Workshop on Drama Therapy

The Department of Psychology, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru, organised a Workshop on Drama Therapy on 24th February 2026 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM for the IV Semester MSc Counselling and MSc Psychology students. A total of 110 beneficiaries participated in the workshop. The workshop aimed to provide students with experiential exposure to drama therapy techniques and to enhance their understanding of creative and expressive therapeutic interventions within counselling practice.

The session was facilitated by Ms. Deepika Murthy, Founder of Alp Viraam, Certified Drama Therapy Practitioner, and Professor of Practice in the Department of Psychology at Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University). She conducted the workshop through a combination of theoretical input, live demonstrations, and experiential activities. The participants were introduced to the foundations of drama therapy and engaged in structured warm-up exercises, role-plays, improvisation activities, and reflective group discussions. These activities enabled students to explore emotional expression, self-awareness, embodiment, and symbolic communication in a safe and supportive environment.

The workshop emphasized the application of drama-based techniques in counselling settings, highlighting how storytelling, enactment, and creative expression can facilitate emotional processing and personal growth. Students actively participated in the sessions and gained practical insights into integrating drama therapy methods into clinical, educational, and community contexts. Overall, the workshop served as an enriching learning experience that broadened students’ perspectives beyond conventional talk therapy approaches. It strengthened their practical skills and reinforced the value of experiential learning in psychological practice.


From Classroom to Corporate: Exploring Careers in I/O Psychology

The Department of Psychology organised an Alumni Interaction titled ‘From Classroom to Corporate: Exploring Careers in I/O Psychology’ for VI Semester B.A. Psychology students (Sections A & B) as part of their Corporate Psychology course, on 12.02.2026, from 11:00 am to 12:50 pm, at the A2 Auditorium, Administrative Block.

The interaction focused on creating awareness about the scope of Industrial/Organizational Psychology in the contemporary job market. The alumnus shared lived professional experiences, highlighting career opportunities in the I/O and Organizational Behaviour domains, the relevance of organizational psychology concepts in corporate settings, and the skills required to succeed in the field. The session also provided insights into higher education prospects, particularly the M.Sc. HRD Psychology programme offered by the department.

The interaction concluded with an engaging Q&A session, allowing students to clarify doubts related to career planning, postgraduate education, and industry expectations. A total of 79 students attended the programme, which helped enhance their confidence in the subject and offered clarity on future academic and professional pathways in I/O psychology.


Young Researchers Day 2026

The Department of Psychology, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru, organised Young Researchers Day 2026 to foster research aptitude and scientific inquiry among undergraduate psychology students. The initiative reflected the Department’s commitment to academic excellence through a strong integration of theory, research, and practice. The programme commenced with a prayer by the choir, followed by a welcome address by Dr. Maxim Perrara. The formal inauguration was delivered by Dr. Gopakumar A.V., Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences, who underscored the importance of curiosity, observation, reading, and writing in nurturing a vibrant research culture. Approximately 302 undergraduate psychology students benefited from the event.

The first session, “From Curiosity to Discovery – Developing the Research Mindset,” was facilitated by Dr. Sritha Sandon, Associate Professor at Chanakya University. She encouraged students to cultivate critical thinking, ethical inquiry, and openness to ambiguity. Interactive exercises, including the “mystery box,” effectively demonstrated how research emerges from everyday observation and questioning.

The second session, “Shape the Future: Research Careers for the Curious and Bold,” introduced students to diverse research pathways across academia, industry, policy, and interdisciplinary domains, while highlighting funding opportunities and emerging data-driven roles.

The post-lunch session featured student research presentations assessed by a faculty panel. Mariam Thomas and Maria Abraham received the Best Presentation award. The event concluded with a vote of thanks and the University anthem, reaffirming the institution’s dedication to research-oriented learning


Sattva Path Stroll: Mindful Walks for Psychological Balance

“Sattva Path Stroll: Mindful Walks for Psychological Balance”, a mindful herbal garden walk was organised on 20th January 2026 for psychology students by the Department of Psychology in association with the Department of Life Sciences and the Centre for Indian Knowledge Systems at Kristu Jayanti College (Deemed to be University), Bangalore. Thirty-five students participated in the session at the Herbal Gardens on campus from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM. The session was led by Dr. Sivagamasundari, faculty member in the Department of Life Sciences.

