Internship Orientation

The Department of History, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru, conducted an Internship Orientation Programme on 10 March 2026 at A1 Conference Hall for the students of II BA HSPSSO.
During the programme, BA HSPS III year students shared their internship experiences in various institutions including schools, NGOs, panchayats, and libraries. They explained the nature of the work they undertook, the skills they developed, and the learning outcomes from their field exposure.
The interaction helped guide the second-year students in understanding internship opportunities and preparing for their own field experiences in the upcoming semester.

Traditional Games

The Department of History, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru, organised a session on “Traditional Games” on 9 March 2026 at A1 Auditorium for the students of II BA HSPSSO.
The session was conducted by Ms. Immaculate Antony, Founder of Ima Recreation, Bengaluru, who highlighted the cultural significance of traditional games and their role in promoting physical activity, teamwork, and community bonding. She also spoke about the importance of preserving indigenous games as part of India’s cultural heritage.
Students actively participated in the interactive session and gained insights into the historical and social value of traditional recreational practices.

Edeya Hanate-Theatre Production by Kannada department

Edeya Hanate, staged by the Department of Kannada On 26 February 2026, a compelling Kannada theatre production of Edeya Hanate captivated audiences, dramatizing a story drawn from Heart Lamp, the internationally celebrated collection by writer, activist, and lawyer Banu Mushtaq. The collection’s translation won the International Booker Prize in 2025, marking a historic milestone for Kannada literature as the first Kannada work and the first short story collection ever to receive this honor.
Edeya Hanate - meaning Heart Lamp - reflects deeply human themes of resilience, identity, and the complexities of societal life in southern India, rooted in Mushtaq’s decades-long engagement with community struggles and storytelling
The theatre production of Edeya Hanate on 26 February 2026 stands as an important cultural moment. By bringing Banu Mushtaq’s powerful storytelling from Heart Lamp to the stage, it not only celebrates literary achievement but also reinforces the impact of Kannada narratives in contemporary theatre. Such adaptations enrich artistic communities and invite wider appreciation of regional voices within global cultural conversations. Dr. Syed Muen wrote and directed the play based on the story of Banu Mushtaq.

Internship Orientation Programme

The Department of Sociology organised an Internship Orientation Programme for IV Semester BA HSPSSO students on 06 February, to guide them in preparing for their field internships in sociology. Conducted by senior students, the session provided practical insights on selecting suitable organisations, approaching institutions professionally, understanding responsibilities during internships, and preparing reports. Third-year students shared their own field experiences, explaining how sociological theories and imagination can be applied in real-world contexts. The interactive orientation offered clarity and confidence to juniors, helping them approach their internships with better preparedness and purpose.

Andher Nagari

On 25 February, the Department of Hindi presented the timeless satire “Andher Nagari Chaupat Raja” as part of Natya Rang 2026. The programme commenced with a warm welcome speech delivered by Ms. Vaishnavi, a student, who highlighted the importance and contemporary relevance of satirical drama in society. The distinguished guest for the occasion, Dr. Jayashankar Babu, HOD, Pondicherry University, Puducherry, graced the event with his presence and appreciated the systematic and impactful staging of the play. The performance vividly portrayed themes of blind governance, unjust leadership, and social awareness through powerful acting and meaningful dialogues.
The production was marked by meticulous stage design, expressive performances, and thoughtful direction, which together created an engaging experience for the audience. The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Sreedhara P. D. The programme was successfully convened under the guidance and coordination of Dr. Mohamed Nayaz Pasha, Department of Hindi, whose leadership and dedication contributed greatly to the success of the event.

