Movie Review and Panel Discussion on Thappad
Date: 09 March 2026
The Department of Sociology, through the Sociology Club, organised a Movie Review and Panel Discussion on the film Thappad on 9 March 2026 from 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM at the H2 Auditorium, Humanities Block, for the students of III Year BA PSSO and I Year BA HSPSSO. The programme aimed to encourage critical reflection on issues such as gender equality, dignity in relationships, and the normalization of domestic violence portrayed in the film. Following the screening, a panel discussion was conducted by student presenters Megha Kashyap, Sonal Dutta, Sadanand B. Kamati, Nandana G. Krishna, and Shreya, who shared insightful perspectives on themes including power dynamics in marriage, individual self-respect, the role of law in addressing domestic abuse, and cinema as a tool for social awareness. The discussion created an engaging platform for dialogue, enabling students to connect cinematic narratives with sociological perspectives on gender, social norms, and everyday power relations.