The stroll commenced with a guided exploration through the herbal garden, emphasizing a mindful pathway aligned with Indian Knowledge Systems’ focus on sattva for psychological balance. Dr. Sivagamasundari discussed various herbal medicinal plants, detailing their biochemical components, traditional usages, edible parts, and therapeutic usefulness, particularly for mental wellness and stress relief. Participants engaged in gentle observation of therapeutic herbs, fostering connections between Ayurvedic principles and clinical psychology concepts like emotional regulation.

This activity equipped psychology students with practical insights into herbal therapies rooted in Indian traditions, enhancing their understanding of holistic approaches to psychological balance in academic and personal contexts.


Career Counselling Session

The Department of Psychology at Kristu Jayanti College (Autonomous), Bengaluru, organised a Career Counselling Session for final year undergraduate Psychology students on 8 January 2026. The session aimed to provide students with structured guidance on postgraduate programme options, specialisations, and diverse career pathways available in the field of psychology.

The session began with an overview of the importance of informed decision-making while choosing postgraduate programmes in psychology. Students were oriented to the scope and structure of various postgraduate programmes, including M.Sc. Psychology, M.Sc. Counselling Psychology, M.Sc. Clinical Psychology, and M.Sc. HRD Psychology. Emphasis was placed on understanding programme objectives, specialisations offered in later semesters, and the alignment of individual interests with long-term career goals.

Detailed discussions were held on career opportunities associated with each programme. For M.Sc. Psychology, students were introduced to specialisations such as Clinical Psychology and Industrial Psychology & HRM, along with career prospects in clinical and counselling settings, corporate and HR roles, education, research, social and rehabilitation sectors, and allied fields such as media, marketing, and user experience research. The session also highlighted the academic and professional requirements for licensed clinical practice, including the need for advanced qualifications, internships, and supervised training, as well as the role of NET qualification for academic careers.

Ms. Ann Mary Jacob, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology concluded the session by discussing the career opportunities in foreign universities and to reach out to the Global Networking and Collaborations Committee for suggested sessions and connecting to the universities abroad.

Overall, the career counselling session served as a valuable platform for final year undergraduate students to gain clarity, confidence, and direction as they transition from undergraduate studies to advanced training and professional pathways in psychology.


ZESTASIA 2025

The Department of Psychology organised ZESTASIA – a Group Extension Activity on 19 December 2025 with the active involvement of undergraduate and postgraduate students. The activity was conducted across four children’s homes in Bengaluru—Shalom Children’s Home, Elizabeth Trust, Preethi Sadan Children’s Home, and Elizabeth Mayne Children’s Home—with the aim of promoting emotional expression, creativity, mindfulness, and positive social interaction among children.

Student volunteers were divided into four groups and engaged children through structured psychosocial activities such as creative drawing, gratitude postcard creation, Christmas-themed reflective exercises, and Mandala art. The sessions were conducted under faculty supervision, ensuring a child-friendly and ethically sensitive approach. A total of 24 student volunteers participated, and the activity was coordinated by Ms. Prasanna P from the MSc Counselling Psychology programme.

The extension activity provided meaningful engagement for the children while offering students hands-on experience in community service, teamwork, and the application of psychological principles in real-life settings.


Even Semester Course Plan and LMS Presentation

The Department of Psychology conducted the EVEN Semester Course Plan Presentation on December 5, 2025, with a primary focus on presenting and refining course plans for the upcoming Even Semester. Faculty members actively participated by sharing their course outlines and introducing innovative pedagogical strategies aimed at enhancing teaching and learning.

The session underscored the department’s commitment to academic excellence and digital integration. Faculty members not only detailed their instructional plans but also engaged in constructive discussions that provided valuable feedback, enriching both pedagogy and assignment design.