Manvantara: A New Dawn for Young Literature - 2025-26

With the noble vision of nurturing the latent creative sparks within young minds, a unique platform titled ‘Manvantara’ was envisioned. Designed specifically for undergraduate and postgraduate students, this initiative was more than just a competition; it was a heartfelt invitation for the next generation to weave their dreams and experiences into the timeless fabric of stories and poems.
The Two Wings of Expression
To give structure to this creative journey, two distinct categories were introduced, each carrying a symbolic name:
• Saurabha (Fragrance): A dedicated space for the delicate art of poetry, where emotions find their rhythm.
• Vismaya (Wonder): A segment for short stories, capturing the diverse and often surprising hues of human life.
A Journey of Recognition
The response from across the state was overwhelming, proving that the love for literature is vibrant and alive in our youth. Each submission was treated with the utmost care through a rigorous two-stage evaluation process.
The works shortlisted in the first stage were transitioned to a final round of deep reflection. These were then placed before the discerning eyes of some of our land’s most celebrated poets and storytellers to ensure that every deserving voice received its due honor.
‘ಮನ್ವಂತರ’ 2025- 2026
ಪದವಿ, ಸ್ನಾತಕೋತ್ತರ ಪದವಿ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ‘ಮನ್ವಂತರ’ ಎಂಬ ಹೊಸ ವೇದಿಕೆ ಸಿದ್ಧಮಾಡಲಾಯಿತು. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಕವಿತೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಕಥೆಗಳನ್ನು ಸ್ಪರ್ಧೆಗೆ ಆಹ್ವಾನಿಸಿ, ಬಹುಮಾನ ನೀಡುವ, ಉತ್ತಮ ಕವಿತೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಕಥೆಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರಕಟಿಸುವ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮ ರೂಪಿಸಲಾಯಿತು.
ಈ ‘ಮನ್ವಂತರ’ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಕವಿತೆಗಳ ಬರವಣಿಗಾಗಿ ‘ಸೌರಭ’ವೆಂಬ ಶೀರ್ಷಿಕೆಯು ಹಾಗೂ ಕಥೆಗಳ ಬರವಣಿಗೆಗಾಗಿ ‘ವಿಸ್ಮಯ’ವೆಂಬ ಶೀರ್ಷಿಕೆ ಅಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧೆಯನ್ನು ಆಯೋಜಿಸಿದೆವು. ಸ್ಪರ್ಧೆಗೆ ಸ್ಪಂದಿಸಿ ನಾಡಿನಾದ್ಯಂತ ಉತ್ತಮ ಪ್ರತಿಕ್ರಿಯೆ ದೊರೆತು ಹಲವು ಬರಹಗಳು ಬಂದವು. ಈ ಬರಹಗಳನ್ನು ಸ್ವೀಕರಿಸಿ ಎರಡು ಹಂತದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೌಲ್ಯಮಾಪನ ಮಾಡಲಾಯಿತು. ಮೊದಲ ಹಂತದಲ್ಲಿ ಆಯ್ಕೆಗೊಂಡ ಕವಿತೆ-ಕಥೆಗಳನ್ನು ಎರಡನೆಯ ಹಂತದ ಮೌಲ್ಯಮಾಪನಕ್ಕೆ ಕಳಿಸಿ, ನಾಡಿನ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ಕವಿಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ ಕಥೆಗಾರರ ತೀರ್ಪಿನ ಮೇರೆಗೆ ಫಲಿತಾಂಶವನ್ನು ಅಂತಿಮಗೊಳಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ‘ಸೌರಭ’ ಎಂಬ ಕಾವ್ಯ ವಿಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಕವಿಗಳಾದ ಲಲಿತಾ ಸಿದ್ಧಬಸವಯ್ಯ ಹಾಗೂ ಸುಬ್ಬು ಹೊಲೆಯಾರ್ ಅವರು ಅತ್ಯುತ್ತಮ ತೀರ್ಪು ನೀಡಿ ಪ್ರಶಂಸೆ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸಿ ಪತ್ರ ಬರೆದಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ‘ವಿಸ್ಮಯ’ ಎಂಬ ಕಥಾ ವಿಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಡಾ. ಎಚ್. ಎಸ್ ಸತ್ಯನಾರಾಯಣ ಹಾಗೂ ಕುಸುಮ ಆಯರಹಳ್ಳಿ ಇವರು ಅತ್ಯುತ್ತಮ ತೀರ್ಪು ನೀಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

Gamification Session II: Political Premiere League

The Department of Political Science, under the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, successfully organised the second event of its Gamification Series titled Political Premiere League (PPL). Inspired by the format of the Indian Premier League, the PPL creatively blended politics with the excitement of cricket. Designed on the lines of an IPL match, the event featured two dynamic teams — Aristotle Royals and Kautilya Super Giants — each comprising eleven students. Just like in cricket, the competition began with a toss to decide which team would “bat” first. However, instead of runs and wickets, participants scored points by answering intellectually stimulating political science questions.
The format mirrored a T20 match, with each team facing 20 questions symbolising the 20 overs. The questions spanned political theory, public administration, international relations, and contemporary politics, testing not only knowledge but also teamwork, strategy, and presence of mind.PPL was neither a conventional debate nor a standard quiz; it was political science played in true cricketing style. The event fostered active participation, healthy competition, and conceptual clarity, making learning both engaging and memorable. The Political Premiere League truly demonstrated that academics and innovation can form a winning partnership.

Inter-university Competition - Vaagvibhuti

A grand inter-university competition titled Vaagvibhuti was organized on 16 February 2026 at Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University) in Bengaluru on the occasion of World Hindi Day by the Department of Hindi, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. The chief guest for the event was Dr. Bhanwar Singh Shaktawat, Associate Professor from Jain (Deemed to be) University. The program was presided over by Rev. Fr. Joshi Mathew, Director of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, while Dr. Gopakumar A. V., Dean of Humanities, served as Vice-Chair. The introductory address was delivered by Dr. Sridhar P. D., Head of the Department. The event was coordinated by Dr. Vinod Baburao Meghsham and Dr. Sainath Nagnath Ganshetwar, along with all faculty members of the Hindi Department. Around 50 students from seven universities and colleges of Bengaluru participated enthusiastically in the competition

Poster Exhibition - “Field of Flavours: The Sociology of Food”

As part of the food festival, the Department of Sociology also organised a thematic exhibition titled “Field of Flavours: The Sociology of Food,” inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor of Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru, on 13 Feb 2026. The exhibition presented a series of thought-provoking posters exploring the relationship between food and society. Themes included food taboos, purity and pollution, gender roles in cooking, globalization of cuisine, and the politics of consumption. Several displays drew on sociological ideas such as Pierre Bourdieu’s reflections on taste and social background, helping viewers understand how food preferences reflect social location and cultural upbringing. Posters also connected popular culture and cinema with food practices, encouraging students to view everyday habits from a critical perspective. The exhibition provided a reflective space for dialogue and learning, enabling students to see how food operates as a powerful marker of identity, inequality, and cultural memory. Overall, the exhibition complemented the festival by deepening sociological understanding and promoting critical engagement with everyday practices.

