Rural Exposure Programme
Date: 09 March 2026
The Department of Economics, School of Commerce, Accounting and Finance, organized a Rural Exposure Programme as part of its extension activities for the IV Semester MSc Economics students on 9th March 2026 in Marasandahalli Village, Hettakki Gram Panchayat, Hoskote Taluk, Bengaluru Rural. The programme aimed to provide students with experiential learning by engaging directly with rural communities and understanding the socio-economic realities of village life. Through field interaction, awareness activities, and community engagement, students gained practical insights into rural development issues, local governance, and livelihood conditions. The initiative also helped in fostering social responsibility, empathy, and a deeper understanding of grassroots economic challenges among postgraduate economics students. A total of 33 students were the beneficiaries of this programme, gaining valuable field-based learning experience through their participation.


Mock Group Discussion -“Think. Speak. Lead.”

The Department of Economics at Kristu Jayanti University conducted a Mock Group Discussion session titled “Think. Speak. Lead.” on 10 February 2026 for placement-registered students as part of the 2025–2026 placement training programme. Held at Conclave Hall, the session was led by Prof. Stephen Deepak and simulated real-time campus placement GD rounds under structured conditions. Students discussed contemporary topics in groups, focusing on communication, clarity of thought, teamwork, leadership, and subject knowledge. The resource person provided constructive feedback on content, delivery, and overall performance. The session helped students understand recruiter expectations, identify areas for improvement, and better prepare for upcoming campus placements.


Yaaden 2026 Unwinding & Unleashing Memories

The Department of Economics successfully organised “Yaaden – 2026”, an alumni gathering and cultural programme, aimed at fostering emotional bonding, institutional pride, and student engagement. The programme commenced with an inaugural address propsed by Dr. Vijayakumar R Dean , School of Commerce, Accounting and Finance. Dean emphasized alumni networks in fostering mentorship, career growth, and institutional development. Their words encouraged alumni to stay engaged with the college and contribute to its academic and professional ecosystem. Following the inaugural session, the event transitioned into a more informal and interactive phase, filled with engaging performances and fun activities. Students from BA and MSc Economics programs showcased their talents through group dances, songs, and entertaining ice-breaking sessions. Laughter and cheer echoed through the auditorium as alumni participated in fun games and online activities, making the gathering lively and enjoyable. The interaction sessions hosted by students provided alumni with an opportunity to share their academic journey, professional experiences, and life lessons, which greatly inspired the current students. Alumni candidly responded to questions, reflected on their time at the university, and motivated students to pursue academic excellence and career clarity. Their spontaneous participation during games and informal discussions strengthened emotional connections and fostered a sense of belonging to the institution. The event was a delightful opportunity for alumni to reconnect with their alma mater, share their experiences, and relive cherished memories. The atmosphere was filled with excitement and nostalgia as former students reunited with their peers and faculty members. The event was a perfect blend of nostalgia, entertainment, and interaction, providing alumni with an opportunity to reminisce about their college days while forming new connections with current students. The joy of rekindling old friendships, sharing stories, and witnessing the vibrant spirit of the department made Yaaden 2026 a truly memorable experience. The Department of Economics looks forward to organizing more such reunions, strengthening the bond between alumni and their beloved institution. Overall, the enthusiastic involvement of alumni transformed the event into a memorable and meaningful experience, reinforcing alumni relations and contributing to the holistic development of students.


Budgetcraft

The Department of Economics, School of Commerce, Accounting and Finance, Kristu Jayanti University, organised Budgetcraft on 6 February 2026 for UG Economics students. The session, titled “Budget Expectations vs Budget Reality: The State Perspective”, was conducted from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm at H501. The programme was moderated by Mr. Ayush Raj M.C, Analyst, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India LLP.The session aimed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the gap between budgetary expectations and actual fiscal outcomes from a state-level perspective. Through analytical discussions and practical insights, students were introduced to key aspects of budget formulation, implementation challenges, and real-world fiscal decision-making. The interactive nature of the session encouraged critical thinking and active participation among students.


Student Presentation on Union Budget – STEC And BA Applied Economics

The Department of Economics, School of Commerce, Accounting and Finance, Kristu Jayanti University, organised a Student Presentation on the Union Budget 2026 on 03 February 2026 for III Year B.Sc. STEC and BA Applied Economics students. The programme was designed to facilitate advanced policy analysis and critical engagement with contemporary fiscal issues.

