountered, solutions implemented, and the impact of their experiences on their professional growth. The Viva Voce format allowed for a nuanced evaluation, covering key aspects such as project understanding, problem-solving skills, communication proficiency, industry knowledge, and professionalism. As these students embark on the next phase of their careers, the Internship Viva Voce examination stands as a pivotal moment in shaping their readiness for the challenges of the professional world.

Skill Development in Business Economics

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organized a skill development session on “BUSINESS ECONOMICS” on 26th April 2023 for the Ist year B Com P4 and P7 students. Dr. Aakash Kumar, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Professional Accounting and Finance addressed the students.

The main objective of the session was to make the students aware of consumer surplus, price output determination, and markets. The speaker discussed the various types of markets and their use and application in everyday life. The talk provided students with in-depth knowledge of the topics covered and their application in the economic and business world.

It was an interactive session among the students and the session concluded after clearing the queries of the students.

Guest Lecture on Behavioural biases

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance conducted a Skill Development Activity for final year Honours students of the Department. The session was conducted on 17th November 2022and the resource person was Prof Aneesha K Shaji, Assistant Professor, Kristu Jayanti College.

The speaker presented an interactive session to the students on the various aspects of Behavioural Finances and emphasised on the Behavioural biases of investors. The speaker started the session on providing an understanding on the origin of behavioural finance. She continued her session with providing the differences between behavioural finance and traditional finance. The key concepts and definitions of various terminologies under behavioural finance were emphasised. The speaker also spoke on the various types of behavioural biases and its impact on the decision making of investors. Prof. Aneesha shared some live examples and real life situations to emphasise the impact of emotional bias on an investor.

It was an informative and enlightening session.

Soft Skills Training Session on Essentials of Personality

Centre for Soft Skills & Aptitude Training (CSSAT), Kristu Jayanti College, Bengaluru organized a Soft Skills Training Seminar “Essentials of Personality” for Second Year B.COM PFA students on 8th November 2022. The session aimed at personality enhancement representing different ways of thinking.

Dr. Geethu Anna Mathew, the resource person addressed the gathering and took the participants through a small activity that was reciprocated with enthusiasm. Students gained insights regarding personality enhancement. During the session, students interacted actively and gathered information on how to face situations and problems from a different perspective.

Soft Skills Training Session on Presentation Ninja

Centre of Soft Skills Training of Kristu Jayanti College, Bengaluru organized a seminar on “Presentation Ninja” for First Year B.Com PAF students on 7th November 2022 at 1:40 pm in M1 Auditorium. The session aimed at the enhancement of public speaking traits and overcoming stage fear with the help of coding and decoding method. The session started with a silent prayer and a brief introduction by Ms. Riyana E who introduced Dr. Nidhi Raj Gupta, the Resource person and handed over the session to her. Dr. Nidhi Raj Gupta addressed the gathering and took the participants through a coding and decoding quiz, wherein most of the participants put forward their responses enthusiastically. The resource person also announced few surprises as goodies on every right response. She introduced the Ninja Techniques through “Vada Pavs”, which is a code for public speaking skill. Then after, she talked about stage fear and gave practical solutions keeping students in mind. The session ended with a Vote of Thanks by Ms. Nafiya H.

Through the seminar, students gained comprehensive insights regarding “Public Speaking”. During the session, they interacted actively and gathered information on how to tackle stage fear and how to overcome on-spot mistakes and problems from a different perspective. This session helped the students to understand the importance of public speaking and enhance problem solving and decision-making skills.

Dare to Startup
Date: 15th September 2022
The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance conducted “Dare to Start-up” product launch competition for the III and V semesters students. It was an activity conducted in commemoration of World Entrepreneurs Day for the academic year 2022- 2023. “Dare to start up” was a product launch competition wherein participants were required to pitch in their product ideas amidst a set of judges. The theme for startup was Sustainability. The event judging criteria was Innovation, Sustainability, Creativity, Novelty and Presentation. Approximately 21 teams had registered for the event and 10 teams made it to the final round after eliminations. The teams displayed a tough fight and came up with innovative and unique product initiation ideas. He event was conducted on the framework of one of the most popular TV shows - Shark Tank. The alumni’s Mr Joel Kuruvilla and Jestina acted as judges for the event with the students’ coordinators’ of the event acting upon rebuttals. The event was also conducted with the aim of developing skills in the advances learners and granting a platform to the budding entrepreneurs to brainstorm enterprising ideas.

Innovation Incubation and Business Acceleration

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organized a Seminar on “Innovation Incubation and Business Acceleration” on 12th September 2022 for the first year B. Com Professional students.