Dr. Sruthi Sivaraman, Head of the Department, led the deliberations by guiding conversations on effective teaching methodologies and fostering meaningful dialogue among the participants. Equally noteworthy were the contributions from Ms. Anitha Mary Mathew, PG Programme Coordinator, and Ms. Vimala A, UG Programme Coordinator, who shared diverse and creative assignment ideas to broaden student learning experiences. Overall, the session was highly productive, equipping educators with refined strategies and enhanced tools to cultivate an engaging and effective learning environment for the forthcoming semester.


Psychodrama
Date:05 November 2025
The Department of Psychology, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, organised a captivating psychodrama on 05 November 2025 at the SKE Auditorium, bringing together undergraduate and postgraduate psychology students for an immersive and educational theatrical experience. A total of 75 students participated in various roles, contributing to acting, production, stage management, and technical support. The theme of the drama focused on the early inventions and therapeutic techniques used in the formative years of psychology—methods that were often developed through trial and error, lacking strong empirical evidence or theoretical grounding. Despite their limitations, these early practices played a crucial role in shaping the evolution of modern psychological science. The script and screenplay for the event were adapted from the original production “UBERMENSCH” by S. P. College, Pune, maintaining its essence while tailoring the narrative to suit the academic context of our institution. The performance was witnessed by more than 1000 students and faculty members, who appreciated the depth, creativity, and academic relevance embedded in the production. The psychodrama ultimately served as a powerful experiential learning platform, helping students understand the historical development of psychological techniques and highlighting the importance of innovation, curiosity, and scientific inquiry in the growth of the discipline.


Mental Health Awareness Programme

The NSS unit of Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be) University under the guidance of Ms. Shreya Thomas, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology, conducted an awareness program on “Mental Health Awareness” at Radiant Shema School, Byrathi Village, Bengaluru, on 03rd November, 2025. The session was organised for the 7th and 8th-grade students, with around 50 beneficiaries participating enthusiastically. The activity began with an introduction to mental health and the significance of expressing emotions, delivered by the NSS volunteers. Students were made aware of how mental well-being influences their thoughts, behaviour, and relationships. This was followed by a fun and engaging activity designed to help students recognize and relate to different emotions in an interactive way.

An interactive discussion was then conducted, where students shared how they express their emotions and were guided on healthy coping mechanisms. The volunteers emphasized the importance of communication, empathy, and self-care.

The program concluded with a note of gratitude to the school management for their support and cooperation. The activity had a positive impact on both students and volunteers, fostering awareness, openness, and emotional understanding among the young participants.


Effective Time Management during Exams

The Department of Psychology conducted Life skills education training session for the III BSc Psychology A& B sections on 3/11/2025. Prof. Nikhath Seema delivered an insightful and engaging session on “Effective Time Management During Exams” for the 3rd semester BSc Psychology students. The talk emphasized the importance of planning, prioritization, and self-discipline in navigating academic stress and maximizing performance during exam season.

She began by highlighting common challenges students face—procrastination, lack of focus, and poor scheduling—and explained how these can be overcome with structured routines. Prof. Nikhath Seema introduced the concept of the “Time Audit,” encouraging students to track their daily activities to identify time-wasters and optimize study hours. She stressed the value of creating realistic timetables that balance study, rest, and recreation, noting that over-scheduling can be just as harmful as under-preparation.

Interactive elements, including discussions and an activity which helped students reflect on their own habits and commit to positive changes. Prof. Nikhath Seema concluded with a motivational reminder: “Time is not just money—it’s your potential. Use it wisely.”


Orientation Session on Exploring Workplace Dynamics

The Department of Psychology at Kristu Jayanti University organised an orientation session on “Exploring Workplace Dynamics” on October 15, 2025, for the I Semester postgraduate students of M.Sc. Psychology, M.Sc. Counselling Psychology, and M.Sc. Clinical Psychology. The session was conducted by Ms. Aarsha Ajayan, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology, with the objective of introducing students to the foundational concepts related to organisational behaviour and workplace interactions.

