The Department of Forensic Science, School of Biological and Forensic Sciences, organised a Guest Lecture on the topic “Economic Offences in Everyday Life: How Money Crimes Affect You More Than You Think” on 02 February 2026 from 2.00 PM to 3.00 PM at the M4 Auditorium, Main Block for the First Year Forensic Science students, with a total of 92 beneficiaries.
The session was delivered by Ms. Aakanksha Sunil, SOC Analyst, Terrapay Limited Solutions. The resource person highlighted the increasing prevalence of economic and financial crimes in everyday life, including online frauds, digital payment scams, identity theft, phishing, and other cyber-enabled money crimes. She explained how such offences directly impact individuals, businesses, and the broader economy.
Through real-life examples and practical insights from her professional experience, she emphasized the importance of digital awareness, financial literacy, and preventive measures that individuals must adopt to safeguard themselves from financial frauds and cyber-enabled economic offences.
The session was highly informative and interactive, providing students with a clear understanding of contemporary economic offences and their growing relevance in the field of forensic science and cybercrime investigation. Expert lecture on Accreditation and Standardization in Forensic Science: Understanding the Framework of NABL, BIS, and ISO

An expert lecture on “Accreditation and Standardization in Forensic Science: Understanding the Framework of NABL, BIS, and ISO” was organized by the Department of Forensic Science for M.Sc. Forensic Science I and III Semester students. The session, delivered by Dr. Priyanka Gopi, Assistant Professor at Amity University, Noida, explained the importance of quality assurance in forensic laboratories to ensure accuracy, reliability, and legal validity of forensic results.
She described the role of NABL, which accredits forensic laboratories based on ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO/IEC 17020 to ensure technical competence, validated methods, proper documentation, and consistent results. The contribution of BIS in developing Indian standards for forensic procedures, instruments, and laboratory practices was highlighted as a key step toward uniformity across the country. She also emphasized the importance of ISO, whose international standards including ISO/IEC 17025, ISO/IEC 17020, and the ISO 21043 series provide globally recognized benchmarks for forensic processes. Together, NABL, BIS, and ISO create a unified quality framework that enhances the efficiency, accuracy, and trustworthiness of forensic investigations. It provided valuable insights that will help students understand and effectively apply the principles of accreditation and standardization in forensic science

The Mind Behind the Crime-Forensic Psychology Guest Lecture

The Department of Forensic Science, School of Biological and Forensic Sciences, Kristu Jayanti College (Autonomous), organised an expert lecture titled “The Mind Behind the Crime” on 30th October 2025 for the second-year B.Sc. Forensic Science and B.Sc. Forensic Science, Criminology, and Biochemistry students. The session was delivered by Dr. E. Sinu, Additional Professor, NIMHANS, Bengaluru, who shared his expertise on the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) and the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-V).
Dr. Sinu elaborated on the significance of these classification systems in understanding and diagnosing various psychological and behavioural disorders. He also discussed the theories of criminal behaviour, emphasizing biological, psychological, and sociological perspectives that contribute to criminal tendencies. Through real-world examples and case illustrations, he highlighted how mental health assessments aid in offender profiling and criminal investigations.
The interactive session encouraged students to engage in thoughtful discussions, broadening their understanding of the relationship between mental health and criminality. The session aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the diagnostic frameworks used in the classification of mental disorders, emphasizing their significance in forensic applications.
The lecture witnessed the active participation of 61 postgraduate students from the M.Sc. Forensic Science programme, who gained valuable insights into the conceptual and practical dimensions of mental health assessment. The session by Dr. S Bala Shanthi Nikketha, Project Consultant, Department of Psychosocial Support in Disaster Management, NIMHANS provided an in-depth overview of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) and the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), highlighting their roles in forensic psychiatry, psychological evaluation, and medico-legal investigations. Through case-based discussions and interactive engagement, participants were able to appreciate the importance of accurate diagnostic interpretation in forensic contexts.