The session featured presentations by Ms Parnava Ghosal and Ms Kriti Sharma from the MSc Economics programme. The presenters focused on fiscal consolidation measures, deficit management strategies, and sector-wise budgetary allocations, with particular attention to education, technology-driven growth, and climate-responsive public spending. The discussion also examined the macroeconomic implications of budgetary priorities for inflation, growth sustainability, and public debt management. The programme encouraged informed debate and active participation, enabling students to apply economic theory to real-time policy analysis. The session concluded successfully, strengthening students’ analytical and policy interpretation skills.


Student Presentation on Union Budget – CSE and Applied Economics

The Department of Economics, School of Commerce, Accounting and Finance, Kristu Jayanti University, Bengaluru, organised a Student Presentation on the Union Budget 2026 on 03 February 2026 for First Year B.Sc. CSE and Applied Economics students. The programme was conducted to enhance students’ understanding of contemporary fiscal policy and its economic implications.

Ms Nairikta Ghosh and Ms Sandhya Chandrasekhar, final year BA Applied Economics students presented the session. The presentation focused on the current Union Budget’s emphasis on increased public capital expenditure and infrastructure-led growth, highlighting its role in stimulating economic activity, employment generation, and long-term productivity. The programme witnessed active student engagement and facilitated applied learning through peer-led academic interaction. The session concluded successfully, reinforcing budgetary awareness and practical economic analysis among undergraduate students.


Inter-Collegiate Panel Discussion on Union Budget 2026

The Department of Economics, School of Commerce, Accounting and Finance, Kristu Jayanti University (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru, in collaboration with PSGR Krishnammal College for Women, Coimbatore, successfully organised an Inter-Collegiate Panel Discussion on “Union Budget 2026” on 2 February 2026 at 3:00 PM through the Zoom platform. The event aimed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the key provisions, priorities, and implications of the Union Budget 2026, fostering critical analysis and informed discussion on contemporary economic policies.The panel comprised enthusiastic student participants from Kristu Jayanti University, Bengaluru, and PSGR Krishnammal College for Women, Coimbatore. The panelists from Kristu Jayanti University included Ms. Gaurika D, Ms. Ayman Fathima, Mr. Mahammed Tameem, and Ms. Rebecca Faustina Mishra, while Ms. G. Subhanvitha, Ms. Swathika Karthikeyan, and Ms. Kavya M represented PSGR Krishnammal College for Women. During the discussion, the panelists critically examined major budgetary announcements related to economic growth, fiscal consolidation, social sector spending, infrastructure development, and employment generation. The session highlighted diverse perspectives on how the Union Budget 2026 addresses current economic challenges and its potential impact on various sectors of the economy. Community Engagement Programme (Orphanage Visit)

The Department of Economics, School of Commerce, Accounting and Finance, Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University), organised a Community Engagement Programme on 28th January 2026 at Home of Hope Orphanage, Ashirwad Nagar, Visthar, Bengaluru, for II Semester MSc Economics students. A total of 33 students participated in the visit, engaging meaningfully with the residents through interactive activities, informal conversations while also contributing essential supplies. The programme aimed to sensitise students to social realities and foster empathy, civic responsibility, and community awareness. The visit offered valuable first-hand exposure to grassroots social issues, reinforcing academic learning with real-world experience and highlighting the importance of inclusive development and social welfare, making it a deeply enriching and impactful learning experience for the students.


Preamble to Practice: Understanding the Indian Constitution

The programme was conducted for MSc Economics students.The session was led by Dr Vanshika Kumar, Assistant Professor, School of Law, Kristu Jayanti University. The lecture focused on the relevance of the Indian Constitution, particularly the Preamble and its core values, in shaping economic governance, public policy, and inclusive development. The programme witnessed active student participation and meaningful academic interaction. The programme concluded on a reflective note, reinforcing the importance of constitutional values in shaping informed economists and responsible citizens.


Mock Aptitude Series - 1

The Department of Economics, Kristu Jayanti University, organised Mock Aptitude Series – 1 on 20 January 2026 for IV Semester MSc Economics students as part of placement training for the academic year 2025–2026. The test was conducted from 12:00 pm to 12:50 pm. The mock aptitude test was designed to simulate real campus placement examinations and assessed students’ skills in quantitative aptitude, logical reasoning, verbal ability, data interpretation, general knowledge, and current affairs. Conducted under timed conditions, the test helped students develop speed, accuracy, and effective time management. The programme enabled students to evaluate their strengths, identify areas for improvement, and gain familiarity with the pattern and difficulty level of placement aptitude tests. The initiative witnessed active participation and served as a valuable preparatory exercise.