The resource person began the session by highlighting the scope of psychology in understanding human behaviour within professional settings. She explained how knowledge of psychology enables individuals to analyse, predict, and improve workplace functioning, thereby contributing to both individual and organisational well-being. A detailed discussion followed on the importance of studying workplace dynamics, emphasising how communication patterns, interpersonal relationships, and group behaviours shape overall organisational effectiveness. Ms. Aarsha elaborated on several key factors influencing workplace dynamics, including communication styles: Verbal, non-verbal, and digital modes of communication, and the implications of miscommunication, Team roles and group dynamics: Stages of group formation, establishment of roles and norms, cohesiveness, and effective collaboration, Power dynamics: Formal and informal structures, hierarchy, leadership influence, and status-based interactions, Cultural diversity: The impact of social identity and inclusion on workplace relationships and productivity.

The session also explored psychological factors shaping workplace behaviour, such as employee attitudes, emotional intelligence, and the influence of social identity on teamwork and engagement. Ms. Aarsha discussed common challenges in workplace dynamics, including bullying, harassment, groupthink, work-related stress, burnout, resistance to change, and interpersonal conflicts. To address these challenges, the resource person presented strategies for improving workplace dynamics, such as adopting effective communication techniques, fostering a positive work environment, and implementing constructive conflict management approaches. Through interactive discussions and examples, students gained a comprehensive understanding of how psychological concepts apply to workplace functioning. The orientation helped them appreciate the practical relevance of psychology in professional settings and motivated them to develop essential interpersonal and analytical skills for their future careers.

Overall, the session served as a valuable foundation for students to explore the interdisciplinary link between psychology and workplace behaviour, equipping them to navigate and enhance organisational environments effectively.


World Mental Health Day 2025 Observance Bengaluru Rehabilitation Cricket League (BRCL) – 14th Edition

The Department of Psychology, Kristu Jayanti University, in association with the Medico-Pastoral Association, observed World Mental Health Day 2025 through the 14th Edition of the Bengaluru Rehabilitation Cricket League (BRCL) held on Wednesday, 15th October 2025, at Pendleton Park, Bengaluru. The event aimed to promote mental health awareness and rehabilitation through sports by organizing a cricket tournament for people recovering from mental illness.

Participating teams included Cadabam’s Group, Richmond Fellowship Society, Medico-Pastoral Association (Half Way Home), Spandana Rehabilitation Centre, and NIMHANS. A group of Psychology students from Kristu Jayanti University volunteered for the event, assisting in coordination, player support, and awareness activities, thereby gaining practical exposure to community mental health and rehabilitation work.

The initiative benefited around 80 beneficiaries, providing them an opportunity to experience inclusion, teamwork, and empowerment through sport. The event highlighted the importance of using recreational and community-based approaches to foster recovery and emphasized the 2025 World Mental Health Day theme, “Mental Health is a Universal Human Right.”


Internship Orientation Session

The Department of Psychology at Kristu Jayanti College (Autonomous), Bengaluru, organised an internship orientation session on October 15, 2025, for the III Semester postgraduate students of M.Sc. Psychology, M.Sc. Counselling Psychology, and M.Sc. Clinical Psychology. The session was facilitated by Dr. Deepthi Vijayan, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology. The primary objective of the orientation was to familiarise students with the internship framework, including the guidelines, commencement and completion dates, documentation requirements, and evaluation criteria. Dr. Vijayan explained the importance of adhering to professional ethics, maintaining confidentiality, and demonstrating reflective practice during the internship period.

Students were briefed on the process of selecting appropriate organisations aligned with their specialisations, obtaining institutional approval, and fulfilling the mandatory internship hours. Detailed instructions were provided on the format of internship reports, daily and weekly reports and logbooks, and supervisor evaluations to ensure consistency in documentation and assessment. Dr. Vijayan also highlighted the learning goals of the internship—integrating theoretical knowledge with field application, enhancing professional competence, and fostering self-awareness as budding psychologists. The session concluded with a Q & A segment, allowing students to clarify doubts regarding placement opportunities, report submission, and evaluation rubrics.

Overall, the orientation session equipped students with the necessary clarity and direction to undertake their internships with professionalism and preparedness, marking the beginning of an important phase in their academic and professional journey.


Certificate Course on Competency Mapping

The Certificate Course on Competency Mapping, organised by the Department of Psychology, Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru, was held from September 8 to September 26, 2025 in online mode. The course successfully provided postgraduate students with an in-depth understanding of competency frameworks, mapping techniques, and their strategic application in modern organizations.

