Guest Lecture on Challenges and Opportunities in Food, Agribusiness and Plantations in an Emerging Economy

The Department of Commerce (UG), Kristu Jayanti Deemed to be University, Bengaluru, organized a guest lecture on “Challenges and Opportunities in Food, Agribusiness and Plantations in an Emerging Economy” on 11th March 2026 for all the Final Year students of B. Com the evolving landscape of the agricultural sector and its role in the national economy. The session was delivered by Dr. Naveen B. Ramu, Assistant Professor, Indian Institute of Plantation Management, Bengaluru, who shared valuable insights into the strategic management of plantations, supply chain complexities in agribusiness, and the emerging career opportunities for commerce graduates in the food industry. Through practical examples and real-world experiences, the resource person highlighted the importance of innovation in sustainable farming practices and the economic impact of global trade on local agribusiness ventures. The workshop was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Madhu Dhruvakumar, Head, Department of Commerce, and organized by Ms. Ankita Priti Roy and Ms. Jeevitha N T., Event Coordinators, with the support of faculty members. The interactive session proved to be highly informative and beneficial for the participating students.

Expert Lecture on Constitutional Values and Civic Responsibility

The Department of Commerce under the School of Commerce, Accounting and Finance at Kristu Jayanti University organized an Expert Lecture on “Empowering Youth through Constitutional Values and Civic Responsibility” for M.Com and M.Com Finance & Accounting (FA) students on 13 March 2026 at 2:00 PM in A1 Auditorium, Admin Block.
The session was delivered by Debarghya Bhattacharya, Assistant Professor at the School of Law, Kristu Jayanti University. The lecture aimed to enhance students’ understanding of constitutional principles, civic duties, and the role of youth in strengthening democratic values.
During the session, the resource person highlighted the importance of constitutional awareness among young citizens and explained how the values embedded in the Constitution guide responsible citizenship, ethical leadership, and social accountability. The discussion also emphasized the fundamental rights and duties of citizens, encouraging students to actively participate in civic life and contribute to nation-building.
The lecture provided valuable insights into how constitutional values influence governance, law, and public policy, and why it is essential for students—especially those pursuing higher education in commerce and finance—to develop a strong sense of civic responsibility and ethical decision-making.
Students actively engaged in the session through questions and discussions, making the program interactive and enriching. The expert lecture served as an important platform for students to reflect on their role as responsible citizens and future leaders.

Expert Talk on Step into Banking: Careers, Exams, and Preparations
Date: 23 January 2026
The Centre for Competitive Examinations, Kristu Jayanti University, organised a career guidance session on banking at the A2 auditorium in the administrative block on 23rd January 2026. The special lecture titled “Step into Banking: Careers, Exams, and Preparations” was open for all UG and PG students. Mr Philip Mathew MA, the academic head and lead consultant of T.I.M.E. Bangalore, addressed the students and outlined the opportunities available to them. The resource person highlighted the importance of banking as a promising career when compared to entry-level executive jobs. In his session, he mentioned that graduates may find themselves stuck in entry-level jobs, but banking offers an opportunity for students to exit the campus with a degree certificate and enter into a more secure career path. The session offered the students foundational knowledge about banking career options, examination patterns, and preparation strategies. While concluding the session, the resource person advised the students that 150 hours of dedicated work could reshape their future paths, emphasising that dedication and hard work are essential. The foundational knowledge of banking careers and the preparation strategies were the key takeaways of the expert session.

Expert Lecture Series - Career Pathways in SAP

The Department of Commerce, School of Commerce, Accounting and Finance along with School of Business and Management at Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru, organised an Expert Lecture on “Career Pathways in SAP” on 22nd January 2026. The session was delivered by Mr. Rahul Sachdev, Director India Sub-continent, SAP University Alliances, and was specially designed for the SAP enrolled students of second-and final year B.Com B.Com, PAF, BBA and PMS department. A total 308 students have been participated in the Expert Talk. Aimed at fostering ethical awareness and decision-making skills among aspiring finance professionals, the talk enabled participants to explore real-world ethical dilemmas in Career paths in ERP - finance and the importance of making responsible carriers in SAP. It further equipped them with critical thinking abilities and ethical frameworks, preparing them to uphold trust and integrity in their future careers.

Expert Talk on Microgreens for Sustainable Living: Building Green Entrepreneurship and Community Well-Being

The Department of Commerce, under the School of Commerce, Accounting and Finance, organised an Expert talk on Microgreens for Sustainable Living: Building Green Entrepreneurship and Community Well-Being. The session commenced with a formal welcome and introduction of the resource person, following which Dr. Shalini Singh delivered an insightful and engaging lecture highlighting the growing relevance of microgreens in the context of sustainable development and entrepreneurial ventures. She explained the concept of microgreens, emphasizing their high nutritional value, short cultivation cycle, and low investment requirements, which make them particularly suitable for start-ups and student entrepreneurs. The lecture focused on how microgreens can be effectively integrated into viable business models, especially in urban and semi-urban settings. Dr. Shalini Singh elaborated on the economic viability of microgreens, discussing cost–benefit aspects, pricing strategies, and supply chain opportunities across local markets, restaurants, and the wellness sector. She also highlighted the role of microgreens in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In addition, the session addressed the importance of community engagement, employment generation, and environmental responsibility, thereby establishing a strong linkage between commerce, sustainability, and social entrepreneurship.