Research Quest: A Workshop on Research Methodology

The Department of Political Science, under the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, organised a workshop on Research Methodology on 11/02/2026. The workshop was graced by the presence of Dr. Sujit Kumar, Assistant Professor at Azim Premji University. The session focused on qualitative tools of research and their application to Adivasi communities. Dr. Kumar shared his extensive fieldwork experiences, offering practical insights into conducting interviews, participant observation, and ethnographic studies in marginalized contexts. He emphasized the importance of positionality in research, encouraging scholars to critically reflect on their own social locations and biases while engaging with communities.
The workshop also highlighted ethical considerations, informed consent, and the need for culturally sensitive approaches in data collection. Students actively participated in discussions, raising questions about challenges in fieldwork and data interpretation. The interactive session enriched participants’ understanding of qualitative research methods and inspired them to adopt more inclusive and reflexive research practices in their academic pursuits.

Inauguration of the Centre for Public Policy Research at Kristu Jayanti University

The Centre for Public Policy Research (CPPR) at Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University) was inaugurated on 5 February 2026 following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Kristu Jayanti University and the Centre for Public Policy Research, Kochi. CPPR is an independent public policy think tank with national and international engagement in research, policy dialogue, and governance studies. Under this collaboration, Kristu Jayanti University will function as a nodal centre of CPPR, creating opportunities for interdisciplinary research, policy engagement, and academic initiatives in the field of public policy.
The programme was organised by the Department of Social Sciences and Languages, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Kristu Jayanti University. The inaugural session was held in the presence of Dr. D. Dhanuraj, Founder-Chairman, CPPR, Kochi; Fr. Joshy Mathew, Chief Human Resources Officer and Director, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Dr. Gopakumar A.V., Dean, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Dr. Kaveri Swami, Associate Professor & Head and Dr. Sameena M.S, Assistant Professor, Department of Social Sciences and Languages. Faculty members and students of the University also attended the programme. The inauguration of the Centre was marked by the release and formal handover of the policy document of the Centre for Public Policy Research at Kristu Jayanti University, which was presented by Fr. Joshy Mathew to the Chief Guest, Dr. D. Dhanuraj.
An expert session by Dr. Dhanuraj followed the inauguration, in which he spoke on the practical dimensions of public policy and governance in India. He highlighted the importance of understanding policy processes at the local level, the need for youth to engage with democratic institutions, and the relevance of public policy education in contemporary times. Referring to the principles of efficiency, effectiveness, and equity, along with the importance of economic growth, he underscored the need for balanced policy planning. He also reflected on current trends such as youth migration for education and employment and emphasised the role of institutions in strengthening policy awareness and participation. The session offered valuable insights for students and marked a promising beginning for the activities of the newly inaugurated Centre.

Food Festival Food Ooo Food

The Department of Sociology organized a vibrant food festival titled Food Ooo Food on 13 January 2026 at the Humanities Block. Conceived as a sociological exploration of Indian society through food, the event brought together culture, learning, and shared experiences in an engaging format. Nine stalls representing different regions of India showcased not only a variety of dishes but also the traditions, values, and stories associated with them. Students dressed in traditional attire highlighted the cultural diversity embedded in food practices, helping participants understand how factors such as region, caste, class, ecology, and occupation shape what people eat. The event created a lively and inclusive atmosphere where tasting food became a way of learning about society, encouraging students to connect everyday practices with sociological concepts. The programme successfully transformed a food fest into a meaningful academic and cultural experience, fostering teamwork, creativity, and a deeper appreciation of diversity.

Bhasha Kammata
Date:12 & 13 January 2026
The Department of Hindi, Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be) University, in collaboration with Kuvempu Bhasha Bharati Pradhikara, an autonomous body established under the Department of Kannada and Culture, Government of Karnataka, successfully conducted a two-day translation workshop titled “Bhashantara Kammata” on 12 and 13 January 2026.
The workshop was inaugurated on 12 January 2026 at 10:30 a.m. by the Honourable President of the Authority, Dr. Chennappa Katti. The inaugural session was graced by the presence of Prof. Shakira Khanum, Workshop Coordinator and Member of Bhasha Bharati Pradhikara; translation mentors Dr. T. R. Jodatti, Retired Teacher, Navodaya School, and Dr. N. Devaraj, Principal, Morarji Desai Residential School, Chamarajapete. The programme was further dignified by Dr. Gopakumar A. V., Dean of Humanities, Dr. Sridhar P. D., Head, Department of Hindi, faculty members of the Department of Hindi, and participating translators.
The workshop focused on the review and refinement of translated Hindi short stories. On both days, expert mentors guided the translators through detailed and interactive discussions, offering constructive suggestions to enhance linguistic accuracy, cultural relevance, and literary quality. The sessions provided valuable exposure to the practical aspects of translation studies.
The valedictory function was held on 13 January 2026 at 2:30 p.m., during which Dr. Sridhar P. D. presented a comprehensive summary of the workshop proceedings. Prof. Shakira Khanum addressed the participants, emphasizing the crucial role of translation in promoting literary exchange and cultural understanding.
The workshop benefitted 18 translators who actively participated in the translation process and approximately 200 students who gained academic and practical insights into translation studies. The programme concluded with the distribution of certificates to all participating translators in recognition of their valuable contributions.