Dr. Muruganantham A - Director Kristu Jayanti Incubation Centre and Prof. Stephen Deepak - Vice President, Institution’s Innovation Council addressed the students. The main objective of the programme was to make students aware of the importance of Pre-Incubators, Incubators and Accelerators, fostering innovation and entrepreneurial skills. Dr.Muruganantham enlightened the students about the procedure of start-ups and whom to approach in case of any difficulty in the incubation process. He explained the role played by KJIC in helping young entrepreneurs. He also gave information about the collaboration of KJIC to Universities, Government aided programme & missions.

Prof. Stephen Deepak emphasized the need to start early as an entrepreneur as it would give way to more opportunities. The speaker gave a gist of benefits of being incubated at KJIC and how an ecosystem is provided for budding startups. He gave a glimpse of the plan for upcoming events namely Idea Olympics National Innovation Contest, Business Proposal and more. Insights were given by speakers about companies already being incubated at Kristu Jayanti Incubation Centre and about their growth. The session witnessed an engaging participation

Orientation on “Career Planning and the Way Forward”

Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organised orientation programme on “Career Planning and the Way Forward” on 18th May 2022 in Room No B308, Admin Block for the second and third year B.Com CMA aspirants. Mr.Uttam Pai, CMA,CPA addressed the students. Ms.Honey Rai, General Manager, Human Resources- Miles Education and Ms. Rhea Mariam Zenu, Manager- Academics and Student Relations also addressed the students

The main objectives of the programme was to make the students aware of the importance of clearing CMA exams pursuing graduation. The lecture threw light on the benefits of completing the CMA exams before graduation. Mr.Uttam Pai discussed with the CMA aspirants the methods to make efficient use of the study material provided, the study pattern of students and tips on exam preparation. The speaker motivated the students by sharing his own experience in exam preparation. Mr.Pai also mentioned the importance of being familiar with all the current affairs of the business world and being confident holistic individuals who are able to convince employers of their ability to perform the work required by them.

The session concluded with Q & A wherein Mr.Uttam Pai, the resource person, clarified all the queries raised by the students

Student Development Programme

The National Education Policy (NEP)-2020 envisions an education system rooted in Indian ethos that contributes directly to transforming India sustainably into an equitable and vibrant knowledge society by providing high quality education to all and thereby, making India a global knowledge superpower. In order to orient the students on the intricacies of the NEP curriculum, a session was conducted for the 2021 Batch students. The session was addressed by the Dean, Faculty of Commerce and Management, Dr. Aloysius Edward J. During the session, the speaker threw light on the multiple exit points, credit systems, holistic purview of NEP and the various components such of the curriculum such as DSC, DSE, VOC, OE, SEC were touched upon.

The session ended with a Q & A. It was an informative and enriching session.

Orientation Programme Navigation through Specialization

The Department of Professional Accounting & Finance was conducted an orientation Program on “Navigation through Specialization” for the 2nd year B.Com Professional Students in continuation of the Research Project and course specialization. The session commenced with a silent prayer. Dr. Annie Stephen emphasized on how important the research project is to enrich the student’s corporate exposure and help them get a clear picture on how to move ahead on the same. Dr. J. Poornima highlighted on all the important aspects, key points and resource availability of each and every specialization. She put a light on the fact of how important it is to stick with the specialization and choose a related topic. At the end of the session the students were able to understand their Research project and specialization in detailed manner. The Session was concluded with a Q&A session to clarify the student’s queries regarding to the specializations and their procedure.

Guest Lecture on – “CAREER PROSPECTS”
The Chartered Accountancy qualification opens the door to a vast range of exciting career opportunities, in every sector of business and finance, both in India and internationally. Hence, in order to enlighten the students on the importance of Chartered Accountancy course and the future prospects, an expert lecture was organised, Mr.Georgy Mathew FCA, Senior Partner, Varma & Varma Chartered Accountants, Bengaluru was invited as the resource person.

The chief guest addressed the students on the importance of the course, and the pattern of the professional examinations. He also stated that the Chartered Accountants were in constant demand both in India and abroad, being recognised for their technical competence, professional standards and veracity. Becoming a Chartered Accountant combines innovative education with mentored work experience, to produce accountants who possess a greater ability to analyse and interpret business problems and develop dynamic solutions. He highlighted that perhaps that’s why Chartered Accountants have the edge over their counterparts: they rise further and faster into more diverse and important roles in organisations.

The resource person concluded by highlighting that no other career offers the mobility that a Chartered Accountancy qualification does. They take on the role of a business advisor, who makes high-level strategic decisions, aimed at driving business, improving profit margins and increasing market share for their clients / employers. Many Chartered Accountants also use their expertise to form their own businesses, becoming highly successful entrepreneurs.