Forensic Science I and II Year students on 17th October 2025. The session was conducted by Dr. Ranu Nayak, Professor at the Amity Institute of Nanotechnology, Amity University, Noida, and Founder & Director of USESORB Nano Solutions Pvt. Ltd. Drawing on her vast experience in Materials Science and Engineering, Dr. Nayak provided valuable insights into developing effective research designs and selecting suitable data collection tools.
Dr. Nayak emphasized the importance of a well-structured research design in achieving clarity of objectives, reliable sampling, and credible results. The lecture also covered various data collection methods such as questionnaires, interviews, and observation techniques highlighting accuracy, reliability, and ethical practices in research.

The Department of Forensic Science, School of Biological and Forensic Sciences, Kristu Jayanti University, organised a guest lecture titled “Guruvani- Insights from the Masters of Forensic Science” on 13th October 2025 at 12:00 noon in Audi M4, 4th Floor, Science Block. The esteemed resource person for the session was Dr. Rukmani Krishnamurthy, the first eminent lady forensic scientist of the country and Chairperson of Helik Advisory Lab, Pune.
The session witnessed active participation from 81 beneficiaries comprising M.Sc. Forensic Science students from both first and second year. Dr. Krishnamurthy shared valuable insights from her extensive professional journey in forensic science and emphasized the importance of ethical practices and precision in forensic investigations. She elaborated on various career opportunities, emerging research areas, and interdisciplinary approaches within the field. The students enthusiastically interacted with her, raising queries about job prospects, research collaborations, and current trends in forensic science.
Dr. Krishnamurthy also discussed recent developments and news in the forensic domain, inspiring students to stay updated with scientific advancements. The session was highly informative and motivational, enriching student’s understanding of the vast potential and evolving nature of Forensic Science in India.

Expert Lecture on Silent Witnesses: Forensic Entomology

A guest lecture titled “Silent Witnesses: Forensic Entomology”, was organised by the Department of Forensic Science, School of Biological and Forensic Sciences, for the V Semester students of Forensic Science and Forensic Science and Biotechnology. The session witnessed a total of 116 participants.
The session was delivered by Dr. Shashikumar L, who captivated the audience with his informative presentation on the fascinating field of forensic entomology. He began by introducing the subject as a crucial branch of forensic science that uses the study of insects to aid criminal investigations. Dr. Shashikumar explained how insect activity on decomposed remains can provide valuable insights into the time since death (post-mortem interval) and other circumstances surrounding a crime. Through compelling examples and real-life case studies, he illustrated how maggot and fly colonization patterns have been successfully used to solve cases of homicide and suspicious deaths.
He emphasized the scientific importance of understanding insect life cycles, habitat preferences, and succession patterns in relation to the stages of human decomposition. The lecture also shed light on the role of forensic entomology in uncovering hidden evidence, such as detecting drug or poison residues within insect specimens. In addition, Dr. Shashikumar introduced students to the latest advancements and research trends in this field, emphasizing its growing significance in strengthening court trials and aiding justice delivery.
Dr. Shashikumar concluded with a strong message that insects, often overlooked in daily life, can become silent witnesses in unravelling the truth of a crime. The lecture left students inspired, highlighting the vital role of forensic entomology in modern-day criminal investigations.

Awareness Session On Anti-Ragging Laws

As part of its ongoing commitment to ensuring a safe and inclusive campus environment, TRACE, Forensic Science Club of Kristu Jayanti Deemed to be University, Bengaluru organized an "Awareness Session on Anti-Ragging Laws" as part of Anti ragging awareness week on 14th August 2025 at 11:00 am for M.Sc. first and second-year students Forensic Science students. The session aimed to sensitize students about the serious psychological and legal implications of ragging and to reinforce the university’s zero-tolerance stance in accordance with UGC guidelines. Students viewed official UGC-produced videos highlighting real-life impacts and the strict legal framework in place against ragging. To reinforce learning, a mandatory online quiz was conducted post-screening via Google Forms, helping assess students’ understanding of the content. The initiative successfully fostered awareness and responsibility among students, furthering the university's mission to maintain a ragging-free, respectful, and safe academic environment.