Internship Orientation Programme for Economics Students

The Department of Economics, School of Commerce, Accounting and Finance, Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru, organised an Internship Orientation Programme for II Semester MSc Economics and IV Semester BA Applied Economics students. The programme was conducted on 19 January 2026 at 12:50 PM in Room H502, 5th Floor, Humanities Block. From BA and Msc 57 students attended the orientation. The programme aimed to provide students with essential guidance on internship opportunities, objectives, and expectations. It helped students understand the practical relevance of internships in enhancing academic learning and professional skills. The session also highlighted procedures, guidelines, and best practices for selecting and completing internships effectively. The programme served as a valuable platform for preparing students for industry exposure and career development.


Awareness Campaign on Career Prospects at RBI

The Department of Economics, School of Commerce, Accounting and Finance, Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University) organised an Awareness Campaign on “Career Prospects at the Reserve Bank of India” for UG and PG Economics students on 9th December 2025 at M4 Auditorium, Main Block. The session featured eminent speakers from RBI Bengaluru — Smt. Meenakshi Gad, General Manager, and Smt. Achala Ashok Kumar Aralikatti, Manager — who briefed students on career pathways, recruitment procedures, essential skills, and growth opportunities in the RBI. They also highlighted the importance of competitive exams and skill development in the banking and financial sector. The campaign was highly enriching and inspired students to pursue careers in central banking.


Add-on Course: Introduction to Stock Market

The Department of Economics at Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University) successfully conducted an Add-on Course on the "Introduction to Stock Market" for II Semester BSc Applied Economics Students, which concluded on December 12, 2025. Originally scheduled to begin on December 8, the multi-day course was designed to complement the students' theoretical studies by providing essential, practical knowledge of capital markets, including key concepts in Savings, Investments, and Trading, as well as practical skills related to Demat and Trading accounts, Mutual Funds, and understanding investment strategies like SIP, STP, and SWP. The sessions, which were held in H 205, Humanities Block, ultimately aimed to enhance the students' financial literacy and equip them with the confidence to make informed, responsible financial decisions.


Add-on Course: Modern Banking Practices and Financial Innovations

The Department of Economics at Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University) successfully organized a multi-day Add-on Course titled “Modern Banking Practices and Financial Innovations” for II Semester M.Sc. Economics students from 8 December 2025 to 13 December 2025, with sessions held daily from 9:00 a.m. in Room H501, Humanities Block. The programme was designed to provide postgraduate students with in-depth exposure to contemporary trends in the banking sector and recent advancements in financial technology, thereby enriching their academic understanding of Economics through practical and industry-relevant insights. The course also aimed to enhance students’ analytical and professional competencies, preparing them for emerging opportunities in the financial services sector.


Mock Climate Submit

The Department of Economics, Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University), organised a Mock Climate Summit on 6th November 2025 for the students of IM.Sc. Economics and II B.A. Applied Economics. About 41 students participated in the event. The session provided students with a practical understanding of how discussions, debates, and negotiations take place in real-world climate summits. Students represented various countries and proposed the need for technological advancements and collective action to mitigate climate change risks. The event offered valuable insights into the current climate-related challenges faced by different nations, the strategies adopted to address them, and the growing importance of international cooperation in tackling global climate issues. As a part of the teaching pedagogy for the course ‘Economics of Sustainable Development Goals,’ the program successfully provided students with hands-on experience of how climate summits operate in practice.


Outcome Based Education (OBE) Session

The Department of Economics, School of Commerce, Accounting and Finance, Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University), organised a session on Outcome Based Education (OBE) on 29th October 2025 at 4:30 PM in Room H502, Humanities Block. The session was led by Dr. Rohith S, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, who served as the resource person. The session focused on enhancing faculty understanding of the OBE framework, emphasizing the formulation of Programme Outcomes (POs), Programme Specific Outcomes (PSOs), and Course Outcomes (COs), and aligning teaching and assessment strategies with measurable learning outcomes. The interactive discussion provided valuable insights into implementing OBE effectively, fostering student-cantered learning, and promoting continuous quality improvement in higher education. The session was attended by 7 faculty members in Department of Economics.


Student Panel Discussion on “AI for Inclusive Economic Growth”

The Department of Economics, School of Commerce, Accounting and Finance, Kristu Jayanti University, Bengaluru, organized a Student Panel Discussion on “AI for Inclusive Economic Growth” on 15th October 2025 at 10:00 AM via Zoom. The event was conducted in collaboration with PSGR Krishnammal College for Women, Coimbatore, and St Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Jakhama. The session aimed to explore how Artificial Intelligence can contribute to inclusive and sustainable economic development across various sectors. Student panelists from the three collaborating institutions shared insights on the role of AI in bridging economic disparities and promoting equitable growth.

