Experiential visit to Nightingales Medical Trust
Date:10 February 2026
On 10 February 2026, the Department of Sociology organised an experiential visit to Nightingales Medical Trust for the VI Semester BA PSSO students from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. The visit offered students a meaningful understanding of institutional care for the elderly, particularly those living with dementia. The team at the Trust introduced students to its vision, services, and daily functioning, while a psychologist explained the stages, diagnosis, and management of dementia, helping students connect medical, psychological, and social dimensions of ageing. The interaction with residents, including music and dance activities, created a warm and engaging atmosphere and helped students appreciate the importance of care, empathy, and social support in geriatric institutions.

Educational Visit to Somanathapura and Janapada Loka
Date:14 February 2026
This field visit provided students with a profound dual-perspective on Karnataka’s heritage, transitioning from the architectural precision of the Hoysala Empire to the vibrant, lived traditions of regional folk culture. At the Chennakesava Temple, students explored the mathematical and artistic brilliance of the 13th century. The key learning focus was the Stellate (star-shaped) ground plan, a hallmark of Hoysala design that maximizes surface area for intricate carvings. The visit to Ramanagara’s ‘Folk World’ shifted the focus to the socio-anthropological roots of Karnataka. Students engaged with the preservation of rural lifestyles and indigenous technologies.