The programme commenced with an inspiring Inaugural Ceremony on September 8, 2025, graced by Mr. Zaved Akhtar, an eminent expert with over 17 years of experience in competency mapping. In his inaugural address, Mr. Akhtar highlighted the growing importance of aligning individual skills with organizational strategy to enhance performance and productivity. Rev. Fr. Dr. Lijo P. Thomas, Pro Vice Chancellor of Kristu Jayanti University, delivered the Presidential Address, appreciating the department’s initiative in equipping students with industry-relevant skills for the evolving job market.

Across 15 interactive sessions, resource persons from academia, consulting, and industry shared their expertise on diverse aspects of competency mapping. Topics ranged from the evolution and myths of competency models to traditional frameworks like the Lancaster and Transcultural Models, as well as modern approaches including Korn Ferry Lominger’s 67 Competencies, SHRM Behavioral Competency Model, and the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs framework. Sessions also covered job and role analysis, behavioural event interviews (BEI), survey techniques, process mapping, and competency dictionaries, offering a comprehensive blend of theoretical insight and practical tools.

Participants gained exposure to applications of competency mapping in recruitment, training, performance management, and leadership development through real-world case studies presented by experts. The course emphasized the role of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), HR professionals, and strategic alignment in building effective competency models.

The programme concluded on September 26, 2025, with individual student presentations showcasing their understanding of competency assessment and application in organizational contexts. The Valedictory Session celebrated the successful completion of the course, with certificates awarded to participants who demonstrated active engagement and learning throughout the 30-hour programme.

Overall, the Certificate Course on Competency Mapping provided participants with practical skills and actionable knowledge to design and implement competency frameworks in diverse professional settings. By combining expert insights, interactive discussions, and student presentations, the course reinforced the Department of Psychology’s commitment to fostering industry-ready competencies and preparing students for the future of human resource management.


Alumni Guest Talk on “Digital Tools for Mental Well Being”

The Department of Psychology, School of Humanities and Social Sciences organised an Alumni Guest Talk on “Digital Tools for Mental Well Being” for the IInd Year M.Sc. Clinical, Counselling, and Psychology students.

The resource person of the event Ms. Athulya Elsa Idicula, Programme Manager, Positive Clinical Psychology Department, NIMHANS shared valuable insights on innovations of digital tools in the field of psychology. She highlighted her own journey from a student to the Programme Manager of a Microsoft Funded Project. The session emphasized how digital tools can be harnessed to build initiatives that not only contribute to mental health awareness but also open avenues for professional growth and social change.

The interactive seminar motivated students to explore the digital realms in psychology and encouraged them to think beyond conventional career paths. Students actively engaged in discussions and reflected on how they could apply their academic knowledge in innovative ways.

Overall, the programme was a successful initiative that blended psychology and entrepreneurship, inspiring students to envision themselves as future psychopreneurs.


World Suicide Prevention Day Observed

The Department of Psychology, School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University), in collaboration with the Medical Pastoral Association, observed World Suicide Prevention Day on 12th September 2025 at St. Mark’s Cathedral Auditorium, Bengaluru.

The programme aimed to create awareness about suicide prevention and the importance of mental health. As part of the event, psychology students performed a drama on the theme “The Untold Story: From Silence to Speaking Out.”

The drama portrayed the struggles faced by individuals in silence and highlighted the need to speak up, seek help, and support one another. The performance was well received by the audience and helped spread the message of care, hope, and understanding.

This observance encouraged students and participants to be more open about mental health and to play an active role in supporting those in need. A total of over 100 beneficiaries, including students, faculty, and community members, actively participated and gained awareness through the programme.


Anthemia - University Anthem Singing Competition
Date:10 & 11 September 2025
The Department of Psychology, School of Humanities and Social Sciences organised Anthemia- University Anthem Singing Competition, bringing together students from all undergraduate and postgraduate classes. Participation was structured class-wise, ensuring that every batch had the opportunity to showcase their talent and enthusiasm. The event aimed to instil pride, unity, and a strong sense of belonging among students through the collective singing of the university anthem. All the students participated with great energy, making the competition both lively and memorable. Separate rounds were conducted for undergraduate and postgraduate categories to encourage fair competition. After spirited performances, winners and runners were identified in both UG and PG sections. In the postgraduate category, III Semester M.Sc. Counselling Psychology emerged as winners, while III Semester Clinical Psychology A secured the runners-up position.