Career Enhancement Prorgamme - Personal Interview

The hallmark of a Personal Interview is the one to one or direct interaction between the candidate and the interviewer. Therefore, it is important that the students are well versed with the technicalities of the round and prepare themselves well for the HR Round / Personal Interview Round. The Personal Interview round can be a daunting task especially we one attends the interview unprepared. A session was conducted for the students to share tips for attending interviews. The session also included the most frequently asked questions at Interviews and the ways to effectively answer the questions. Some of the tips shared with the students included wearing formal attire, being well groomed, wearing a smile, positive body language, research about the company and the role offered and the skills essential to be a right role fit. A right mind set, eye contact, body language, confidence levels, attitude and willingness to adapt to the corporate culture are some of the traits looked for in candidates applying for interviews. To help students prepare for the questions asked during interviews, the speaker shares the FAQs at interviews and the best ways in which one could answer the questions with confidence and clarity of thought. Few of the FAQs that were discussed are : Tell us about yourself, What are your strengths and weaknesses, Where do you see yourself in 5 years, Have you held any leadership positions in the past, Why should we hire you, What re your future plans, Can you work under pressure and Do you have any questions

Although there are no right or wrong answers, an answer that conveys something about an individual that doesn’t match the Interviewers expectations can lead to an adverse situation. Therefore it is essential that the students rehearse and prepare themselves to face the round.

Career Enhancement Prorgamme - Group Discussion

GD is a discussion that tests the candidate's skills, such as leadership skills, communication skills, social skills and behavior, politeness, teamwork, listening ability, General awareness, confidence, problem-solving skills, etc.

Dr. Lourdunathan F. The Group Discussion is generally the next level after the entrance exam to pursue a professional degree. In the case of recruitments, Group Discussion can be the starting or at the end, depending on different companies or organizations.

It is not fixed that the group discussion is always performed around the table. People can sit in any arrangement, but everyone should be able to see every face. It is not only the usual discussion, but it is also a discussion with knowledge and skill.

It is a well-known fact that GD (Group Discussion) round are difficult to clear and the percentage of number of students who cleared GD is considerably low and the dropout rate keeps increasing and many students get demotivated and they don’t try to learn from their mistake. In this regard, a Goup Discussion session was conducted by the Department for students of IV semester BCOM. Department of Professional Accounting and Finance, Kristu Jayanti College (Autonomous), organized a Career enhancement programme on 9th February 2022 for the second year B.Com students. Students require skills and knowledge in the business sector to help them position themselves for a successful career. To answer this demand a session was organized to enhance the confidence of the students to face the placement process of various companies. Dr.Reenu Mohan, Assistant Professor, Department of Professional Accounting and finance explained the selection procedures in corporate and the various types of rounds involved. She threw light on skills sought by employers in the selection procedure. Dr. Reenu gave insights about how to prepare oneself for group discussion, aptitude tests and pre interview. The students found the session very helpful and motivating as their queries were resolved at the end of the session.

Placement Orientation and Training Program

The Placement season unwraps a feeling of anxiety and fear among those aspiring to get placed. The need to be adequately prepared for the unknown and brace up to match the expectations of the industry is a mandate. It is with this intention that the department of Professional Accounting and Finance organized a session on Placement Orientation and Training Programme. The resource person for the session was Prof. Sen B.Mathew , Director of CECR , Kristu Jayanti college who addressed the students and explained the process of Placements. He began the session by the introduction of CECR (Centre for Employability and Corporate relations) as a unit that facilitates and nurtures the aspirations of the candidates. He emphasized on a Sell-Match-Leadership concept and students were encouraged to empower themselves by creating their own brand. In an era of unmatched competition, the need for skilling, up skilling and reskilling is undebatable. Tips on how to prepare and present oneself at interviews were also shared at the session.

The 5C’s that stand for Choice, Collaboration, Communication, Critical thinking and Creative thinking were also discussed. Insights on the Do’s and Don’ts in personnel interviews, Resume building and Group Discussions were shared in a nutshell. The session was lively and interactive.

Project Orientation - II

Research project is obviously a challenging and rewarding experience, it is an opportunity that helps the students to pursue an in-depth original study about the topic which interests the student. Helps them experience leadership and application of classroom knowledge in a real time environment.

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organized the Project Orientation-II on 15th February 2022 for Second Year B.Com students. Dr. J. Poornima commenced the session by giving an overview of the previous discussion followed by a doubt solving session. The resource person communicated the instructions that had to be followed by students in every step of the Research. The students were explained on how to select the research topic and organisation based on their specialisations and synopsis preparation, followed by the projection of formats of the contents of the Research project and the chapters that had to be submitted by the students in the course of the project under the guidance of the Faculty guide.

