Physical Sciences Activities: Theory to Turf 1.0

The Department of Physical Sciences, School of Computational and Physical Sciences, organized Theory to Turf while considering the need for collaboration and critical thinking among students, which would bridge the gap between classroom theories and practice in real life. The debaters were given an opportunity to participate in the “Steelman Swap” type of debate, which required them to switch from arguing their position to presenting the opposition viewpoint. The event comprised ten teams and several rounds of debates on various topics, including the future of reservation policy, digital cash, and the gig economy. Apart from observing the critical thinking skills demonstrated by the debaters, one could notice how teammates collaborated to develop arguments for their chosen topic. Therefore, the debaters changed their perception of the issues after the final round of debates.


Physics Club Activity: Exploring Aerodynamics Through Hands-on Learning

The Department of Physical Sciences organized 3D PHYX, a physics-based club activity designed to foster scientific curiosity and experiential learning among B. Sc. CSPHEL students. The theme of the event was Basics of Aerodynamics, providing participants with an engaging platform to explore the principles of flight through both theory and practical application. The event commenced with an interactive theory session conducted by the fifth semester Physics students. They introduced participants to the fundamental forces involved in flight: thrust, lift, drag, and weight; explaining their roles in the science of aerodynamics. The session was highly engaging and provided participants with valuable insights into the physics behind aircraft flight.

Participants were then provided with materials to construct their own paper airplanes. Based on the creativity, design, and performance of the models, the 27 best participants were shortlisted and grouped into teams of three for the final challenge. The teams competed by applying the aerodynamic principles they had learned, and the top three teams were declared winners based on their overall performance. The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony held in the M3 Auditorium, where the winning teams were recognized for their innovation, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities.

3D PHYX successfully blended theoretical concepts with hands-on learning, enabling students to experience Physics through the lens of curiosity, creativity, and innovation. The activity not only strengthened participants' understanding of aerodynamic principles but also fostered teamwork, critical thinking, and practical application of scientific concepts, making it a memorable and enriching learning experience.


Maths Auction
Date: 18 July 2026
The Department of Physical Sciences successfully organized the Maths Auction under the Physical Sciences Club for III and V Semester students. The event provided students with an engaging platform to enhance their mathematical reasoning, analytical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills through a unique and competitive learning experience.

The event was conducted in three rounds. The first round witnessed the participation of 46 teams, where participants solved mathematical problems to qualify for the next stage. Based on their performance, 8 teams advanced to the second round, the Mathematics Auction, in which teams strategically bid on questions of varying difficulty levels and earned points by answering them correctly.

The final round featured 5 teams, who competed in the Mystery Mathematics Auction. In this round, teams strategically bid on mystery questions of different difficulty levels, earning points for correct answers. This stage tested not only their mathematical knowledge but also their strategic thinking, teamwork, decision-making, and confidence under pressure.

Dr. Timmy Tomy Thalavayalil and Dr. Ann Mary Joyson served as the judges for the event. The Maths Auction was a great success, encouraging active learning while providing students with a valuable platform to apply their mathematical and problem-solving skills in a challenging, competitive, and intellectually stimulating environment.


Electronics Circuit Quest and Mentorship Programme

The Department of Physical Sciences successfully organized Electronics Circuit Quest along with a one-to-one mentorship session for B.Sc. (CPE) students under the Physical Sciences Club. The technical event provided students with an opportunity to enhance their knowledge, analytical thinking, and practical skills in electronics through a competitive and experiential learning environment.

The event was conducted in three rounds. The first round, Logic Grid, witnessed the participation of 42 teams and tested the students' logical reasoning and problem-solving abilities. Based on their performance, 12 teams qualified for the second round, a quiz that assessed their understanding of core electronics concepts. The final round featured 7 teams competing in circuit-based challenges that evaluated their technical knowledge, teamwork, and practical skills.

Dr. Libin Baby and Dr. Amjad Hassan Khan M.K. served as the judges for the event. Electronics Circuit Quest successfully encouraged experiential learning and provided students with a valuable platform to apply their technical knowledge in a challenging, competitive, and engaging environment.


