International Media Conference 2026

The Department of Media Studies at Kristu Jayanti (Deemed-to-be university) on April 6th and 7th organized a two-day international media conference titled “Media, Culture and Identity: Exploring Global Narratives and Intersections”, bringing together media professionals, academicians and students to deliberate on the evolving role of media in shaping culture and identity in a globalized world. Chief Guest Mr. Nagesh Prabhu, Senior journalist at The Hindu, Bengaluru, spoke on the transformation of journalism and the expanding role of digital platforms. He noted that India hosts one of the largest media markets, with digital media gaining prominence due to a growing young audience. However, he pointed out that despite its rapid expansion, the digital media sector still contributes a relatively small share of overall print industry revenue, while expressing optimism about its future growth. Dr. Swapna Gopinath from the Symbiosis Institute of Media and Communication, Pune, spoke on contemporary digital narratives surrounding womanhood and identity. She discussed the emergence of women content creators engaging with themes of feminism, traditional gender roles and evolving social expectations. The conference concluded with academic deliberations, encouraging critical thinking and deeper engagement with global media narratives among participants.

International Conference- Global Dialogues in Communication Design: Bridging Cultures, Embracing Technologies

Department of Media Studies of Kristu Jayanti College, in association with Robert Gordon University, Scotland, hosted an International Media Conference focusing on the theme “Global Dialogues in Communication Design: Bridging Cultures, Embracing Technologies”, bringing together experts and scholars to explore the evolving media landscape in the digital age. The resource person for the event was Mr. Himanshu Shekhar Mishra, Senior Editor, NDTV India, New Delhi. He spoke on Journalism in the New Information Age, Advent of New Communication Technologies, and Redefinition of News Gathering Processes. He underscored the profound impact of emerging technologies on journalism and news dissemination. Drawing on his field experiences, Mr. Mishra shared how mobile journalism has redefined reporting, recalling an incident where he covered an election single-handedly using just a smartphone.
Mr. Mishra said that the advent of social media and advanced communication technologies have redefined the contours of conventional journalism. He further said that social media has become the gateway of news flow in society. He urged budding journalists to embrace digital tools and adapt swiftly to the changing media environment. If you do good journalism, the world is the limit for you, he added. He also highlighted the growing complexities of reporting from disaster-hit zones and stressed the significance of adaptability and continuous learning in modern journalism.