The session was concluded by delivering a complete idea of the Research Project followed by a Q&A session to clarify the student’s queries regarding the various aspects of the Research Project.

Reorientation on Jayantian Code of Conduct and Online Etiquette

The department of Professional Accounting and finance organized reorientation session on Jayantian code of conduct and online class etiquettes for first years, second years and third years students on 24th January 2022. The students were oriented by the faculties towards academic excellence, student behavior and culture, leave application procedure, extra curricular activities during this semester and online certification courses .The session also included guidelines about netiquettes to be followed during online classes and guest lectures. The session was helpful in giving the students a right start for the academic year and providing a clarity on the on the Jayantian culture and values.The sessions were conducted by the following faculties:

Workshop on Preparing for Work Life

The present world is constantly changing and how each individual can stand unique with their communication and intellectual ability. In this regard, a workshop was organized on “Preparing for Work life” was found apt and hence this programme was organised for the I semester students of the Department.

Mr. Ashin Paul, the resource person addressed the students and spoke about the importance of knowing oneself and how to cope up with failure and pursue their dreams with determination. He also emphasized on the communication skills and some key techniques on how to build their communication skills. The resource person also spoke on the evolution of the workforce and the skills sets required for the present age. He emphasized on acquiring interpersonal discipline, learning new things each day, experimenting new things and learning how to communicate effectively. The session was interactive and useful.

NEP 2020 - Curriculum Framework
Date: 15th November, 2021
Dr. Aloysius Edward, Dean of Commerce and Management explained the importance and role of National education policy in revamping of Higher Education. He narrated an inspirational story of a carpenter and stated that the students are the architects of their life, hence they need to decide their destiny by themselves. He elaborated on the curriculum framework of NEP-2020 and discussed the entry and exit policies. He discussed the semester wise credit schemes of the BCom programme. The session concluded with vote of thanks by Assistant Prof. Litty M.

Reorientation on Jayantian Culture and Code of Conduct

A re-orientation session was organized for the first-year students of the Department of Professional Accounting and Finance on 15th November 2021. The session began with prayer song by the department choir. Dr.Annie Stephen, Head of the Department welcomed the students to the campus and introduced the faculties and facilities of the department. She explained the rules regarding campus discipline, class behaviour and dress code to be followed by the students. The students were informed about attendance and leave policies, scholarship schemes, various centres and committees of the college.

National webinar on Insurance Industry in Pandemic Times – Present and Future

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance, Kristu Jayanti College (Autonomous), Bengaluru, organized a national webinar on “Insurance Industry in Pandemic Times – Present and Future” on 25th September, 2021. The objective of conducting this webinar was to understand the impact of Covid-19 on the insurance sector and to practically enlighten the students regarding the functioning of insurance industry.

Mr.T.L.Aarunachalam, Director & Head-Cyber and Emerging Risks Practice, Bharat Re-Insurance Brokers Pvt. Ltd. India, was the resource person of the Webinar. More than 600 participants, including the learned professionals from various other institutions all over India participated in the webinar. Mr.T.L.Aarunachalam, highlighted that the importance of Insurance coverage claimimg that the pandemic had given us all a reality check. He stated that the life insurance claims increased 5-10 times post the 2nd wave, while general insurance like motor insurance etc., have witnessed a dip. He also shared about the recent developments and trends in the insurance sector. The career opportunities and courses offered in the field of Insurance were discussed. Several queries came up for discussion and the speaker addressed all the queries.The session was informative and interactive.

Natioanl Webinar on Creating Value through Corporate Restructuring
The outburst of the pandemic has caused a series of unprecedented challenges for the economy. Companies are grappling with significant disruptions and uncertainties in managing their business. Corrective actions are therefore imperative for traversing through such challenges such as foreseeable losses, disrupted supply chains, liquidity crisis and other risks. It would be important to accordingly, revisit and re-think strategy for restructuring opportunities to align businesses for their survival and resurgence.

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organised a National Webinar on “Creating Value through Corporate Restructuring" on 31st August, 2021.The resource person for the webinar, Shri. Sudhakar Giridharan, partner at 4-i Services, touched-base on various restructuring opportunities that businesses can opt for in order to revive and recoup from the disruptions caused by the pandemic. The webinar was conducted from 5:30 p.m. to 6:40 p.m. and was organized through the zoom platform and 540 participants joined the session. After the session, feedback was collected from attendees on the effectiveness of the session. Overall the session was informative and apt in the current state of affairs.

Orientation on CA Foundation Course

The professional courses such as CA/CS have been one of the most sought after career options for students, specifically in the Finance domain. On one hand, these professional courses are considered to be the most prestigious courses and on the other hand, the professional courses aren’t a cake walk either. There has been a tectonic shift in what the corporates and recruiters are looking for and hence a pressing need for our students to realize and align themselves with the paradigm shift was found to be the need of the hour.

