Digital Poster Presentation Competition On New Criminal Laws Of India For Bsc Forensic Science

On 6th February 2026 (Friday) from 01:40 PM onwards, the Department of Forensic Science, School of Biological and Forensic Sciences, Kristu Jayanti University, organized a Digital Poster Presentation Competition for first-year, second-semester B.Sc. Forensic Science students as part of their “Criminal Law” assignment.

The theme, “New Criminal Laws of India: BNS, BNSS, and BSA, 2023,” focused on the reforms introduced under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, highlighting their relevance to forensic science and the criminal justice system. A total of 31 groups (four students each) presented their digital posters at the M1 Auditorium, Science Block. Faculty members from Kristu Jayanti College of Law served as judges, offering valuable feedback.

The event strengthened students’ understanding of the new criminal laws while enhancing their research, analytical, and presentation skills.


Orientation Programme on Household and Village Survey
Date: 20 September 2025
An Orientation Programme was conducted by the Department of Forensic Science, School of Biological and Forensic Sciences as part of the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) activities to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills for conducting field surveys in the village assigned to the Department. The programme focused on familiarizing students with the objectives of the survey, data collection methodology and the use of structured questionnaires prescribed under UBA. Emphasis was laid on understanding key socio-economic indicators, ethical considerations and effective communication with the local community.

A total of 26 students actively participated in the orientation programme conducted by Mr Manjunath S, Assistant Professor, Department of Management, Kristu Jayanthi (Deemed to be University). The session was interactive and encouraged active participation from students. The training significantly enhanced students’ skills and motivation to engage in community-based activities. Overall, the orientation programme successfully prepared students for the household and village survey and reinforced the institution’s commitment to rural development and community engagement under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan.


Awareness on Mental Health

The Department of Forensic Science, School of Biological and Forensic Sciences, organised an extension activity for the first-year M.Sc. Forensic Science students on Mental Health Awareness on 15th September 2025 at Kothanur. The programme aimed to sensitize the community about the importance of mental health, common psychological challenges, and the significance of early intervention and support systems.

The session included interactive discussions, awareness talks, and engaging activities to break the stigma surrounding mental illness. Students highlighted topics such as stress management, anxiety, depression, coping strategies, and the importance of seeking professional help. Pamphlets and posters were also distributed to convey key messages in a simple and impactful way.

The activity benefitted around 59 participants, who responded enthusiastically by actively engaging in discussions and sharing their perspectives on mental health. This initiative not only helped spread awareness but also encouraged open dialogue about mental well-being, thereby fostering a supportive environment.


Forensic Science Students Foster Civic Sense in K Narayanapura Community

On September 7, 2025, our proactive Second Year FSCRBC students from Sections A and B conducted a highly successful extension activity on "Civic Sense Awareness" in the K Narayanapura region of Bangalore. Engaging directly with local residents and businesses, the students aimed to cultivate a deeper understanding of civic responsibilities, emphasizing the importance of shared community values, mutual respect, and courtesy in public spaces. The initiative's effectiveness was confirmed through a pre- and post-activity analysis, which revealed a significant increase in awareness among the participants. The local community warmly appreciated the effort, highlighting the program's relevance and practical value. This event stands as a proud testament to our students' commitment to creating a positive impact beyond the campus walls.


Extension activity on QR code and Over-the-counter drug awareness

Students of Department of Forensic Science, M.Sc. III Semester, organized an Extension activity on 30th August 2025 in the K. Narayanapura region to create awareness among local shopkeepers, vendors, and residents. A total of postgraduate students from Serology and Cyber specializations actively participated in sensitizing the community on critical issues related to over-the-counter (OTC) drugs and QR code security in digital transactions.

During the visit, the students explained the nature and risks of OTC drug misuse, highlighting how unsupervised consumption can lead to health complications, dependency, or misuse. Preventive measures and the importance of consulting healthcare professionals were emphasized. At the same time, with the increasing use of digital payments, the Cyber specialization students addressed the technical aspects of QR codes, common fraud practices, and safe methods for secure transactions. Real-life examples, case discussions, and demonstrations were included to make the sessions practical and relatable. A pre- and post-questionnaire survey was conducted with the beneficiaries, which clearly showed improved awareness after the sessions. Shopkeepers and residents acknowledged the importance of the topics, expressing appreciation for the timely initiative.

The feedback analysis revealed highly positive responses, with most participants rating the sessions as relevant, engaging, and impactful. This extension activity not only contributed to community health and digital safety awareness, but also provided students with the opportunity to connect their academic learning with real-world issues, thereby reinforcing their role as socially responsible professionals.