Kaun Banega Politicopati

The Department of Political Science, under the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, organised a gamification-based event titled Kaun Banenga Politicopati (KBP). Modelled on the popular television show Kaun Banega Crorepati, the event consisted of multiple rounds that progressively assessed participants’ understanding of political concepts, constitutional frameworks, governance, and contemporary political developments. Each round was designed to combine learning with competition, using engaging question formats, lifelines, and elimination stages to sustain interest and enthusiasm. The event aimed to promote experiential learning, enhance political awareness, and foster analytical thinking among students, while providing an interactive platform that blended academic rigor with entertainment.

Value Added Course titled Sustainable Governance and Climate Policy
Date:08 to 12 December 2025
The Department of Political Science organized a Value Added Course titled “Sustainable Governance and Climate Policy” for II Semester M.A. Public Administration students from 8th December 2025 to 12th December 2025. The course aimed to enhance students’ understanding of sustainable governance, climate change, and the role of public policy in addressing environmental challenges. Through interactive lectures and discussions, students were introduced to key concepts related to sustainability, climate policy, and responsible governance.
As part of the course, students actively participated in fun and engaging participatory activities focused on the creation of recycled products using waste materials. These hands-on activities helped students appreciate the importance of recycling, environmental responsibility, and sustainable practices. The course successfully blended theory with practice and contributed to increasing students’ awareness and commitment towards sustainable development and climate-conscious governance.

Mind-Maze, Intellectual Game Show

The Political Science Club, under the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Kristu Jayanti (Deemed-to-be University), organized Mind-Maze, an Intellectual Game Show under the guidance of Dr. S. J. Michael, Associate Professor, Department of Political Science, Kristu Jayanti University. The event adopted the approach of gamification, integrating learning with fun through innovative games based on core concepts of Political Science. The show was divided into three rounds: In the first round, participants solved riddles related to key political concepts such as justice, constitution, liberty, and equality. The second round featured image-based questions, where participants identified political concepts, events, or ideologies represented visually. The final round, titled “Pictures within Pictures,” challenged students to decode hidden political ideas, leaders, or events embedded within a larger image, testing both their analytical and interpretive skills. The event encouraged critical thinking, conceptual clarity, and teamwork, while making the learning of Political Science engaging and interactive.

Unity Baazar: Cultural Kaleidoscope

The Department of Political Science, under the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Kristu Jayanti (Deemed-to-be University), organized exhibition stalls as part of the Unity Day celebrations on 29 October 2025. The event was inaugurated by Fr. Dr. Marialal Joseph, Director of Research and Development, and was graced by the presence of Dr. Gopakumar A. V., Dean, School of Humanities and Social Sciences. In his inaugural address, Fr. emphasized the importance of unity, mutual respect, and appreciation for India’s diverse cultures. The event, supported by the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), provided a platform for students to showcase their entrepreneurial spirit and creativity. Exhibition stalls were set up by students representing various states of India, displaying the rich cultural diversity of the nation. Students exhibited and sold a variety of items, including regional cuisines, handicrafts, crochet works, jewellery, and other handmade products. Overall, the event successfully blended cultural celebration with innovation and entrepreneurship, fostering a spirit of collaboration, creativity, and national integration among students.

National Seminar on “Decentralisation and Good Governance: Panchayat Raj System in 21st century

The Department of Political Science, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, at Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru, organized a National Seminar on “Decentralization and Good Governance: Panchayati Raj System in the 21st Century” on October 15, 2025. The seminar brought together scholars, academicians, and students to discuss the evolving dynamics of local governance and the role of Panchayati Raj Institutions in strengthening democracy at the grassroots level.
The event began with the inaugural ceremony, with the lighting of lamp and presided over by Rev. Fr. Dr. Augustine George, Vice-Chancellor of Kristu Jayanti University. In his Presidential Address, he highlighted the significance of decentralization as a cornerstone of participatory governance and emphasized the need for empowering rural institutions to ensure inclusive development.
The Inaugural Address was delivered by Prof. Vishnukant S. Chatpalli, Former Vice-Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi Rural Development and Panchayat Raj University, Gadag. Prof. Chatpalli elaborated on the challenges faced by Panchayati Raj Institutions in contemporary India and stressed the importance of digital governance, capacity building, and policy reforms to enhance local administrative efficiency. He noted the significance of grassroots governance through the panchayat system, which has roots in ancient practices and is crucial for addressing local challenges. The discussion aimed to foster understanding and collaboration in rural development efforts across India.