It becomes imperative therefore to orient the students about the course and the way forward. The department of Professional Accounting and Finance conducted an orientation program for the students highlighting the future prospects of the course and the importance of the course in building competence and growth.

Project orientation

Research Project is important for the students to nurture conceptual, analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills. Interns not only gain technical knowledge within the industry of their choice, but they also learn how to interact with professionals in a workplace setting, and develop essential soft skills like time management, organization, adaptability, problem-solving and teamwork.

Department of Professional Accounting and Finance was organized the Project orientation on 7th February 2022 for Second Year B.Com students. The orientation program was facilitated by Dr. J.Poornima Assistant Professor, Department of Professional Accounting and Finance. Participants were oriented about the provision & criteria of Research Project, steps of Project Report writing, Pre & Post preparation and activities, Marks distribution for each individual part of the Research Project, as well as the time schedule provided for its completion. The session concluded with an open discussion wherein the queries raised by the students were clarified.

Minute to Win it

The Speculators Club, part of the Professional Accounting and Finance Department at Kristu Jayanti College, orchestrated an engaging event dubbed "MINUTE TO WIN IT" on April 4th, 2024. This event served as an innovative platform for students to delve into the realms of commerce and finance through interactive games, quizzes, and entertainment. Its primary objective was to cultivate financial literacy, strategic acumen, and collaborative prowess among participants, all within an enjoyable setting.

The initial phase of the event featured a variety of games, with 13 groups consisting of 4 members each. Tasks included challenges like the cotton ball challenge, cup stacking, bottle flip challenge, among others. The top 6 performing teams advanced to the second round, which centered on testing students' industry knowledge. This segment encompassed activities such as logo identification, word formation, and quizzes, serving as the basis for determining the winners. Teams engaged in spirited competition, tackling trivia and brain teasers related to financial markets, thus showcasing their expertise and adeptness in quick decision-making under pressure.

Beyond merely enhancing understanding of financial markets, the event also sharpened critical thinking, decision-making, and teamwork skills among participants. With its conclusion, the event left participants with a newfound appreciation for the intricacies of financial markets, marking it as a resounding success.

Workshop on Training on NSMART
Date: 21 November 2023
The Faculty of Commerce and Management organized a Hands on training for the faculty members on 21st and 23rd November 2023.The session was led by Mr. G V Vijay Raghavan, Managing Director at Stockathon Academy, Bangalore. The objective of the session was to create an awareness about Investment opportunities in the stock market, virtual trading procedure and understand the options available for investors. He began the session with introduction to NSE and then he showed the features and procedure of NSMART Simulated Trading with examples. The faculties navigated through the interface and various tools options available under it. On the second day Sir taught the various order placing mechanisms and helped in doing demo trading with the help of NSmart. Vijay Raghavan sir solved all the queries raised by the faculties during the sessions. The session helped the faculties in understanding the potential risks and rewards of various trading strategies.

The two days training was an informative and interactive session, where faculties participated with full enthusiasm.

DARE TO START UP
Date: 30 October 2023
The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance proudly hosted a spectacular event on October 30th, 2023, under the banner of Festing Club "DARE TO START UP." This event, designed to encourage and showcase the entrepreneurial spirit of students, proved to be an inspiring journey. The day was brimming with activities, commencing with an inaugural ceremony, followed by a pitch competition, a crisis management challenge, and culminating in a grand valedictory ceremony. The event united the intellectual forces of all three year students. “Dare to start up” was a Premium Business Plan competition, with its own twist and challenges. The program prelims were based on Business Quiz, qualifies from 65 teams filtered and 19 best reached to the second round, Pitch Perfect. In this round they were required to show their marketing strategy along with an advertisement of their product or service. Each team was assigned a unique problem statement, ranging from addressing unemployment issues to solving problems related to clones, stagnant management, and promoting healthy lifestyles. The teams were meticulously evaluated by the judges based on creativity, business viability, innovation, originality, and logical reasoning. The participants were required to depict their initial ad through a video or live enactment and second part was pitching. Time frame was short for all the participants, they had to play very strategically to prove themselves and to be qualifier for final round, Survive and Thrive. Only seven teams emerged as finalists, earning the opportunity to participate in the "Survive and Thrive" round. This final round tested participants' ability to navigate real-life company crises, scrutinizing their problem identification, decision-making skills, ethical considerations, and their ability to devise impactful and risk-mitigating strategies. They were given another hurdle inform of AV cases from industry based on Patent, copyrights, Financial scams, PR, etc They had only 2 minutes to think for solutions to the case. In the end, "Team Inmobi" ( Yash Kothari, Ishika Kothari ,Pranav Nair, Ganavi) II Year Business Analytics (P6) demonstrated exceptional crisis management skills, clinching the top spot as the event's winners. They were followed by "Team OYO" ( Kenza Maryam Mustafa, N V Chanaswi , Riya Dutta , Aaron Ansel Thomas) II Year Business Analytics (P5) as the first runner-up and "Team Upgrad" ( Kishor Sibi, Anchana Krishna, Jingle Jiju, Priyanka Shettyas) II Year Business Analytics P5 the second runner-up. The audience watched in awe as these teams expertly handled real-world business challenges.