In the undergraduate category, V Semester Psychology Journalism claimed the winning spot, with V Semester Psychology & English recognized as runners-up. The competition not only highlighted musical talent but also promoted teamwork and institutional identity. Overall, the programme was a resounding success, leaving students motivated and connected to their university community.


Manodarshan 2025

Theme: “Mind in Motion: Evolution of Psychological Perspectives”
The Department of Psychology organised its annual exhibition of psychological models, Manodarshan 2025, with the theme “Mind in Motion: Evolution of Psychological Perspectives”. The exhibition showcased the creativity, knowledge, and innovative thinking of psychology students, who actively participated by presenting 59 models, both working and static. The event was inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Dr. Augustine George, Vice Chancellor, Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University) in the presence of faculty and students. The exhibition was held in two venues, M1 and M2, which created a vibrant space for exploration and interaction.

A unique highlight of this year’s Manodarshan was the Career Booth, where students provided guidance on higher education pathways and career opportunities in the field of psychology. In addition, the exhibition featured demonstrations of selected psychological tools, giving visitors practical insights into their application and relevance.

The program witnessed an overwhelming response, with 805 internal participants and 54 visitors from two external schools attending the exhibition. Visitors appreciated the efforts of the students and shared encouraging feedback on the originality, depth, and presentation of the models.

Manodarshan 2025 not only highlighted the evolution of psychological perspectives but also fostered a spirit of collaboration, creativity, and academic engagement among the students. The exhibition received much admiration for its organization and the insightful learning opportunities it provided. In the valedictory session, the winners were awarded with certificates.


Reel Making Contest on Stories of Humanity

The Department of Psychology, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University), organised a Reel Making Contest to commemorate World Humanitarian Day on 01.09.2025. The contest aimed to celebrate and acknowledge the efforts of real-life heroes who dedicate themselves to serving communities in need.

The theme of the contest, “Stories of Humanity,” encouraged students to capture the voices, work, and experiences of humanitarian workers such as NGO staff, social workers, health professionals, and disaster relief volunteers. Participants showcased their creativity through short reels that highlighted compassion, resilience, and service to society.

The competition was open to students of psychology, either individually or in teams of two to three members. Participants were required to create original reels of 30–60 seconds duration in English or regional languages (with English subtitles), adhering to Jayantian decorum.

A total of 38 beneficiaries took part in the contest as participants and audience members. Two students from the Department participated in the event and were recognized for their sincere efforts and creative storytelling. The initiative successfully provided a platform for students to express gratitude towards humanitarian workers and to raise awareness about the importance of humanitarian values in society.


Psychopreneur: Harnessing the Mind to Drive Innovation

The Department of Psychology organised an enriching seminar titled “Psychopreneur: Harnessing the Mind to Drive Innovation” for the I Year M.Sc. Clinical, Counselling, and Psychology students. The session was conducted in collaboration with the Institution Innovation Council, with the aim of instilling an entrepreneurial mind-set among budding psychologists.

The resource person of the event Ms. Arishtika Jain, final year M.Sc. Psychology, shared valuable insights on the importance of creativity, resilience, and innovation in the field of psychology. She highlighted her own entrepreneurial journey through her start-up, which focuses on integrating psychological principles with innovative practices to create meaningful impact. The session emphasized how psychological knowledge can be harnessed to build initiatives that not only contribute to mental health awareness but also open avenues for professional growth and social change.

Expert Talk on the Harmful Effects of Ragging

As part of Anti-Ragging Week, the Department of Psychology, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Kristu Jayanti University, organised an expert talk on “Harmful Effects of Ragging” for first-year UG and PG students on 12 August 2025 in the M1 Auditorium. The session was led by Dr. Shreshtha Chowdhury, Assistant Professor, Kristu Jayanti College of Law, who addressed the psychological, academic, and legal consequences of ragging. Dr. Chowdhury highlighted that ragging is a serious offence under Indian law and stressed the importance of building healthy peer relationships through respect and mutual support.