Campus Chat

The Electoral Literacy Club in collaboration with the Department of Political Science, successfully organized an event titled Campus Chat: Germany’s Electoral Landscape: Parties, Politics and Process, on 1st September, 2025 which featured two German students as guest speakers. The session was designed as an informal peer-learning experience, focusing on the political structure and party system of Germany. During the event, the speakers provided an overview of Germany’s federal political system, including the roles of the Bundestag, Bundesrat, and Chancellor. They elaborated on the multiparty system prevalent in Germany, highlighting major parties such as the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), Social Democratic Party (SPD), Greens, Free Democratic Party (FDP), and The Left.
The discussion also covered the proportional representation electoral system in Germany, its advantages in promoting coalition governments, and how it compares to other political systems globally. The session was interactive, with students actively engaging in questions, which fostered a deeper understanding of the nuances of German politics. The peer-learning approach made the event highly relatable and engaging, as students could directly interact with their German peers, gaining first-hand perspectives and clarifying common misconceptions.

Independence Day Program - Wings of Freedom: Dreams and Duties

The Department of Political Science, under the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Kristu Jayanti (Deemed-to-be) University, organized a Quiz and Extempore Competition as part of the celebrations for the 79th Independence Day of India. The event aimed to instill a sense of patriotism among students while enhancing their knowledge of Indian history, politics, and current affairs. The quiz competition was thoughtfully designed and divided into three engaging rounds, each testing different levels of understanding and awareness. Students from the Department of Political Science actively participated in the competition, showcasing their enthusiasm and team spirit. They were divided into groups, ensuring interdisciplinary collaboration and a healthy spirit of competition.
Following the quiz, the Extempore Competition provided a platform for students to express their thoughts on topics related to independence, democracy, national integrity, and youth participation in nation-building. Participants were given topics on the spot and had a minute to prepare before delivering their speeches. The spontaneous nature of the competition encouraged critical thinking and confidence in public speaking.

Capacity Building Training Programme on Life Skills

The Departments of Political Science and Media Studies, in collaboration with the Centre for Life Skills Education at Kristu Jayanti Deemed to be University, organised a Capacity Building Training Programme on Life Skills for the first-semester students of M.A. Journalism and Mass Communication and M.A. Public Administration. Held from July 25 to July 30, 2025, in Room H504, the training focused on developing ten essential life skills: Self-awareness, Empathy, Creative Thinking, Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, Decision Making, Communication, Interpersonal Relationships, Coping with Emotions, and Coping with Stress. These skills are fundamental in shaping a balanced, purpose-driven life. The sessions were designed to be interactive and reflective, encouraging students to actively participate, think critically, and engage in meaningful self-exploration.

Value-Added Course on "Dynamics of Management"

Department of Political Science offered a Value-Added Course titled "Dynamics of Management" was offered to third-year Bachelors’ students of Social Science with the aim of providing a foundational understanding of principles of management and their role in administration and governance. The course focused on human resource development such as office management, hierarchy, delegation, planning, leadership and Communication examining their role, structure, objectives, and impact on administrative and economic cooperation among member states. Special attention was given to understand the significance of managing human resource and concept of administrative improvement.
The course not only enhanced students’ theoretical understanding but also equipped them with practical insights into managing human resources and administrative services effectively. Overall, the value-added course contributed significantly to preparing students for professional roles in management and administration by strengthening their conceptual foundation and improving their managerial competencies.

Capacity Building Training on Life Skills Education 2025-26

The Department of Social Sciences and languages in association with Centre for Life Skills Education organised Capacity Building Training on Life Skills for I year BA HSPSSO students from 22nd July 2025 to 28th July 2025 in class room H305. The main focus of the training programme was to take the students through the ten pivotal life skills namely Self-awareness, Empathy, Creative Thinking, Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, Decision Making, Communication, Interpersonal Relations, Coping with Emotions, and Coping with Stress. These skills are essential for a holistic and purpose-driven life. The training session were very live and interactive. The outcome of the program has been highly encouraging. Students demonstrated increased self-awareness, improved peer interactions, and a better ability to manage stress and emotions. The Life Skills Classes have made a meaningful impact by equipping students with tools to navigate academic, personal, and social challenges more effectively.

Value-Added Course titled "Introduction to Regional Organisations"

Department of Political Science offered a Value-Added Course titled "Introduction to Regional Organisations" was offered to second-year Master’s students of Public Administration with the aim of providing a foundational understanding of regional organisations and their role in international governance. The course focused on key regional bodies such as the European Union (EU), ASEAN, SAARC, OSCE, SCO and Council of Europe, examining their origin, structure, objectives, and impact on political, economic, and security cooperation among member states. Special attention was given to India's participation in regional platforms and its strategic interests.
The programme combined traditional lectures with case studies, group discussions, and interactive activities to promote critical thinking and engagement. Students explored real-world examples of regional collaboration and conflict, enabling them to apply theoretical knowledge to current global scenarios. The course also encouraged debate on the effectiveness of regionalism as a response to globalisation and national challenges.

