Placement Orientation & Training Programme (POTP) – “GATE 2027: Opening a Passage”

The Department of Forensic Science, School of Biological and Forensic Sciences, in collaboration with the Centre for Employability and Corporate Relations (CECR), organised a Placement Orientation & Training Programme for final-year students of B.Sc. Forensic Science, B.Sc. FSCRBC, and B.Sc. FSBTBC on 17 August 2026.
Titled “GATE 2027 – Opening a Passage”, the session was conducted by Prof. Sen B Mathews, Director of CECR, at the H2 Auditorium, Humanities Block, from 3:00 PM onwards. The programme equipped students with essential employability skills, interview readiness, professional grooming, and strategies to align academic knowledge with industry expectations. The interactive session offered clarity on career pathways and boosted confidence for upcoming placement drives.
A total of 192 final-year students benefited from the initiative, marking an important step in their transition from academic learning to professional careers.
The Department of Forensic Science and CECR remain committed to providing holistic training and career guidance to prepare students for success in their chosen fields.
SWAYAM–NPTEL Course Orientation Programme

The School of Biological and Forensic Sciences, Department of Forensic Science, organised a SWAYAM–NPTEL Course Orientation Programme on 14 August 2026 for 1242 students of the Department of Forensic Science.
The orientation session was conducted by Mr. Akhil Benny and Ms. Aathmika S., Assistant Professors, Department of Forensic Science. The programme was organised with the objective of familiarising students with the SWAYAM and NPTEL platforms and encouraging them to enrol in relevant online courses for academic and professional development.
During the orientation, the faculty members introduced students to the SWAYAM–NPTEL online learning ecosystem, including the process of identifying suitable courses, registering for courses, accessing video lectures and learning materials, completing weekly assignments, and appearing for certification examinations. Students were also briefed on the academic value of NPTEL certifications and how successfully completed courses can complement their regular academic programmes.
The session highlighted the importance of continuous learning, skill enhancement, and industry-oriented knowledge through recognised online courses. Students were encouraged to select courses aligned with their academic interests and career goals, particularly in areas related to forensic science, digital forensics, cybersecurity, and allied disciplines.
The orientation provided students with clear guidance on making effective use of national-level online learning platforms and encouraged them to actively participate in SWAYAM–NPTEL courses as part of their academic and professional development.
Department Orientation and campus tour for first years

The Department of Forensic Science organised a Department Orientation and Guided Campus Tour for the newly admitted first-year undergraduate and postgraduate students on 1st August 2026. The objective of the programme was to warmly welcome the students, familiarize them with the department and the institution, and help them transition smoothly into their academic journey.
The orientation session was conducted by the Head of the Department, Mr. Don Caeiro, who introduced the students to the department's vision, academic curriculum, laboratory facilities, faculty members, departmental regulations, code of conduct, examination guidelines and the various academic and co-curricular opportunities available. He also motivated the students to actively participate in research, skill development activities, workshops, and extension programmes throughout their course.
Following the orientation, a guided campus tour was organised for all first-year students. The tour was efficiently coordinated and volunteered by the final-year B.Sc. Forensic Science students, who assisted the newcomers in exploring the campus and familiarized them with important facilities such as classrooms, laboratories, library, administrative offices, auditorium, cafeteria, sports facilities, and other student support services.
The orientation and campus tour received an enthusiastic response from the students. The interaction with faculty members and senior student volunteers helped create a welcoming and supportive environment, enabling the freshers to become familiar with the department, campus facilities, and academic expectations. The programme concluded successfully, marking a positive beginning to the students' academic journey at the institution.
LMS Orientation

An LMS (Learning Management System) Orientation was organised for newly joined faculty members to familiarize them with the institution's digital teaching and learning platform.
The session aimed to provide faculty with a comprehensive understanding of the LMS, including course creation and management, uploading learning resources, creating and grading assignments, managing assessments, tracking student progress, and facilitating effective communication with students. A live demonstration of the platform's key features and functionalities was conducted, enabling participants to gain hands-on experience in using the system for academic activities.
The orientation equipped the faculty members with the knowledge and confidence required to effectively integrate the LMS into their teaching practices, thereby enhancing digital pedagogy, streamlining course management, and promoting an engaging and technology-enabled learning environment.
Orientation on Effective Course Plan Making

The School of Biological and Forensic Sciences, Department of Forensic Science, conducted an Orientation on Effective Course Plan Making on 27/06/2026. The orientation aimed to familiarize faculty members with the IQAC-prescribed course plan format to ensure uniformity, consistency, and standardization in course planning across the department. The session provided guidance on preparing course plans in accordance with institutional requirements, promoting quality assurance and effective academic planning.
Orientation on Professional Ethics: A Guiding Framework

The Department of Forensic Science organised an orientation session on “Professional Ethics: A Guiding Framework” for first and second year M.Sc. Forensic Science students. The session was attended by 85 participants, making it an interactive and meaningful learning experience for all.
The resource person, Mr. Akhil Benny, Assistant Professor, Department of Forensic Science, delivered an insightful talk focusing on the significance of professional ethics in the field of forensic science. He provided students with a practical and reality-based understanding of how ethical principles play a crucial role in their future careers. The session highlighted key values such as integrity, honesty, objectivity, and accountability, which are essential for forensic professionals while dealing with sensitive evidence and legal procedures.
The speaker also shared real-life scenarios and workplace expectations, helping students understand the challenges they may face as they transition from academics to professional roles. Emphasis was placed on maintaining ethical standards even under pressure, thereby ensuring justice and credibility in forensic investigations.
Overall, the session was highly informative and thought-provoking, equipping students with the necessary ethical framework and preparing them to step confidently into their professional journeys in the field of forensic science.