Awareness on security features of currency notes

On 30th August 2025, the Department of Forensic Science organized an extension activity on “Awareness on Security Features of Currency Notes” for the shopkeepers of K. Narayanapura and Kothanur. A total of 111 students from III Semester, Sections A and B, actively participated in this outreach initiative.

The program aimed to empower shopkeepers with essential knowledge to identify genuine currency notes and protect themselves from financial losses due to counterfeit circulation. Students conducted direct interactions with shop owners and demonstrated key features such as the watermark, security thread, micro-lettering, latent images, see-through register, and color-shifting ink. Shopkeepers were shown how to quickly verify these features during daily transactions without the need for special equipment.

The extension activity received positive responses, as shopkeepers expressed greater confidence in handling cash securely. For students, it was an opportunity to apply their forensic knowledge in a real-world setting and contribute to community welfare. This initiative highlighted the importance of forensic science in addressing everyday challenges and promoting financial safety at the grassroots level.


Internship Presentation – V Semester B.Sc. Forensic Science and Biotechnology

The V Semester students of B.Sc. Forensic Science and Biotechnology successfully completed their 30-day internship program in reputed governmental and non-governmental organizations. The internship was designed to provide students with valuable hands-on experience and an opportunity to understand the professional applications of their academic learning.

During the program, students were exposed to a wide range of activities including laboratory procedures, analytical methods, evidence handling, report preparation, and administrative functioning. These experiences allowed them to connect classroom concepts with real-world practices, thereby enhancing their technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

After completion of the internship, each student submitted a comprehensive report highlighting their learning experiences, key observations, and takeaways. As part of the academic evaluation, students also presented their reports before faculty members and peers. The presentations showcased their exposure to different organizations, the scope of work undertaken, and the professional skills they developed. The internship presentation not only reflected the knowledge gained but also improved their communication and presentation abilities. This initiative proved to be a significant step in bridging the gap between theory and practice, preparing the students for future academic pursuits and professional careers in forensic science and biotechnology.


Waste Management as part of Environmental Sustainability

On 11th August 2025, the III Semester FSBTBC students of the Department of Forensic Science undertook an extension activity on Waste Management as part of Environmental Sustainability in the K. Narayanapura and Kothanur regions. A total of 66 students actively participated in this outreach program under the guidance of Ms. Annapoorni Ammal. The activity aimed to create awareness among local shopkeepers about the importance of effective waste management, proper waste segregation, and the need to adopt sustainable practices for a healthier environment. Students interacted directly with shopkeepers and residents, highlighting practical aspects such as reducing single-use plastics, recycling methods, and separating biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste. The session also emphasized the long-term benefits of clean surroundings for health, hygiene, and community well-being. The initiative was well-received by the beneficiaries, as reflected in pre- and post-questionnaire responses, which showed improved understanding and positive shifts in behavior. The impact of the program was visible in the willingness of participants to adopt waste segregation and eco-friendly alternatives in their daily lives. This extension activity not only created awareness and promoted sustainable practices in the community but also provided students with valuable experiential learning by applying their academic knowledge to real-world challenges.


Awareness on Security Features of QR Code

As part of the academic extension initiative, the IV semester students of B.Sc Forensic Science, and BTFS conducted an awareness drive on April 5, 2025. The event took place in the local areas of Kothanur, Bengaluru. The students interacted with the local community, including shopkeepers, senior citizens, and daily commuters, and explained how QR codes function and the potential threats like phishing, malware, and financial frauds.

Pamphlets and posters in both English and Kannada were distributed for better understanding. Demonstrations were given using sample QR codes to help residents differentiate between safe and potentially harmful codes. Students also highlighted the importance of verifying QR codes before making any digital transactions. Many participants expressed appreciation for the useful information shared. The event helped bridge the knowledge gap regarding cyber safety at the grassroots level.


Awareness about Crime Scene Preservation

On April 1, 2025, the second-semester B.Sc. Forensic Science students conducted an extension activity aimed at spreading awareness about crime scene preservation. The students visited local shops, markets, and public spaces, engaging with shopkeepers, customers, and pedestrians to educate them on the importance of not disturbing a crime scene before forensic experts arrive Students explained the significance of preserving evidence and avoiding contamination. Informational pamphlets highlighting key Do’s and Don’ts were distributed to the public. Public queries regarding crime scene protocols and forensic investigation procedures were addressed. The activity received positive responses, with shopkeepers and locals appreciating the students' efforts in spreading crucial forensic awareness. This initiative not only enhanced public knowledge but also gave students practical exposure in communicating forensic science principles to society.