The panel included Mounika Bhattacharjee and Kancherla Divyani (KJU), Chenchule Magh and Nzanthung Y Ezung (St Joseph’s College), and Subhanvitha, Subha Sathya, and Sara Usma (PSGR Krishnammal College). The discussion provided an interdisciplinary perspective combining technology, economics, and social inclusion. The program successfully encouraged academic collaboration and student engagement on emerging issues in digital and inclusive development.

The event aimed to acquaint V Semester B.Sc. STEC students with the significant contributions and research findings of the 2025 Nobel Laureates in Economics. Students actively presented and analyzed the laureates’ work, fostering critical thinking and a deeper understanding of contemporary economic theories. The interactive session enriched their academic perspective and connected classroom learning with real-world economic developments.


Alumni Lecture Series I Transition from Campus to Corporate

The Department of Economics organised the Alumni Lecture Series I on “Transition from Campus to Corporate” on 13th October 2025 at 1:40 PM in M3 Auditorium, Main Block. The session was led by Ms. Shawna John, Workplace Executive at DWP Interics, Bengaluru, and an alumna of the MA Economics (Batch 2023–2025) . Ms. Shawna shared her personal journey of moving from student life to the corporate environment, emphasizing the importance of communication skills, adaptability, and continuous learning. She highlighted the challenges faced during the transition period and offered practical strategies to overcome them. Speaker highlighted the skills need learn and improve to sustain in the corporates. The session also touched upon workplace ethics, networking, and career planning. Ms.Shawna also conducted team building activity for the students.Students actively participated in the interactive Q&A session, gaining valuable perspectives on how to be a part of professional journey.


Blackboard Diaries: Students as Teachers in Commemoration of Teachers Day

The program highlighted the value of peer-learning, offered postgraduate students a platform to experience teaching, and paid tribute to the inspiring role of educators. The event, held at the Humanities Block, witnessed active participation and created a memorable academic experience.


Hands-on Training Session on “Positive Minds, Purposeful Lives: Shaping Strong Minds for Meaningful Life”

Department of Economics organised a Hands-on Training Session on “Positive Minds, Purposeful Lives: Shaping Strong Minds for Meaningful Life” on 30th August 2025. The session was conducted from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon at H502, Humanities Block. The training was facilitated by Mr. Melvin Anthony Miltan, Senior Learning & Development Specialist, Being You. The session focused on developing positive thinking, resilience, and a sense of purpose among students to help them lead meaningful lives and face challenges with confidence. 67 students from MSc Economics actively participated in the session. Students engaged in practical exercises, interactive discussions, and reflective activities, which provided them with valuable insights into nurturing mental strength and clarity of purpose. The programme was well received by the participants, who expressed that the session was highly enriching, motivational, and relevant for both personal and academic growth.


Economics Club Inauguration 2025-26

The Department of Economics organised the Inauguration of the Economic Club for the academic year 2025–26 on 28th August 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the H2 Auditorium, 7th Floor, Humanities Block. The event was graced by the esteemed Chief Guest, Ms. Savita Nehra, former Senior HR Leader at Wipro and Capgemini, Bengaluru. Ms. Nehra was introduced through a brief profile outlining her 22 years of experience in the corporate sector. In her address, she emphasized the dynamic nature of the job market driven by technological advancement. Highlighting both challenges and opportunities, she encouraged students to develop adaptability, resilience, and a mindset of continuous learning. She also spoke about maintaining a balance between career growth and personal passions, offering students a grounded understanding of corporate realities. The programme effectively set the tone for upcoming initiatives, fostering student engagement and professional orientation in the field of Economics.


Econo Crash: Quiz, Crash, Conquer

The Department of Economics organised a dynamic and engaging event titled Econo Crash on 28th August 2025, from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon at the H2 Auditorium, 7th Floor, Humanities Block. The event was designed as a fun yet intellectually stimulating platform, comprising three segments—Quiz, Air Crash, and Conquer—to test students’ knowledge, critical thinking, creativity, and communication skills. The Air Crash event, added a creative and theatrical dimension. Participants were presented with a simulated crisis scenario involving a plane crash and limited parachutes. Each student assumed the role of a prominent economic thinker or global leader, including Alfred Marshall, Adam Smith, J.M. Keynes, Dr. Manmohan Singh, Elon Musk, and others. They passionately defended their case for survival, highlighting their character’s contributions and importance. This activity emphasized persuasive communication, creative expression, and deep understanding of economic history and contemporary figures. In Conquer segment , offered participants complete freedom to perform on stage, showcasing speeches, performances, and innovative acts. This segment promoted spontaneity, confidence, and audience engagement, allowing students to express themselves creatively and confidently. Overall, Econo Crash event combined knowledge enhancement with entertainment, providing a vibrant platform that fostered analytical thinking, creativity, and public speaking skills among students. The event was well-received and marked an enriching experience in the department’s annual calendar.