Physical Sciences Club Activities: Data Analysis and Statistics Quiz Competition

The Department of Physical Sciences, School of Computational and Physical Sciences, through the Physical Sciences Club, organized a series of competitions as part of National Statistics Day celebrations on 18th July 2026 for III and V Semester Statistics students. The event was coordinated and organized by the V semester student committee members with the objective of fostering active learning and encouraging greater student participation in statistical activities.

To make learning more interactive and engaging, the club conducted a Statistics Quiz and a Data Analysis Competition. The Statistics Quiz evaluated students' conceptual understanding, analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and communication skills through multiple rounds of questions. The Data Analysis Competition challenged participants to analyse a given dataset, interpret the findings, and present meaningful insights using appropriate tables, graphs, and charts.

The competitions provided students with a valuable platform to apply theoretical concepts to practical situations while enhancing their analytical and presentation skills. The event encouraged critical thinking, teamwork, and data-driven decision-making, making it an enriching and enjoyable learning experience for all participants.

The winners of both competitions were recognized and honoured with certificates and trophies in appreciation of their outstanding performance and enthusiastic participation.

“Guiding Lights – Empowering the Next Generation”

The Physical Sciences Club of the Department of Physical Sciences, , Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru, organised an electronics mentorship programme titled “Guiding Lights – Empowering the Next Generation.” The programme was held on 7th February 2026 at 10:00 AM in the Electronics Laboratory.

The event was organised by the VI Semester B.Sc CSEL students for the benefit of II Semester B.Sc CPE students, with the objective of providing academic guidance and practical exposure in electronics. The mentorship programme aimed to enhance conceptual understanding, improve laboratory skills, and promote peer-to-peer learning among students.

During the session, senior students guided the juniors through fundamental electronics concepts, laboratory experiments, and proper handling of electronic components. The mentors shared their academic experiences, clarified doubts, and offered valuable insights into effective study techniques and laboratory practices. The interactive approach encouraged active participation and open discussion.

The programme helped the junior students gain confidence in applying theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios. It also strengthened collaboration between different batches and created a supportive learning environment within the department.

Overall, the “Guiding Lights” Electronics Mentorship Programme was a successful initiative that fulfilled its objectives. It contributed positively to the academic development of the participants and reflected the university’s commitment to empowering students through mentorship and knowledge sharing.


Physical Sciences Club conducts “WATT’S UPP: High on Momentum”

The Physical Sciences Club of the Department of Physical Sciences, School of Computational and Physical Sciences, at Kristu Jayanti University organised "WATT’S UPP: High on Momentum" a Physics mentorship program on the 7th of February 2026 for first-year B.Sc. students of CPEA and CPEB, by final year BSc PHCS and PHEL students in the Physics Laboratory. The primary goal of this program was to inspire students and encourage their creative potential.

The program featured a variety of fun and interactive activities such as Dumb Charades, Hooke’s Law–based challenges, Physics Hypothesis, and other engaging games designed to spark curiosity and teamwork. Through these activities, students were able to explore physics concepts in a relaxed and enjoyable manner. The program also served as a valuable platform for interaction, helping first-year students connect with their peers and seniors, build confidence, demystify physics and ensure a friendly atmosphere within the department.

Overall, the “High on Momentum” session was a great success, leaving the first-year students with a renewed sense of confidence and a clearer perspective on their subject.


Anti-Ragging Week
Date: 12th -18th August 2025
The Department of Physical Sciences of Kristu Jayanti Deemed To Be University observed the Anti-Ragging Week from 12th – 18th August as per the UGC, by conducting Anti-Ragging Pledge, where the students of Physical Sciences took an oath in their classrooms guided by volunteers, with the support of the Anti-Ragging Committee.

Volunteers addressed students on the harmful effects of ragging and the importance of maintaining a respectful campus environment. Students then stood and recited the pledge, led by their respective class representatives and volunteers in the presence of the professors. Affirming their commitment to reject any form of ragging and to uphold a safe and inclusive atmosphere. The event was captured by the photography team and other volunteers.

The initiative saw full participation from all 3rd and 2nd year students of the department and served as a strong reminder of the department’s zero-tolerance policy towards ragging.