Expert Lecturer on Kabir ke pad

The Department of Hindi organised an expert lecture on Kabir ke pad by Kabir, delivered by Dr. Sreedhara P. D., Professor, Department of Hindi, Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University). Dr. Sreedhara presented the session with a detailed PPT, explaining the literary, cultural, and philosophical aspects of the poem. He Kabir’s main message is based on humanity, love, and equality. He taught that God is not confined to any particular religion, caste, or form of worship, but resides within every human being. Therefore, one should rise above external rituals, religious formalities, and divisions created in the name of faith to seek the ultimate truth. Through his couplets, Kabir opposed caste discrimination, blind faith, and religious fanaticism, inspiring people to follow the path of love, compassion, and brotherhood.
His second key message centers on self-realization and devotion to God. Kabir believed that when a person looks within, freeing themselves from ego, greed, and worldly attachments, and worships with a pure heart, they can truly experience the divine. He emphasized simplicity, humility, and truthfulness as the essential values of life. Kabir’s entire philosophy rests on the belief that the path to God does not pass through temples or mosques, but through humanity and love.
A total of 88 students attended the lecture, along with faculty members, making it a vibrant and engaging session. Students and faculty actively participated in the interactive discussion, which made the program highly thought-provoking. Overall, the lecture enriched the audience’s appreciation of Hindi kabir vani.

Sevan Days Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Hindi Literature and Research Methodology”

From 22nd September to 29th September 2025, the Department of Hindi Studies, Kristu Jayanti University, Bengaluru organized a seven-day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Hindi Literature and Research Methodology”.
The programme began with a welcome and inaugural address by Dr. Shreedhara P. D., Head of the Department of Hindi. The chief guest and keynote speaker of the inauguration was Professor Sunil Baburao Kulkarni, Director of the Central Hindi Institute, who delivered a lecture on the history, present, future, and relevance of research in Hindi literature. Eminent scholars and professors from various universities across India participated in the programme, including Prof. Puneet Bisaria, Prof. Vijaykumar Rode, Prof. Dhanyakumar Birjdar Jinpal, Dr. Mobin Jehruddin, Prof. C. Jay Shankar Babu, Prof. Rajesh Kumar Garg, and Prof. Suraj Kumar. They presented their views on diverse aspects of Hindi literature and research methodologies. Discussions highlighted the growing need and relevance of integrating research methodologies in the global context of Hindi language and literature. Scholars also shared insights on how to enrich Hindi research and explored different literary discourses, criticism, and linguistic approaches from new perspectives.
The FDP witnessed the participation of research scholars and faculty members from different universities and institutions across the country. The Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, Director of Humanities, Social Sciences and Languages, and Heads of Departments conveyed their best wishes for the success of the programme. The valedictory session was graced by Dr. Kaveri Swamy (Head, Department of Social Sciences and Languages) and Dr. Shreedhara P. D. (Head, Department of Hindi Studies), along with the entire faculty of the Hindi Department. Each day concluded with an interactive Question & Answer session, where students actively engaged with the speakers. The programme ended with a report presentation by the Head of the Department and a vote of thanks by the programme coordinator, Dr. Ganshetwar Sainath Nagnath.

Expert Lecturer Sairandhri

The Department of Hindi organised an expert lecture on Sairandhri by Maithilisharan Gupt, delivered by Dr. Sreedhara P. D., Professor, Department of Hindi, Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University). Dr. Sreedhara presented the session with a detailed PPT, explaining the literary, cultural, and philosophical aspects of the poem. He highlighted Draupadi’s character, the poet’s style, and the socio-cultural significance of the work. The lecture provided deep insights into Maithilisharan Gupt’s contribution to Hindi literature. A total of 161 students attended the lecture, along with faculty members, making it a vibrant and engaging session. Students and faculty actively participated in the interactive discussion, which made the program highly thought-provoking. Overall, the lecture enriched the audience’s appreciation of Hindi poetry and its enduring relevance.

Hindi Theatre Workshop
Date: 18 to 20 September 2025
From 18th to 20th September 2025, the Department of Hindi Language Studies at Kristu Jayanti Deemed to be University, Bengaluru, successfully conducted a three-day Hindi Theatre Workshop. The workshop was held daily from 09:00 AM -04:30 PM
Students from various streams participated enthusiastically. The session aimed to introduce students to the world of theatre, Mr. Hedayat Ahmad Rang munch Artist focusing on acting techniques, voice modulation, stage blocking, and improvisation.
The workshop began with a formal welcome by the Dr. Mohamed Nayaz Pasha followed by a short briefing about the importance of theatre in language learning and personality dev elopment. Participants engaged in warm-up exercises, voice training, and performed short skits to enhance their acting skills.
On the final day, students presented short group performances and received valuable feedback from the trainer, who encouraged them to actively take part in future theatre events.
Overall, the workshop was highly impactful and left students motivated to participate in future theatre activities.