Life Skill Session on Power of Relationships

The Department of Economics, School of Commerce, Accounting, & Finance, in association with the Centre for Life Skills Education (CLSE), Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University), Bangalore, organised a Life Skill Session on “Power of Relationships” for the II and III BA Applied Economics students, on 21st August 2025. The session was facilitated by Dr. Unnikrishnan T. S., Assistant Professor, Department of Social Work, Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University) Bangalore. The session was interactive and activity-based, keeping students engaged throughout. Various activities and games highlighted the importance of building strong interpersonal relationships in both personal and professional life. The resource person also emphasized the role of active listening, empathy, and effective communication as key skills for nurturing healthy relationships. Students participated enthusiastically, making the session lively and insightful. The programme successfully conveyed the message that meaningful relationships form the foundation for growth, collaboration, and well-being.

The session proved to be highly informative and motivating, equipping students with clarity about the examination and encouraging them to pursue academic excellence and research opportunities.

The Department of Economics organised an Orientation session for the I Semester M.Sc Economics students on 25th July 2025 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at H501.Dr.Sivasubramanian K, Head, Department of Economics, oriented students to introduce the Academic Plan and Department Code of Conduct, ensuring students understand academic expectations and professional discipline. Followed by his presentation, Ms. Preethi SJG Assistant Professor, Department of Economics conducted the session to introduce the Curriculum Component, Jayantian Code of Conduct and Assessment Guidelines to promote integrity and clarity in evaluation processes to align students with departmental and institutional expectations. Emphasis was placed on maintaining academic integrity, active engagement in departmental activities, and overall student development. The session concluded with an interactive segment where students clarified their queries regarding academic and conduct-related matters, fostering a better understanding of their responsibilities

Value Added Course on Corporate Social Responsibility

The Department of Economics conducted a Value-Added Course (VAC) on Corporate Social Responsibility for the III Semester MSc Economics students (number of beneficiaries- 24) from 10th to 15th July 2025. The course aimed to enrich students’ understanding of ethical corporate practices, sustainability, and the role of businesses in society. Through a series of expert sessions, case discussions, and interactive modules, students gained practical insights into the evolving landscape of CSR in India and globally. The VAC bridged theoretical knowledge with real-world applications, thereby enhancing their preparedness for socially responsible economic roles. The programme witnessed active participation, critical engagement, and positive feedback from all attendees.


Value Added Course on Personal Finance and Financial Literacy

The Department of Economics successfully conducted a Value-Added Course titled "Personal Finance and Financial Literacy" for III Semester BA Applied Economics students (number of beneficiaries- 20). The programme was held from 8th July 2025 to 12th July 2025 at the Humanities Block, Room H106. The course aimed to equip students with essential knowledge and skills in managing personal finances, budgeting, savings, investment, and understanding financial instruments. Sessions were interactive and practical, enhancing financial awareness and decision-making capabilities among students. This initiative aligns with the department’s continuous efforts to integrate real-world competencies into the academic curriculum.


Panel Discussion on Economic Impact of Population

The Department of Economics at KRISTU JAYANTI (DEEMED TO BE UNIVERSITY), Bangalore, organised a panel discussion titled “Economic Impact of Population” on July 11, 2025, in observance of World Population Day. The event, held at H501 at 2:30 PM, witnessed the participation of students from BA Applied Economics and MSc. Economics. The session aimed to raise awareness about population-related challenges and explore whether students perceive population growth as a challenge or an opportunity. Panellists included 2nd year MSc Economics and 2nd year BA Applied Economics students who presented diverse perspectives on population growth in India and other countries. The discussion was enriched by the presence and insights of faculty members and marked by active engagement and enthusiastic participation from the audience.


Orientation on Academic Plan, Department Code of Conduct & Curriculum Components and Reorientation on Jayantian Code of Conduct & Assessment Guidelines

The Department of Economics organized an Orientation session for the III Semester BA Applied Economics students on 7th July 2025, from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM at H501. The session was conducted by Dr. Nirmala M M, who guided the students through the Academic Plan, Department Code of Conduct, and Curriculum Components, helping them to align their academic goals with the expectations of the department. In addition, Dr. Nirmala provided a reorientation on the Jayantian Code of Conduct and Assessment Guidelines to familiarize students with institutional norms and evaluation procedures. The session aimed to motivate students to actively engage in departmental and college activities while upholding academic integrity and discipline.