From first round to third round, all their performance, decision power, spontaneity, creativity, out of the box approach, attitude, everything was roasted from two esteemed Stewarts from industry. Judges extreme knowledge and expertise, helped them to understand real time changes. This DARE TO START UP platform was not superficial, it was real as it happens in any business plan completion, but with extra level of difficulties. These extra difficulties made them, more profound in their ideas and skill navigation. The event culminated with heartfelt expressions of gratitude for Mr. Rejoy John Consultant, BrandMeUp Creative LLP and Mr. Tharun Panchala, Founder Wanderfly and a sincere acknowledgment of the unwavering support from the Department Head, Dr Annie Stephen, FCA and faculty coordinator Dr. Nidhi R Gupta. The event was also conducted with the aim of developing skills in the advanced learners and granting a platform to the budding entrepreneurs to brainstorm enterprising ideas.

World Investors Week 2023
Date: 25 to 31 October 2023
Every year the Department of Professional Accounting, speculators club conducts sessions during the World Investors Week. The session is usually conducted by external and internal resource persons. This year sessions were conducted on 25th, 26th, 27th, 28th, 30th and 31st of October 2023.

On Day one, the resource person Mr. Sunil Kolangara, Co-founder of Unaprime discussed on how work and career are connected to investments. Sir gave emphasised on the basis of investments, ethical practices, segmentation of industry etc. Sir has encouraged the students to understand their strengths and weaknesses to identify their role in stock market. On Day two, talk on "Investment in Banking" was taken by Mr. Ashraf KA where, Vice President, HDFC Bank, Sir focused on high-stakes financial career that involves providing advisory and financial services to corporations, institutions, and governments. The talk aimed to enhance participants' understanding of investment banking practices, financial markets, and investment opportunities, ultimately empowering them to make informed financial decisions and explore career prospects in this industry.

On Day three, Ms. Sherin Chacko gave an overview of the fundamental concepts and functions of investment banking. It also aimed to offer insights into the role of investment banks in the financial market and their crucial functions in facilitating capital raising, mergers and acquisitions, and various financial advisory services.

CA Akhil Manuel led a session on derivatives markets through online mode on the fourth day. Sir spoke about Meaning, kinds, applications, and an explanation of many derivatives. Dr. Kiran Kumar's lecture on Market Mastery: Technical Insights was held on the fifth day. Sir covered topics such as stock market trends, historical trend analysis, risk management, IPO investment strategies, and the Gray Market.

On the final day, treasure hunt was conducted in and around the college with 35 teams of 4 members each. Participants were tested on their aptitude and critical thinking skills. The clues were hidden around the college and Top 4 teams were selected for the final round. This round focused on the participants' stock knowledge and negotiation skills, giving them a unique crossword puzzle to solve. The questions were also related to the stock market and finance, which helped the students acquire vital skills ahead of time.

Investor Awareness on Benefits of Investing in Mutual Funds

Speculators Club in association with HDFC Mutual Funds organized an Investor Awareness on Benefits of Investing in Mutual Funds. The resource person for the session was Dr. Balaji Rao DG, MBA, PGDMM, PGDFA, PhD - HDFC Mutual Fund, Bangalore. The main objective of the session was to provide a comprehensive overview of one of India’s leading mutual funds. Mutual Fund offers a wide range of schemes catering to different investment objectives and risk appetites. The lecture highlighted Mutual Fund commitment to delivering consistent and long-term returns for investors. Sir explained the favorable and unfavorable(risks) factors involved in investing in mutual funds. Areas such as right identification of stock, wealth creation and profit booking were touched. It was an illuminating and enlightening session.

The session on HDFC Mutual Fund offered valuable insights into the company & history, product offerings, investment philosophy, and services for investors. It underscored the importance of informed decision-making and understanding the risks associated with mutual fund investments.

Investor Awareness Programme

Retail investors have shown an inclination towards small-cap funds, adding to the largest number of folios in such schemes. Mutual funds are known to be one of the most preferred investment instruments. To create awareness of Mutual Funds and their features and tax implications, the Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organized a Skill Development Lecture on Investor Awareness Programme with a special focus on Mutual Funds on 25th February 2023, through the online mode. The session was organized with the aim of creating awareness of Mutual funds and their operations.

