Workshop on “ITR Filing & Smart Tax Planning for Young Professionals

The Department of Commerce (PG), Kristu Jayanti Deemed to be University, Bengaluru, organized a workshop on “ITR Filing & Smart Tax Planning for Young Professionals” on 11th March 2026 for the students of M.Com and M.Com (FA) to enhance their awareness of tax compliance and financial planning. The session was delivered by CA. Suresh Kumar Mani, Executive Director – Accounting, CSG Systems, Bengaluru, who shared valuable insights into the practical aspects of Income Tax Return (ITR) filing, tax deductions, and effective financial planning for young professionals. Through practical examples and real-world experiences, the resource person highlighted the importance of responsible tax compliance and informed financial decision-making. The workshop was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Cherian Thomas, Coordinator, and organized by Dr. Pushpa and Dr. Mohan Kumar R., Event Coordinators, with the support of faculty members. The interactive session proved to be highly informative and beneficial for the participating students.

Workshop on “Commercial Microgreen Farming (CMF) for Aspiring Ecopreneurs: A Pathway to Sustainable Startup Venture”

The Department of Commerce, under the School of Commerce, Accounting and Finance, organised a Workshop on “Commercial Microgreen Farming (CMF) for Aspiring Ecopreneurs: A Pathway to Sustainable Startup Venture” on 16th February 2026 at A408, 4th Floor, Admin Block. The session was conducted for B.Com students with the aim of introducing them to sustainable startup opportunities in the agri-business sector.
The programme commenced with a formal welcome and introduction of the resource person. Ms. Latha and Ms. Rachel delivered an insightful and practical session explaining the concept of microgreens, their nutritional benefits, short cultivation cycle, and minimal investment requirements. She elaborated on the step-by-step cultivation process including seed selection, tray preparation, watering techniques, harvesting methods, and maintaining hygiene standards.
The session further focused on the commercial viability of microgreen farming. The resource person discussed cost estimation, pricing strategies, packaging methods, branding, and identifying potential markets such as local vendors, supermarkets, restaurants, and health-conscious consumers. She shared her entrepreneurial journey and highlighted how microgreens can be transformed into a profitable and sustainable startup venture.
The workshop was interactive, with students actively engaging in discussions and clarifying queries related to investment, profit margins, scalability, and marketing strategies. The session successfully connected academic knowledge with practical entrepreneurial applications and inspired students to consider sustainable business initiatives.

Workshop on Financial Leverage Using Equity and Option Market Business Model

The Department of Commerce, under the School of Commerce, Accounting and Finance, successfully organised a Workshop on Financial Leverage using Equity and Option Market Business Model for I and II Year M.Com and M.Com (FA) students on 19th January 2026 at the M3 Auditorium, Science Block. The workshop was led by Dr. Amuthan Rathinam (MBA, M.Com, M.Phil, ACS (Inter), Ph.D, MISTE), who provided in-depth insights into equity markets, options trading, and the practical application of financial leverage in business decision-making. The session focused on bridging theoretical concepts with real-world market practices, enhancing students’ analytical and investment-related skills. The programme was interactive and well-received, contributing significantly to students’ understanding of modern financial instruments and market strategies.

Impulse 2025- An Intra Collegiate Commerce Fest
Date: 02 September 2025
The Department of Commerce (PG), Kristu Jayanti University, proudly organized its annual intra-collegiate fest, IMPULSE 2K25, on 2nd September 2025. The event was exclusively designed for the first-year M. Com and M. Com FA students, bringing together 70 enthusiastic participants eager to demonstrate their talent, knowledge, and skills in the field of commerce.
The theme of this year’s fest, “Kairos – The Perfect Moment”, is rooted in the Greek concept of seizing the right opportunity and making it count. This theme captured the essence of the fest, inspiring participants to rise to the occasion, think critically, and showcase their potential in every challenge they faced
The programme was graced by the presence of Mr. Rakesh Jain, Talent Acquisition Head at Grant Thornton, who encouraged students to embrace opportunities with confidence and determination. The fest featured a variety of intellectually engaging events across key commerce domains such as auditing, taxation, financial analysis, investment banking, fintech, and teaching. Each competition was carefully designed to bridge academic knowledge with practical application, allowing participants to experience real-world problem-solving while honing their teamwork, leadership, and decision-making skills.
IMPULSE 2K25 served as more than just a competition; it was a celebration of learning, collaboration, and growth. The fest created a vibrant platform for students to channel their creativity, analytical abilities, and professional acumen, while also fostering healthy competition and camaraderie. With its meaningful theme and impactful events, the fest successfully helped students seize their “Kairos” moments, preparing them to become future-ready leaders in commerce and finance.

UGC-NET and JRF Training
Date: 29 August 2025
An orientation session on UGC-NET and JRF was conducted Dr. Devi Prasanna and Ms. Ashwini S.V for the Commerce PG students to provide them with insights into the examination, its process, eligibility, and overall significance.
The session began with an overview of UGC-NET, highlighting its objectives and the academic opportunities that it offers. Details regarding the exam pattern, including Paper I and Paper II, were explained in detail.
Students were also informed about the career prospects after qualifying, such as lectureship and Junior Research Fellowship.
The interactive discussion segment enabled participants to clarify their doubts and queries, making the session highly informative and engaging for the students.

