World Wetlands Day Celebration with Cleanliness Drive at Hunasamaranahalli Lake

Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University), through the Prayas Extension Club and Yuva Tourism club of the Department of Professional Management Studies, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism Bengaluru office and Hands on CSR, observed World Wetlands Day 2026 by organising a cleanliness drive and waste bin installation at Hunasamaranahalli Lake in Bengaluru on Monday. The programme was held in line with this year’s theme, “Wetlands and Traditional Knowledge: Celebrating Cultural Heritage,” highlighting the vital link between wetlands, indigenous knowledge systems and cultural practices associated with water bodies.

More than 45 student volunteers actively participated in cleaning the lake premises and its surrounding areas. The drive also served as an awareness initiative to sensitise the local community about the ecological significance of wetlands, their role in conserving biodiversity, and their importance in sustaining livelihoods and cultural traditions. Volunteers interacted with residents and visitors, spreading messages on responsible waste disposal, protection of natural ecosystems and the need for community participation in conserving wetlands. The initiative underlined how traditional knowledge and local stewardship can play a crucial role in protecting fragile wetland ecosystems.

The Kindness Kiosk – PRAYAS Extension Club Initiative

The Department of Professional Management Studies, under School of Management studies, Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University) through its PRAYAS Extension Club, successfully organised “The Kindness Kiosk” on 12 December, at the Humanities Block, from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, under the banner of the PRAYAS Extension Club. The Kindness Kiosk was conceptualised with the theme “Kindness is contagious –let’s make it go viral through every stall we set up”, aiming to foster empathy, social responsibility, and community engagement among students. The event provided a platform for students to translate compassion into action through creative and service-oriented initiatives. A total of 13 student teams actively participated in the event, each setting up unique kiosks that promoted acts of kindness, generosity, and inclusivity. The stalls showcased a variety of initiatives such as sharing essentials, creative outreach activities, food items, and meaningful interactions designed to spread positivity within the campus community. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, and visitors, creating a vibrant and heart-warming atmosphere throughout the day. The collaborative efforts of the teams highlighted the importance of social consciousness and demonstrated how small acts of kindness can collectively create a significant impact. The PRAYAS Extension Club played a pivotal role in organising and coordinating the event, ensuring smooth execution and meaningful engagement. The Kindness Kiosk stood as a testament to the university’s commitment to holistic education by nurturing values beyond academics and encouraging students to contribute positively to society.


Household Survey - Prayas Extension Club

The Department of Professional Management Studies, under the School of Business and Management, organized a Household Survey to Marjenahalli, Kolar Taluk on 28th October 2025, in collaboration with Unnat Bharat Abhiyan and facilitated by the Prayas Extension Club. The activity aimed to bridge academic learning with real-world social understanding by engaging students in a structured rural survey.

During the visit, students conducted door-to-door household surveys to gather data on income levels, educational attainment, employment status, sanitation, and healthcare access. They interacted with local residents to assess their awareness and utilization of government welfare schemes. Faculty coordinators guided students on ethical field practices, data documentation, and observation of rural socio-economic dynamics.

This community extension programme provided a platform for students to apply concepts of research methods, data collection, and rural management in a real-life setting. It enhanced their understanding of inclusive growth and community engagement, aligning classroom learning with societal development. The initiative also benefited the local community by helping identify areas needing attention in education, sanitation, and resource allocation.


Swachhotsav - Cleanliness Drive

On 30th September 2025, the Prayas Volunteers of the Extension Club conducted a cleanliness drive at Kasturinagar Lake, a water body that was recently revived through the collective efforts of local residents. The drive began with an orientation session highlighting the importance of lake conservation and the need for responsible waste disposal. Over 27 student volunteers enthusiastically participated in cleaning the surroundings, collecting litter, and segregating waste into biodegradable and non-biodegradable categories. Volunteers interacted with residents to spread awareness on maintaining cleanliness and preventing plastic pollution. The event drew appreciation from nearly 350 residents, local community groups, and civic representatives, who acknowledged the students’ commitment to social welfare and environmental preservation. The drive exemplified the relevance of domain knowledge—linking concepts of sustainability, waste management, and community development with hands-on implementation. It provided students with practical exposure to planning, teamwork, and civic engagement.

Before the drive, the lake surroundings had scattered litter and unsegregated waste. Post-activity, the area appeared visibly cleaner and better maintained. Students developed stronger civic values and environmental awareness, while residents expressed renewed commitment to preserve the lake’s cleanliness through collective participation. This drive helped in maintaining the lake plastic free and environment friendly not only for the residents but also for the migrant birds who started to have their living in the lake. A total of 350 residents of the locality got benefitted out of the activity and the drive was much appreciated by them.


An Awareness Session on Cervical and Breast Cancer
Date: 05 February, 2025
An expert talk on Cervical and Breast Cancer was organised for the Girl Students of the department on 5th February 2025 related to creating an awareness on Breast and Cervical cancer as women are the victims of these cancer in India. The session aimed to raise awareness and educate students on breast and cervical cancer, as well as promote a culture of respect within the institution.

Dr. Nithya Manayath, a renowned Surgical Oncologist from Baptist Hospital, Bangalore, was the resource person for the session. She delivered an informative and engaging presentation, covering essential topics such as the importance of early detection, symptoms, risk factors, and prevention strategies for breast and cervical cancer. The session was highly interactive, with students actively participating in the discussion and asking thoughtful questions. Dr. Manayath’s expertise and approachable demeanor helped create a safe and supportive environment for the students to openly discuss their concerns and queries. The program was well-received by the students, who appreciated the opportunity to learn about these critical health issues. The session not only educated the students but also empowered them to take charge of their health and well-being.

Overall, the awareness session on cervical and breast cancer was a resounding success, and we are grateful to Dr. Nithya Manayath for sharing her expertise with our students.