Students actively participated in an interactive Q & A session, gaining insights into preventive measures, legal provisions, and institutional support systems. The event successfully reinforced the university’s commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and ragging-free campus.


LMS Orientation for Psychology First Year Undergraduate and Postgraduate Students

The Department of Psychology, School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University), organised a detailed and structured Learning Management System (LMS) orientation for all first-year undergraduate and postgraduate Psychology students as part of their academic induction programme. Conducted between 11th and 14th August 2025 by experienced faculty members from the department, the sessions were designed to equip students with the necessary skills to engage effectively with the university’s digital learning environment. A total of 497 beneficiaries actively participated in the porgramme.

The training began with step-by-step guidance on logging into the LMS and emphasized the importance of digital security by instructing students to change their default passwords immediately. Once logged in, students were introduced to the wide range of features available on the platform, including accessing lecture notes, downloading assignments, viewing announcements, and participating in interactive activities. The orientation also highlighted how the LMS serves as a central hub for academic communication and resource sharing, making it an essential tool for their educational journey.

A live demonstration ensured that students could practice navigation in real time, while faculty members closely supported those who encountered challenges, providing one-on-one assistance wherever required. The program further emphasized the role of the LMS in fostering independent learning, encouraging students to take responsibility for managing their coursework, deadlines, and academic progress.

By the end of the sessions, students not only gained technical proficiency but also developed greater confidence in using digital platforms as part of their higher education experience. The orientation successfully bridged the transition into university-level online learning, laying a strong foundation for collaborative, technology-enabled academic engagement throughout their course of study.


Bridge Project- Peer Mentorship

The Bridge Project – Peer Mentorship Program, held from 4th to 7th August 2025, brought together over 350 postgraduate psychology students in a four-day series of interactive sessions led by senior students. The initiative aimed to foster peer connection, promote self-awareness, and provide academic, emotional, and cultural guidance through a blend of experiential learning and reflective dialogue.

Across eight themed sessions, participants engaged in activities, discussions, and roleplays covering topics such as building peer bonds, navigating postgraduate transitions, exploring self-identity, authentic expression, evidence-based academic strategies, the role of AI in mental health, cultural diversity, and departmental fest culture. Each session integrated psychological theories with practical applications, offering students insights into personal growth, emotional regulation, interpersonal skills, and collaborative problem-solving.

By the conclusion of the program, students had developed a stronger sense of community, enhanced their academic and personal toolkits, and gained actionable strategies for both professional development and everyday life. The workshop reinforced the value of peer mentorship as a powerful medium for learning, support, and shared growth within the department.


Solution Focused Approach on Counselling: Introduction to Key Skills and Techniques

The workshop titled Solution Focused Approach on Counselling: Introduction to Key Skills and Techniques by Dr. Jaseem Koorankat, Licensed Clinical Psychologist, introduced postgraduate psychology students to the fundamentals of Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). Participants explored core principles such as future orientation, strengths-based dialogue, and small-step progress. The approach emphasized building on client resources rather than analyzing problems. Students learned key techniques including miracle questions, scaling questions, and identifying exceptions. Core counselling competencies like active listening and collaborative goal-setting were practiced throughout. Role plays and live demonstrations provided immersive, hands-on training. Scenarios were designed to reflect real-life counselling challenges in academic and workplace contexts. Students received feedback on their therapeutic style and ethical decision-making.


Research Symposium

The Department of Psychology at Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru, organised Research Symposium on 25th July 2025 for the III M.Sc. Psychology and Clinical Psychology students. Held across venues H609–H612 and H701–H704 in two sessions—9:00 AM to 12:30 PM for Clinical Psychology A and Psychology, and 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM for Clinical Psychology B and C—the symposium served as a platform for over 226 postgraduate students to present their research work. Students showcased diverse topics addressing contemporary psychological issues and innovative therapeutic approaches, fostering academic engagement and reflective dialogue. The event enabled participants to receive constructive feedback from faculty, promoting critical thinking and research aptitude. This initiative reflected the Department’s dedication to academic excellence and experiential learning, marking a meaningful step in the professional and academic growth of emerging psychologists.