Hindi Bhasha Utsav

On 16th September 2025, under the auspices of the Department of Hindi, Kristu Jayanti Deemed to be University, Bengaluru, the “Hindi Bhasha Utsav” was celebrated with great enthusiasm and dignity on the occasion of Hindi Day. The Chief Guest of the event was Dr. Khandare Chandu Laxman, Head of the Department of Hindi, Gandhigram Rural Institute (Deemed University). The program commenced with a prayer song, followed by a welcome address by Dr. Sreedhara P. D., Head of the Department of Hindi. In his introductory speech, he highlighted the historical journey of the Hindi language, its social relevance, and the academic achievements of the university’s Hindi Department while warmly welcoming the guests. Prof. Gopa Kumar, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, in his presidential address, stated that Hindi is not merely a medium of communication but also a powerful link that unites the diverse cultures of India. He urged that the study of Hindi should be connected with employment and research opportunities as well. The Chief Guest, Dr. Khandare Chandu Laxman, in his inspiring speech, shed light on the contemporary significance of the Hindi language and its global identity. He expressed that the future of Hindi lies securely in the hands of the younger generation. On this occasion, the books “Prabandhan Kaustubh” and “Vaanijya Kaustubh”, edited by the faculty members of the department, were also released. The event was graced by Dr. Kaveri Swamy, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages, and faculty members of the Hindi Department — Dr. Vinod Baburao Meghshyam, Dr. Mohammed Nayaz Pasha, Dr. Muslim Abdul Rajak, Dr. Ganashetwar Sainath Nagnath, Dr. Krishna D. Lamani, and Dr. Bendre Basaveshwar Nagorao. Also present were the Hindi Club Secretary, Arpit Asgar, and Disha Deshmukh.
The entire program was M C by undergraduate student Simran, and the vote of thanks was proposed by undergraduate student Pavani Shetty. The active participation of teachers and students made the celebration of Hindi Language Festival a memorable and highly successful event. As part of the Hindi Day celebrations, a series of five-day competitions were organized, including wall painting exhibition, essay writing, extempore speech, debate, song singing, creative writing, and elocution competitions. Around 250 students from various departments of the university enthusiastically participated and contributed to the success of the festival. The winners were awarded mementos and certificates, which further encouraged and motivated the participants.

Bhava ya Manovikar

The Hindi Department organized a special expert lecture on the topic "Emotion or Mental Disorder." The program aimed to provide students with a deeper understanding of emotions and mental disorders from a literary perspective and to clarify the relationship between life and literature.
The program began with a welcome to the guest. Following this, the invited expert lecturer presented his scholarly views. He discussed in detail the various states of emotions and the literary and social impact of mental disorders. The lecture clarified that the role of emotions and mental disorders in human life not only influences personal experiences but also plays a special role in literary expression.
Students also actively participated in the question-and-answer session and expressed their views. The program provided students with an opportunity to understand the subject in depth and further strengthened their interest and curiosity in literature. Finally, the Head of the Department expressed his gratitude to everyone, and thus the lecture concluded successfully, achieving its objectives.

She introduced students to different branches of archaeology, such as classical, ethno-archaeology, and underwater archaeology, citing Dwarka as an example. Emphasizing the role of scientific methods like carbon dating and isotope analysis, she highlighted how they ensure greater accuracy in tracing cultural development. Students enthusiastically participated by preparing organic dyes from everyday natural sources such as turmeric, beetroot, various leaves, coffee, and other plant-based materials. These vibrant, eco-friendly colours became the medium through which students showcased their artistic talents, creating unique pieces of art on paper.
The activity not only provided hands-on experience in extracting and using natural dyes but also deepened students' appreciation of traditional knowledge systems and their relevance in contemporary times. The host of the day was Ms. Ramya B. Senthil who expressed her admiration for the book, highlighting its engaging content and the importance of international collaboration in scientific progress.
The panelists emphasized the significance of cooperation in human progress, citing examples from history and the natural world. They noted that while competition drives evolution, cooperation has been instrumental in human success. The book's focus on the five C's - competition, cooperation, collaboration, conflict, and communication - was also highlighted. The session aimed to help students understand the realities of caste-based discrimination that continue to shape Indian society. After watching the documentary, which gave a powerful and thought-provoking portrayal of caste inequality, students shared their reflections through an engaging panel discussion. Manikandaraja M. and J. Sanjeev spoke about the persistence of caste in urban India and in Krishnagiri, while Mahima Kachhap explored how caste continues to influence Indian culture and shared lesser-known facts about its history. Yash Kumar discussed caste practices still present in Bihar, and Monisha R. and Trisha Chakma highlighted how caste discrimination has become normalized in many parts of the country. The discussions were heartfelt and deeply reflective, encouraging empathy, awareness, and critical thinking among the participants.