Sc. Forensic Science Students. The session was delivered by Mr. Abdul Shareef Pallivalappil, Senior Consultant – DFIR, TALFOR, Bengaluru, and was attended by students of the I and III Semester M.Sc. Forensic Science programs.
Mr. Shareef shared valuable insights into the importance of both proactive and reactive forensic strategies in addressing today’s complex cybersecurity challenges. He highlighted proactive measures such as forensic readiness and continuous monitoring, as well as reactive approaches involving evidence handling, chain of custody, and post-incident investigations. The lecture also covered essential career skills, certifications, and upskilling opportunities in digital forensics, supported with real-world case studies from industry practice.
The session was highly interactive, with students actively engaging in discussions and clarifying their queries. The Department of Forensic Science, School of Biological Sciences and Forensic Sciences Kristu Jayanti Deemed-to-be University, Bengaluru, organized an expert lecture titled “Case Analysis in Forensic Chemistry” for the B.Sc. Forensic Science 3rd year students. The session was conducted with the objective of bridging theoretical knowledge with real-world forensic practices by introducing students to actual case scenarios encountered in forensic chemistry.
The resource person for the session was Mr. Rahul Das, a seasoned forensic professional from CFSL Bhopal and an active research scholar at Jain University, Bengaluru. With his dual expertise in professional casework and academic research, Mr. Das provided valuable insights into how chemical evidence is handled, analysed, interpreted, and presented in the context of criminal investigations.
The session began with a formal welcome and introduction of the speaker, followed by an in-depth lecture that covered case-based discussions involving the detection of poisons, analysis of trace chemical residues, and interpretation of forensic toxicological results. Mr. Das emphasized the role of analytical techniques like GC-MS, FTIR, and chromatography in solving real cases. He also discussed the importance of maintaining the chain of custody, adhering to laboratory protocols, and preparing reports suitable for legal proceedings.

The session was led by Mr. Rohith Krishna, a distinguished Doctoral Researcher at the Centre for Mass Spectrometry Imaging, Biomolecular Sciences Research Centre, Sheffield Hallam University, Sheffield, UK. Mr. Krishna, an expert in mass spectrometry applications, captivated the audience with his in-depth knowledge and engaging presentation on Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization (MALDI) techniques and their role in molecular fingerprinting.

The session aimed to enhance students' understanding of the critical role played by Central Police Organizations (CPOs) in maintaining national security, public order, and supporting the criminal justice system. Mr. Hemanth Kumar V provided a comprehensive overview of prominent agencies such as the CBI, NIA, IB, NCRB, and others, explaining their organizational structures, operational functions, and coordination mechanisms.

Expert Lecture on Comparison of New and Old Criminal Laws

An expert lecture was organized for the II semester students of B.Sc. Forensic Science, FS CRBC, and FSBTBC on April 05, 2025. The topic of the session was "Comparison of New and Old Criminal Laws," delivered by Ms. Sridevi Dakshinamurthy, a renowned legal expert and academician.
The session aimed to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the evolution of criminal laws in India, focusing on key differences between the traditional criminal law frameworks (such as the Indian Penal Code, Criminal Procedure Code, and Indian Evidence Act) and the newly introduced laws like the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam.

Awareness on Security Features of QR Code

As part of the academic extension initiative, the IV semester students of B.Sc Forensic Science, and BTFS conducted an awareness drive on April 5, 2025. The event took place in the local areas of Kothanur, Bengaluru. The students interacted with the local community, including shopkeepers, senior citizens, and daily commuters, and explained how QR codes function and the potential threats like phishing, malware, and financial frauds.
Pamphlets and posters in both English and Kannada were distributed for better understanding. Demonstrations were given using sample QR codes to help residents differentiate between safe and potentially harmful codes. Students also highlighted the importance of verifying QR codes before making any digital transactions. Many participants expressed appreciation for the useful information shared. The event helped bridge the knowledge gap regarding cyber safety at the grassroots level.
