National Symposium on Justice through Science: From Field to Forum

The Department of Forensic Science, School of Biological and Forensic Sciences at Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be) University organized a National Symposium titled “Justice through Science: From Field to Forum” on 5th November 2025. The event aimed to bridge the gap between scientific investigation and judicial processes by emphasizing the significance of forensic science in delivering justice. It brought together experts, academicians, researchers, and students from various institutions across the country.
The symposium commenced with an inaugural session addressed by Dr. I. M. Ali, Principal, College of Dental Sciences, Davangere. In his address, he highlighted the growing importance of forensic science in modern criminal justice systems and the need for multidisciplinary collaboration to ensure accuracy and reliability in evidence analysis. Session 1 was delivered by Dr. Suresh Bada Math, Professor, Department of Forensic Psychiatry, NIMHANS, Bengaluru. He provided deep insights into the intersection of mental health and law, focusing on forensic psychiatric evaluations, criminal responsibility, and expert testimony in court. Session 2 featured Dr. Navjot Kaur Kanwal, Head and Associate Professor, Department of Criminology and Forensic Science, Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya, Chhattisgarh. She discussed advances in criminology, crime scene reconstruction techniques, and the role of scientific documentation in strengthening criminal investigations. In Session 3, Dr. Mohan Kumar P, Professor, Department of Oral Pathology and Forensic Odontology, College of Dental Sciences, Davangere, elaborated on the applications of forensic odontology in human identification, bite mark analysis, and age estimation. His session emphasized the precision and scientific rigor required in dental evidence interpretation. Session 4 was conducted by Mr. Purshothama P., Advocate and Company Secretary, Bengaluru, who addressed the legal dimensions of forensic science. He explained how forensic evidence is presented in courts, the importance of adherence to legal procedures, and the challenges faced by experts during cross-examinations.
Throughout the event, participants engaged in meaningful discussions, case study analyses, and interactive Q&A sessions. The symposium successfully underscored the vital role of scientific methods in ensuring justice from meticulous field investigations to the final presentation of evidence in judicial forums. The program concluded with closing remarks that highlighted the symposium’s contribution to academic growth, professional development, and the promotion of science-driven justice. The event served as a valuable platform for knowledge enhancement and collaboration among students, researchers, and practitioners in the field of forensic science.