He also shared techniques for effective note-taking, distinguishing between various types of news content, and leveraging newspaper reading for competitive exam preparation. The event featured two esteemed resource persons: Dinu Veyil, Founder of NGO DHISHA, Kerala, and a researcher and social activist, and Dr. Lekshmi Chandran C.P, Assistant Professor in the Department of History at SRM University, Andhra Pradesh. Most of the themes were explored through activity-oriented methods, making the discussions highly engaging and participatory. Expert Talk Unemployment As Social Concern

The Department of Sociology organized an expert talk of the "Musings & Reflections" expert lecture series, titled "Unemployment as Social Concern”. Dr Tumbenthung, Economics and Statistics Officer, Government of Nagaland, India was the invited resource person. He started the discussion with the concepts of employment, market, labour, public and private sector. He further narrated how unemployment is a social concern in contemporary time period. Where individual of different socio-economic and cultural background reflect with their assigned identities. The lecture was well-received and prompted reflections on the need for critical thinking.

Movie Screening—The Intern & Panel Discussion On Ageing, Work And Relationship

The Department of Sociology at Kristu Jayanti College organized a movie screening of The Intern on February 11, 2025, for IV and VI semester BA PSSO students. The event aimed to provide a sociological perspective on ageing, work culture, and relationships in contemporary society. The session began with an introduction to the themes of the movie, highlighting its relevance to sociology. The screening of The Intern engaged students with its portrayal of an older adult navigating the modern workplace and the evolving nature of professional and personal relationships.
Following the screening, a panel discussion was conducted featuring three student panelists: Samyuktha Shylie, Lalminlen Singson, and Koushik D (BA PSSO VI Semester). The discussion focused on themes such as ageism in the workplace, changing family structures, mentorship across generations, and gender dynamics in leadership roles. The interactive discussion encouraged students to reflect on sociological theories and real-world applications.
The event successfully blended entertainment with academic inquiry, enhancing students’ ability to critically analyze contemporary social issues.

Food ooo Food - Diverse Foods and Shared Stories

The Department of Sociology at Kristu Jayanti College organized its first-ever food festival, "Food ooo Food," under the theme, Diverse Foods and Shared Stories on 14th February 2025, in the Humanities Block from 11:00 AM to 3:30 PM. The event celebrated the richness of global cuisines and their deep-rooted connections to society. The fest was inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Emmanuel P J, Director of Kristu Jayanti College of Law, who emphasized the role of food and its cultural appreciation.
The festival featured five stalls, from biryani to sinju to kimchi to chaat to drinks and various others, each depicting various regions and their cultures. The event had one message – food is not just a substance, rather it lays down the rich tapestry of history, traditions and social interactions. For instance, Kimchi and Axone Fried Rice showcased how fermented foods play and hold a significant role in Asian countries. The fest encouraged both participants and students to appreciate diverse cuisines, promoting inclusivity and created curious discussions on how food brings along memories packed with emotions. The event was a grand success, as many were excited to taste new flavors and revisit nostalgic ones. At the end of the day, Food ooo Food was not simply a food fest, rather it was celebration of culinary diversity and togetherness, creating unforgettable memories.

Expert Talk Empathy at Crossroads: Sociology in Clicks and Chaos

The Department of Sociology organized an expert talk of the "Musings & Reflections" expert lecture series, titled " Empathy at Crossroads: Sociology in Clicks and Chaos”. Dr Daisy Barman, GITAM, Bengaluru was the invited resource person. She started the discussion with the importance of sociology to develop sociological eye and sociological imagination. The idea of empathy was discussed to understand our surrounding. She borrowed different ideas of sociological thinkers such as Karl Marx, Max Weber, Emile Durkheim to bring their importance towards empathy. The lecture was well-received and prompted reflections on the need for critical thinking.

Echoes of Society: Native Narratives and Pocasts

The Department of Sociology at Kristu Jayanti College organized a workshop titled "Echoes of Society: Native Narratives and Podcasts" on January 23, 2025, for undergraduate students of sociology. The programme aimed to nurture sociological imagination and foster community bonding among students. The event began with an orientation and an icebreaker game, BINGO, where first-year students enthusiastically interacted with their seniors, setting an engaging tone. Participants were then divided into groups, mentored by senior students, to analyze and document the sociology of their native regions through discussion and collaboration. This activity was followed by a lively dance session that re-energized the participants. The final session involved podcast preparation, where groups received constructive feedback from senior mentors who have already prepared and published podcasts successfully in the last semester. The workshop concluded with a prize distribution ceremony for the BINGO winners. Balancing fun with learning, the event provided students a unique opportunity to explore sociological perspectives creatively and collaboratively.

Expert Talk ‘Yes this is a Fish Market: The Classroom and its Noises’

The Department of Sociology organized an expert talk of the "Musings & Reflections" expert lecture series, titled "‘Yes This Is A Fish Market: The Classroom And Its Noises’. Vijetha Kumar, Assistant Professor, St Joseph’s University, Bengaluru was the invited resource person. She started the discussion with a lived narratives of one of her classrooms as an assigned space. Her idea of fish market and its close depiction of classroom reflects the differences of a classroom se up. Where students of different socio-economic and cultural background reflect with their assigned identities. The lecture was well-received and prompted reflections on the need for critical thinking.