Knowledge Exchange Session on Start-up Incubation and Acceleration: Government Schemes and Opportunities

The Department of Commerce, School of Commerce, Accounting and Finance, in collaboration with the Kristu Jayanti Incubation Centre and the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Centre, organized a Knowledge Exchange Session on Start-up Incubation and Acceleration: Government Schemes and Opportunities on 28th August 2025 at 10:00 AM in the M4 Auditorium. The session was facilitated by Mr. Prabhu Gandhi Jain, a Start-up and Atal Incubation Consultant, and was attended by students of M.Com and M.Com FA (I & II Year). The objective of the program was to create awareness about incubation, acceleration, and government support systems that empower young entrepreneurs. The event began with an invocation, welcome address, and introduction of the chief guest. In his address, Mr. Jain emphasized transforming innovative ideas into viable businesses, highlighting the role of incubation centres in nurturing start-ups. He explained the journey from ideation to prototype, funding strategies, and the significance of mentorship and scaling opportunities. He further outlined government initiatives such as Atal Innovation Mission, NIDHI Schemes, and Atal New India Challenges, stressing their importance for aspiring entrepreneurs. The session was highly interactive, with students gaining clarity on incubation models, funding avenues, and the entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Seminar on Professional Ethics
Date: 21 August 2025
The Department of Commerce organized a Seminar on Professional Ethics as part of its Capacity Building Training on Life Skills. The seminar titled “The Time Line Between Right and Wrong: Ethics for Future Financial Leaders” was conducted on 21st August 2025. The primary objective was to create awareness among postgraduate commerce students on the importance of professional ethics. A total of 61 students from M.Com and M.Com (FA) actively participated in the session. The resource person was Dr. Manjunath M.S., Faculty, Kristu Jayanti College of Law. He delivered an insightful lecture on ethics in the corporate and financial sectors. The session stressed values of honesty, accountability, fairness, and transparency. Real-life case studies and ethical dilemmas were discussed for practical understanding. Students were encouraged to critically analyze ethical challenges and explore solutions. The session also emphasized social awareness and sustainable business practices. It fostered critical thinking, decision-making, and moral reasoning skills among students. The department acknowledged the enthusiastic participation and positive impact of the programme. Overall, the seminar prepared students to become responsible and value-driven financial leaders.

Workshop on “From Spark to Spotlight: Empowering Student Research Ideas into Publications”

The School of Commerce, Accounting and Finance, Department of Commerce, under the banner of Yuvashodhan Club, organised a workshop on “From Spark to Spotlight: Empowering Student Research Ideas into Publications” on 19th August 2025 at A3 Auditorium.
The session was led by Dr. Rajakamal CH., Associate Professor, Department of Professional Management Studies, who addressed the importance of cultivating a research mindset among undergraduate students. He emphasized that research begins with curiosity and critical thinking, and guided students on how to transform innovative ideas into structured research papers suitable for publication. He highlighted key aspects such as identifying a research problem, formulating objectives, reviewing literature effectively, and maintaining academic integrity.
The workshop drew active participation from around 210 B.Com students (I, II & III Year), who engaged enthusiastically in discussions and interactive activities.
The programme was well-coordinated by Dr. C. Nagadeepa, Associate Professor, Department of Commerce. Students appreciated the session as highly motivating and insightful, giving them confidence to take their first steps into the world of academic research.

Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights
Date: 19 August, 2025
The Department of Commerce, Kristu Jayanti deemed to be University, organised a workshop on Intellectual Property Rights on 19/08/2025 between 10 AM and 11 AM at the A3 auditorium, admin block. Adv. Aparna Monon and Adv. Brijesh M. Singh were the resource persons, and the final-year B. Com A, B, C, D & E section students were the beneficiaries. During the session, Adv. Aparna introduced the fundamentals of intellectual property to the students. Then the session was taken over by Adv. Brijesh, who explained different types of intellectual properties. He emphasised the importance of prioritising legal and ethical considerations related to intellectual property for all aspiring professionals. The session educated the students on patents, trademarks, copyrights, geographical indicators, and industrial designs. The students were told how this specific knowledge can make them well-aware individuals and better decision-makers in their future career path. The valuable insights provided by the resource persons helped the participants gain fundamental knowledge about intellectual property rights (IPR). Based on the valuable insights gained, students can protect themselves when dealing with patented technologies or copyrighted materials; additionally, they will take initiatives to safeguard their innovations and ideas for economic viability.

The Department of Commerce PG organized the Workshop on 28th October 2024, Monday from 01:40 p.m. to 03:30 p.m. for the I M.Com. and I M.Com. FA Students. Dr. K Kiran Kumar focused on theoretical and practical exposure on Investment in the stock market and the steps to create the portfolio in the stock market. He exposed many strategies that intra-day traders use. He focused on the Japanese candle stick method and various sub methods which are involved in predicting the future of stock price trajectory. A virtual trading platform was used to demonstrate and identify these strategies.

A virtual trading platform was used to demonstrate and identify these strategies.
