Techne is a platform that enables visual communication students to critically appraise various visual forms such as paintings, sculptures, architecture, films, graphic designs, advertisements, or any other visual forms. Students are encouraged and motivated to actively engage in analyzing the artistic content, style, and period in which it was created and promoted.


Student Presentation Series Explores the Visual Poetry of Film Director Wong Kar Wai

On January 9, 2026, the Department of Media Studies at Kristu Jayanti College (Deemed to be University) hosted an insightful installment of its "Techne: Forum for Visual Analysis". The session, titled "Whispers of Time: Ace Film Director Wong Kar Wai’s Visual Poetry," was held at the H2 Auditorium, Humanities Block.

The presentation was facilitated by Sneha B S, a student of BA Visual Communication. Sneha provided an in-depth analysis of the director's cinematic techniques, guiding her peers through the complex visual language that characterizes his work. The event drew a diverse audience of students from BA and B.Sc Visual Communication, BA Journalism and Mass Communication, and BA Media and Communication.

The session concluded with a formal recognition of the presenter’s efforts. Dr. Aby Augustine, Head of the Department of Media Studies, facilitated the presentation of a Certificate of Appreciation to Sneha B S, acknowledging her academic contribution. This presentation series continues to serve as a vital platform for students to engage in critical discourse and share creative expertise within the academic community.

Techne Forum Examines the Cultural Impact of Disney Media

The Department of Media Studies, under its visual analysis forum, Techne, organized an insightful student presentation titled "The Disney Effect: How Magic Shapes Our Life." The event was held on September 25, 2025, in the H2 Auditorium, Humanities Block.

Facilitated by Varun Kumar K, a second year BA Journalism and Mass Communication student, the session explored the profound cultural and societal impact of the Walt Disney Company. Varun’s presentation critically examined how Disney’s magical narratives and iconic characters influence global perceptions of morality, aspiration, and reality. The talk delved into the ideological underpinnings of Disney’s storytelling, questioning how the carefully constructed 'magic' shapes our collective consciousness and personal lives.

The presentation was specifically designed for students of Visual Communication, Journalism, and Media and Communication. It served as a dynamic platform to foster critical thinking and media literacy, encouraging students to analyze the powerful influence of media giants. The engaging session concluded with a lively discussion, enriching the students' understanding of contemporary media landscapes. The session concluded with a felicitation, wherein Ms. Sreelakshmy K K, a faculty member from the Department of Media Studies, formally acknowledged Mr. Varun Kumar K’s exemplary presentation with a certificate.


Techne 2025 Opens with Insightful Session on the Art and Craft of Animation
The Department of Media Studies, Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be) University, inaugurated this year’s Techne: Forum for Visual Analysis with an engaging student presentation on “Frames in Motion: Exploring the Craft of Animation.” Held on 1st September 2025 at M3 Auditorium, the session was facilitated by Ms. Aisha Ali Syed, a V Semester BA Visual Communication student.

The presentation offered valuable insights into the creative and technical aspects of animation, focusing on how movement, design, and narrative interplay to create compelling visual storytelling. Ms. Aisha highlighted the relevance of animation in contemporary media and its role in shaping both artistic expression and audience perception.

The session encouraged participants from Visual Communication, Journalism and Mass Communication, and Media and Communication to explore animation as both an art form and a communication tool. Following the presentation, an interactive Q&A session deepened the discussion. The event concluded with Prof. Aby Augustine, Head of the Department, felicitating the facilitator with a certificate of appreciation.