The session highlighted the importance of Mutual Funds and its operations. Mr Rishab Lunia throw light on the Systematics Investment Plan, various mutual fund schemes, and the benefits attached as well as a brief on the operations of mutual funds.

The speaker also explained why mutual funds are the finest investment option for future investment plans. The session was interactive and all queries posed by the participants were addressed by the speaker.

Investment Awareness Prorgamme on Capital Markets

Successful Investing is about managing risk, not avoiding it”-Benjamin Graham.

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organized a Skill Development Lecture on the Investor Awareness program focusing on capital markets in India on 22nd February 2023, through online mode. This seminar was organised to create awareness of Indian capital markets and savings and investments.

The Resource person, Mr. Rahul Dhawan, is a Trainer at Jai Vatnani & Company, Mumbai. Mr. Rahul created awareness among the students about the functioning of the capital market and emphasized the investment options available in the market and how one could make a choice among the vast pool of investment opportunities. Resource persons explore the importance of Mutual Funds, and their types, where to invest, making short and long-term financial goals followed by SIP - the power of compounding and Dos and Don’ts while investing in any assets. The session concluded with an open discussion with the students wherein the resource person clarified their queries with regard to investment decisions and the most viable options. The session was very comprehensive and enriching.

Innovative Investing

World Investor Week (WIW) – an International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) initiative, is a global investor awareness campaign. WIW is celebrated every year, across the world, by the securities market regulators. The week witnesses a host of investor awareness activities across the globe and the investors are explained about the importance of investor education and protection.

Joining hands with the intent of creating awareness and investor protection, the Speculators club conducted a session on the occasion of the World Investors Week titled Innovative Investing. The session was led by Dr. K. Kiran Kumar Faculty Co-ordinator- Speculators Club.

Amid growing retail participation in equity markets, the investor awareness programmes and education play an important role in helping new investors make informed decisions. It is essential that investors do not get lured by false promises and unsolicited advice. The attractive avenues for investments were discussed at length. The speaker also spoke about the importance of Investment and Savings and shared the life cycle of an Investor at various stages. He also he spoke about Crypto Currency, Non fungible Tokens, Crowd Funding with current Ponzi schemes and case studies and shared the advantages and disadvantages of different investments. The session was informative.

The Department of Professional and Accounting and Finance, in collaboration with the Speculators Club, Kristu Jayanti College, Autonomous, Bengaluru and in association with SEBI, NSE and NSDL organised a seminar on "Introduction to Securities Market" on September 28, 2022. The event was organised as part of the World Investor Week organised by the Speculators Club. The guest speakers of the event were Mr. Edward Marandi-Deputy General Manager, SEBI, Ms. Garima- Manager, SEBI, Mr. Ravi Uppe- Deputy Manager, NSE and Mr. Supratim Mitra- AVP, NSDL.

The session began with interactive questions by Mr. Edward in order to understand the knowledge and awareness levels of the students. He highlighted the need for investments, shared the concepts of Capital Market and also shared the Golden theory of Finance. He laid emphasis on the fact that all participants should be "informed investor". The session was continued by Ms. Garima who gave insights on the role of securities markets, importance and works done by SEBI, prerequisites of buying and selling, Initial Public Issue and also on the benefits of Mutual Funds. She also emphasised on the rights of shareholders and also the do's & don'ts of buying and selling. The next session was conducted by Mr. Ravi who gave information on the trading account opening and order placement process. He also shared insights on the good practices of a prudent investor and also informed the various Investor Grievance Redressal platforms. The final session by Mr. Supratim was on the Depository services and the role of Depository services. He also highlighted the importance of ISIN which they term as the "birth of a company". The session ended with Q & A.

Skill Development Lecture on Feel The Magic of Trading

The Speculators club conducted a session on the commemoration of World Investors Week on the topic of Feel the magic of trading. The objective of this skill development lecture was to give an insight on the trading procedures through live session and live examples. The session was led by Dr. K. Kiran Kumar, Faculty Coordinator. He began the session with an introduction on the way in which money can be used- Save, Spend and Invest. He explained the Live Trading procedure with various examples by using DSIJ virtual trading App. He gave a brief insights on Buy and Sell strategies like how to buy, why to buy and what are the reasons to buy before investing in the stock market. Furthermore, he discussed about the recent IPO’s in India like LIC IPO and PayTM IPOs with their advantages and disadvantages. The session was interactive and invited an open discussion with the students.