Expert Lecture on Indian Accounting Standards

The Department of Commerce, School of Commerce, Accounting, and Finance, Kristu Jayanti University, organised an Expert Lecture on Indian Accounting Standards – Ind AS 10 on 19th September 2025. The session was led by Dr. Jayalakshmi K U, Assistant Professor, St. Joseph’s University, Bengaluru, who shared her valuable insights on the nuances of Ind AS 10 and its practical applications in financial reporting. The expert lecture aimed to enhance Final year students’ understanding of accounting standards, bridge the gap between theory and practice, and prepare them for professional challenges in the field of commerce and accounting. The interactive session provided participants with conceptual clarity as well as practical exposure, thereby enriching their academic and professional knowledge.

Expert Talk on “The Entrepreneur’s Compass: Lessons from Startup Founders on Balancing Vision, Risk, and Reality”

The Entrepreneurship and Innovation Centre (EIC) and the Department of Commerce, in association with the Asian Institute of Family Managed Business (AIFMB), organized Vision to Victory Series I on 10th September 2025. The session was conducted for I Year B.Com students, with Mr. G. Guruvayurappan, Founder and CEO of Cera-Therm International, Nagasandra, Bengaluru, as the distinguished resource person. He delivered a talk on “The Entrepreneur’s Compass: Lessons from Startup Founders on Balancing Vision, Risk, and Reality.” Through real-life examples, he emphasized the importance of entrepreneurial vision, calculated risk-taking, and practical decision-making in business. The session highlighted how challenges can be turned into opportunities with perseverance and innovation. Students gained a deeper understanding of startup dynamics and the critical balance between aspirations and realities. The interactive session encouraged active participation, enabling students to clarify doubts and learn from his entrepreneurial journey. The program created an inspiring learning environment and motivated students to cultivate an innovative and resilient mindset. As a token of appreciation, the resource person was honored with a sapling, symbolizing growth and sustainability. Overall, the session proved highly beneficial, leaving students motivated to explore entrepreneurship with confidence and creativity.

Navigating the Grey Zone: Ethical Challenges and Choices for Tomorrow’s Finance Professionals

The Department of Commerce, School of Commerce, Accounting and Finance at Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru, organised an Expert Talk on “Navigating the Grey Zone: Ethical Challenges and Choices for Tomorrow’s Finance Professionals” on 8th September 2025. The session was delivered by Dr. Manjunath M S, Dean of the School of Law, and was specially designed for the second-year B.Com students. A total 200 students have been participated in the Expert Talk. Aimed at fostering ethical awareness and decision-making skills among aspiring finance professionals, the talk enabled participants to explore real-world ethical dilemmas in finance and the importance of making responsible choices. It further equipped them with critical thinking abilities and ethical frameworks, preparing them to uphold trust and integrity in their future careers.

Expert Lecture on “Review of Literature and Research Design”
Date: 22 August 2025
The School of Commerce, Accounting and Finance, Department of Commerce, under the banner of Yuvashodhan Club, organised an Expert Lecture on “Review of Literature and Research Design” on 22nd August 2025.
The session was conducted by Dr. C. Gomathy, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, PSGR Krishnammal College for Women, Coimbatore. She emphasized the role of a systematic literature review in building a strong foundation for research and discussed strategies to organise and analyse existing studies. She also guided students in designing appropriate methodologies to ensure the quality and validity of research.
The lecture saw the enthusiastic participation of 75 B.Com students across I, II & III Year, who engaged in discussions and clarified their doubts. The session was highly beneficial in enhancing their understanding of structuring academic research.

Expert Lecture on “Research Problem – Objectives & Hypothesis”

The School of Commerce, Accounting and Finance, Department of Commerce, under the banner of Yuvashodhan Club, organised an Expert Lecture on “Research Problem – Objectives & Hypothesis” on 21st August 2025.
The session was delivered by Dr. L. Nithya, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, PSGR Krishnammal College for Women, Coimbatore. She highlighted the significance of identifying the right research problem as the foundation of research study. Dr. Nithya also explained the formulation of clear objectives and the development of hypotheses that align with research goals.
The lecture witnessed the active participation of 85 students from I, II & III Year B.Com, who gained practical insights into the initial stages of the research process. Students appreciated the clarity of explanation and found the session enriching for their academic growth.