The Department of Psychology conducted Life skills education training for the I BSc Psychology A,B &C students sections from 22/7/2025 to 25/7/2025. Life skills education is a transformative approach that equips undergraduate students with essential abilities to navigate personal, academic, and professional challenges. These skills go beyond academic knowledge and foster emotional intelligence, effective communication, decision-making, and resilience—key ingredients for lifelong success.

The sessions were conducted by trained life skills faculty.

The ten core life skills play a pivotal role in personal growth:

Department of Psychology Hosts Research Symposium for Final Year Postgraduates

SHUBH AARAMBH 2025–2026 - Psychology Department Reorientation

On 9th July 2025, the Department of Psychology, Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be) University, conducted the Shubharambh Reorientation Programme for II Year Postgraduate Psychology students.

The programme commenced at 11:00 a.m., marking the beginning of the new academic phase for the students. The session focused on familiarizing them with the academic framework, departmental code of conduct, and the updated curriculum for the upcoming semester.

From 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the Class Animators led an insightful orientation session. They emphasized the importance of adhering to the Jayantian code of conduct and provided detailed explanations of the assessment and evaluation procedures. The session was designed to help students navigate their final year with clarity, confidence, and a strong sense of academic responsibility.

The reorientation served not only as an academic briefing but also as a reaffirmation of the values and goals that guide the postgraduate journey. With clear direction and a renewed sense of purpose, the students are well-prepared to engage with the academic year ahead.


Shubh Aarambh 2025–2026 - Psychology Department Reorientation

On 7th July 2025, the Department of Psychology, Kristu Jayanti College, Autonomous hosted the Shubharambh Reorientation Programme for 3rd semester B.Sc. Psychology students. The day began with sessions at 9:00 a.m. in rooms H601 and H602, where students were guided through the academic plan, departmental code of conduct, and curriculum updates for the new semester.

This was followed by an insightful reorientation session from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., led by Dr. Anjana Sinha and Ms. Nikhath Seema. They emphasized the importance of the Jayantian code of conduct and provided clarity on assessment guidelines, helping students step into the new semester with confidence and clarity.

The programme wrapped up with an inaugural session at 12:00 p.m. in the Jubilee Auditorium, bringing together all students for a unified start to the academic year. The reorientation served as a valuable reminder of academic expectations and personal growth.


Department of Psychology: Odd Semester Course Plan and LMS Presentation

The Department of Psychology held the odd semester course plan presentetion on June 29 and 30, 2025, focused on presenting and refining the course plans for the upcoming Odd Semester. Faculty members of the department actively participated, sharing their course outlines and incorporated innovative pedagogical strategies.

This session highlighted the department’s dedication to academic excellence and digital integration. Teachers not only shared their plans but also received constructive feedback that enriched the quality of pedagogy and assignment design.

Dr. Sruthi Sivaraman, Head of the Department, played a key role in guiding discussions on effective teaching methodologies, fostering insightful dialogue among the faculty. Significant contributions also came from Mr. Vigraanth Bapu, PG Programme Coordinator, and Ms. Vimala A, UG Programme Coordinator, who offered a wide range of assignment ideas to diversify student learning.

Overall, the session proved to be highly productive, equipping educators with enhanced tools and strategies to create an engaging and effective learning environment for the new semester.


Reel Making - "Reel the Truth – Say No to Drugs"

To observe the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the Department of Psychology organised a Reel Making Contest on 26th June 2025. The event aimed to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drug use and promote a drug-free lifestyle through student creativity and digital media.

Psychology students participated with great enthusiasm, submitting thought-provoking and creative reels aligned with the theme “Reel the Truth – Say No to Drugs.” The contest served as a platform for students to express their advocacy through impactful storytelling, highlighting the dangers of substance abuse and the importance of making informed choices.

Among the many commendable entries, Ms. Thrupthi N, a student of III MSc Clinical Psychology, emerged as the winner of the contest for her compelling and visually engaging reel.

The event successfully combined awareness and creativity, fostering a spirit of responsibility and social consciousness among students.