Smart Investor

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance in association with the Speculators Club celebrated the World Investor Week. The day 1 of the World Investor Week was held on 27th September 2022 at Kristu Jayanti College and the speaker of the day was C A Sreedevi P Menon, Asst. Professor of Kristu Jayanti College. The speaker started the session with a brief note on World Investor Week. The theme of the World Investor Week was highlighted and the speaker continued the session to understand the awareness of the participants on few key terms like DEMAT Account, Stock Exchange, Depository Participant, IPO and SENSEX. Further the speaker spoke about stocks that are part of NIFTY 50 and its historical returns. The students were educated about different types of securities in the market like equity, debt, derivatives, mutual funds, future & options. The speaker touched upon the fact that valuation is the key to determining value of a share in an IPO. Some tips & tricks of trading of shares were highlighted by the speaker. The speaker also shared her experience of trading or investing. The session concluded with a crossword puzzle activity. It was an interactive and informative session.

Awareness of Mutual Funds

The Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organized a Skill Development Lecture on Awareness of Mutual Funds focusing on effective wealth creation on 15th September 2022, through online mode. This seminar was organised to inculcate the idea of mutual funds among the students of first year.

The Resource person, Mr. Rahul Dawan, is a Trainer in Jai Vatnani & Company, Mumbai. Mr. Rahul Dawan stated that there is never a perfect time to learn or invest, but there is always a right time and a wrong time. He further explained that asset allocation and Portfolio management plays a major role in investment and expressed that when inflation is low, the investors feel that they know more about the future, and are much more willing to take risks. The session focused on beginners’ level of understanding on investment portfolio and their management and also on topics such as working of mutual funds, equity and debt schemes, scheme related documents, international funds, index bench marks and other related topics on investing.

The session was very comprehensive and enriching.

Beginners Guide to Cryptocurrency

Beginners Guide to Cryptocurrency organized by the Speculator’s Club, Department of Professional Accounting and Finance of Kristu Jayanti College, Autonomous Bengaluru.
Dr. Kiran spoke about cryptocurrencies powered by a technology called a block chain. It is a list of transactions that anyone can view and verify for example contains a record of every time someone sent or receive a bitcoin. This system is built from blocks of data that are chained together in chronological order. Sir also discussed the process of buying and selling cryptocurrency with the help of a flow chart. He called cryptocurrency money 2.O. and how the issue of funds through crypto is the future. Dr. Kiran spoke about sources of obtaining cryptocurrencies through mining followed by advantages and disadvantages of cryptocurrency and how they are becoming sources of finance for illegal activities. Finally, the session was ended with doubts clarification raised by the participants. It was indeed an enriching session.

Investors Awareness Programme on Finance Literacy
A skill development session was organized by the Speculator’s Club of the Department of Professional Accounting and Finance - Kristu Jayanti College, Autonomous Bengaluru.

The resource person for the session was Mr. Milind Kohmaria, Certified Financial Planner- Parivartan Learning Solutions, Mumbai. The main objective of the session was to enlighten the students on the importance of Savings and investment and the different investment opportunities available in India.He stressed on need and importance of saving and investment for future benefits to develop a preparedness in case of contingencies in future. He also shared his thoughts on the impact of inflation and also the ways and means of wealth creation. Mr Milind shared insights on the power of compounding, building the discipline of regular investing and how to set financial goals. He also emphasized on SIP, Mutual Funds Risk Appetite and Investment horizon. It was indeed an enriching session.

Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organized skill development lecture on “Capital Market Awareness” on 23 November 2021 through virtual platform. Mr. Pankaj Mathkar, Associate, Lotus Knowlwealth Pvt. Ltd addressed the students.

Mr. Pankaj Mathkar created awareness among the students about functioning of capital market. The trading process, trading timings, and risk involved in capital market were explained to the students. Mr. Pankaj Mathkar described about the categories of assets along with its salient features focusing on return, safety and liquidity. He also highlighted the Mutual funds and its types and various schemes of mutual funds. The speaker gave detailed explanation on do’s and don’ts of investors, rights of investors, obligations of investors and investor grievance redressal mechanism. The session ended with open discussion and participants gained the knowledge.

Ways of effective wealth creation
The Speculators Club from the Department of Professional Accounting and Finance organized a skill development lecture titled “Effective Wealth Creation” in association with SEBI.

The session was led by Mr. Thangaraj, Senior Associate, Jai Vatnani Company. He shared insights on investment options available in the market and the how one could make a choice among the vast pool of investment opportunities. He also highlighted the importance of Mutual Funds, and its types and international funds. Determining where to invest, making short and long term financial goals, SIP - the power of compounding, -SWP (systematic withdrawal plan were also discussed at length. The session concluded with an open discussion with the students wherein the resource person clarified their queries with regard to investment decisions and the most viable options. The session was informative.