Expert Lecture on “Intellectual Property & Ecommerce: Legal and Ethical Consideration”
Date: 02 April 2025
Department of Commerce, Kristu Jayanti College organised a workshop titled “Intellectual Property & E-commerce: Legal and Ethical Consideration” The event was conducted on 02/04/2025 between 10.30 AM and 12 Noon at the M2 auditorium, main block. Dr. Jagdeep Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Professional Management, Kristu Jayanti College was the resource person, and the final-year B. Com A, B& C section students were the beneficiaries. During the session, Dr. Singh introduced the fundamentals of Intellectual Property to the students. He designed the sessions to benefit commerce students in the corporate arena.
During the session, he explained different types of intellectual properties. He also highlighted the relevance of legal and ethical considerations related to the intellectual property, which needs to be prioritised by all the aspiring professionals. The session educated the students on patents, trademarks, copyrights, Geographical indicators and the Industrial designs. The students were told how this specific knowledge can make them well-aware individuals and better decision makers in their future career path.
The valuable insights of the resource person equipped the participants with fundamental knowledge about the IPR. Based on the valuable intakes’ students can caution themselves while dealing with the patented technologies or copyrighted materials, also they will take initiatives to protect their innovations and ideas with economic viability.

Expert Lecture on “Thriving Under Pressure: Stress Management Strategies for Entrepreneurs”
Date: 20 January 2025
Department of Commerce, Kristu Jayanti College organized an expert lecture session in collaboration with the institution's innovation council and Asian Institute of Family Managed Business On 20th January 2025. The session was conducted online via Zoom between 4.40 PM and 5.40 PM. The session was titled “Thriving Under Pressure: Stress Management Strategies for Entrepreneurs”. Mr. Hitesh Adwani, Director of Choice Fashions Pvt.Ltd was the resource person of the evening. The official commencement of the session was initiated with the invocation song, which progressed through a welcome address, expert session, and vote of thanks, and it ended up with the institution's official anthem.
The expert lecture series of the entrepreneurial cell focuses on awareness, skill-building, and confidence-boosting. In this session, Mr. Hitesh shared the insights from his solid experiences. He emphasizes the necessities of self-belief and spontaneity to outshine the Apparel & fashion field. He advised the youngsters that the role of data and digital are inevitable to succeed while operating in the Fashion Clothing sector. He suggested to the young business aspirants that, finding a shortcut to succeeding in any industry is difficult, hence one must develop the skill sets and the abilities to deal with volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and the ambiguities (VUCA) of the business to sail in the boat of an entrepreneur. He suggested that surviving in the VUCA is the practical stress management lesson from an entrepreneur’s diary.
Final year B. Com students were the primary beneficiaries of the session. The inspirational session of the dynamic entrepreneur motivated the enthusiastic young minds to aim further in the entrepreneurial space. Mr. Hitesh taught the dreaming youth that, entrepreneurial success is not an outcome of mere innovation or idea generation. The willingness to face the hurdles and the ability to withstand the pressure is the key to journeying toward success. The inspirational session of the dynamic entrepreneur motivated the enthusiastic young minds to aim further in the entrepreneurial space. Mr. Hitesh taught the dreaming youth that, entrepreneurial success is not an outcome of mere innovation or idea generation. The willingness to face the hurdles and the ability to withstand the pressure is the key to journeying towards success.

“Expert Insights on Tax and ITR Management: From Planning to Filing”

The Department of Commerce (PG) at Kristu Jayanti College successfully organized a workshop titled “Expert Insights on Tax and ITR Management: From Planning to Filing” on the 23rd of August, 2024. The virtual event, held via Zoom, provided participants with valuable knowledge and practical insights into tax planning and Income Tax Return (ITR) filing. The workshop featured two key sessions: the first, led by Dr. A. Lydia Arockia Mary, Assistant Professor at Stella Maris College, Chennai, focused on tax planning strategies. Dr. Lydia provided an overview of effective techniques for optimizing tax liability through proactive financial management. The second session, conducted by Mr. Shreenidhi B S, Assistant Professor at St. Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangalore, threw light into the technical aspects of Income Tax Return (ITR) filing. Mr. Shreenidhi guided participants through the filing process, offering practical tips and advising on common pitfalls to avoid. The sessions were well-received, and the resource persons were commended for their clear and insightful presentations. This event underscores the Department of Commerce (PG)'s commitment to providing quality educational opportunities that equip students and professionals with essential skills for financial management.

Guest Lecture on "Upholding Integrity: Navigating Professional Ethics in Today's Workplace”
The Department of Commerce (PG) is organized a Guest Lecture on "Upholding Integrity: Navigating Professional Ethics in Today's Workplace” on 13-08-2024 between 2.40 PM to 3.40 PM in M Auditorium , Main Block for the benefit of our III Semester M.Com & M.Com FA Students. The resource person for the Expert Talk was Ms.Sonal Pawar M.Com., CMA., R & D Controller ,(Financial and Planning Specialist), ABB Ltd.
The Resource Person emphasized the critical importance of professional ethics in shaping students' personal growth and career success. The Expert Speaker effectively illustrated her insights with numerous real-life industry cases, making the session both engaging and informative. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, where many students actively sought to clarify their doubts and deepen their understanding of the relevance of professional ethics in commerce and business.
