National Level Inter University Fest ‘LA FETE 2026’

The Department of English, Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University) successfully organised its National Level Inter University Fest, LA FETE 2026 on 2nd February, 2026 bringing together students from various institutions to celebrate language, literature, and creative expression. The fest featured a range of engaging and competitive events that tested participants’ literary, critical, and communicative skills. With enthusiastic participation from multiple colleges, the event provided a vibrant platform for intellectual exchange and artistic exploration. The winners were recognised with certificates and mementoes. La Fete 2026 reaffirmed its role in fostering creativity, encouraging academic engagement, and promoting a spirit of healthy competition among young literary minds.


Kristu Jayanti University holds Kristu Jayanti Literary Fest (KJLF) 2026

Department of English hosted the Kristu Jayanti Literary Fest (KJLF’26) 2026 in collaboration with Deccan Herald on Wednesday on 28th January. The literary fest brought together writers, academicians, and students for discussions centred on literature, language, and contemporary thought. Delivering the Presidential address, Fr. Dr. Augustine George, Vice Chancellor of Kristu Jayanti University, spoke about how literature reminds us to take a pause and reflect on the joy of reading. He emphasised writing as a sustained intellectual practice rather than purely academic exercises. The inaugural address was delivered by celebrated and Sahitya Akademi award-winning writer, journalist and translator, Mr Jerry Pinto. He pondered on the discipline required to write with clarity and honesty, and encouraged the audience to address serious concerns of society in their writings. Other thought-provoking and engaging sessions included those of Orijit Sen, Dr Shalini Srinivasan, Daniel Sukumar, and Dr Lynley Edmeades from the University of Otago. KJLF 2026 concluded on a resounding success, establishing itself as a premier literary and academic gathering that fostered not only the power of storytelling but a deeper understanding of human experience and societal shifts.


Serving Stories: A Literary Food Experience at Kristu Jayanti University

The Department of English, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Kristu Jayanti University, organised a Literary Food Exhibition on January 13, 2026. The event was inaugurated by Fr. Dr. Marialal Joseph, Director, Research & Development and Director, Centre for Global Networking and Collaborations, Kristu Jayanti University. In his inaugural address, he highlighted the deep connection between food, culture, and storytelling, and appreciated the innovative efforts of the Department of English in blending literary studies with experiential learning.

The exhibition creatively blended literature and cuisine through various themes such as Heritage & Traditional Foods, Dessert Heaven, Global Street Food Festival, Food & Fairytales, Feasts of Fiction, Regal Banquets, and Divine Delights. The exhibition showcased how food functions as a powerful symbol in literary texts, cultural practices, and sacred traditions across the world.

Students showcased the cultural, literary, and symbolic significance of food through interactive stalls and displays. The event was well received and highlighted innovative learning through the integration of literature, culture, and culinary arts.

Oberiu ’25 - Intradepartmental Fest
Date: 14 October 2025
The Department of English, Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru, organised Oberiu ’25 on 14 October 2025 based on the theme Mosaic: Fragmenta Concordiae - Fragments in Harmony, celebrating unity in diversity through creativity and expression. The event began with a presidential address by Dr. Gopakumar A. V., Dean of Humanities, appreciating the department’s dynamic student community. Ms. Kapila Nahender, Visual Artist, delivered an insightful session on mosaic art and its legacy in the ancient Roman world. The valedictory ceremony featured an inspiring address by Fr. Joshy Mathew, who encouraged students to embrace creativity, lifelong learning, and feedback as pathways to growth. Team MILLEFIORI was declared the Overall Winner, and Joshua B. (I MA English Literature) was honoured as the Fest Laureate. Oberiu ’25 celebrated talent, collaboration, and literary spirit, inspiring students to pursue excellence in their creative journeys.


Delphia 2025 - Vitam Redit

The Department of English, in association with the Erudite Club, organised Delphia, an intra-departmental fest on 30th September 2025 with the theme Vitam Redit. The fest comprised six on-stage events—Stage of Ages, The Past’s Judgement, Crime Chronicles, Revival Rhythms, Ad Epoque, and Flashback Frenzy—along with three off-stage events—Lexical Relics, Headlines from History, and Once upon a Cover. The inaugural address was delivered by Dr. Gopakumar, Dean, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, at 9:30 a.m., followed by the successive on-stage events. A spectacular annual live exhibition was also displayed in the A2 Auditorium, which was witnessed by students from various departments. The valedictory session was chaired by Dr. Sreedevi Santhosh, Head of the Department of English, and Dr. Saranya Narayan, UG Coordinator. The fest organisers, Barnashree Khasnobis, Dr. Merrin R.S. and Dr. Thejas Gigy Thomas, distributed certificates and mementoes to the winners, followed by a group photo session. The fest concluded at 5:00 p.m.


Annual Intercollegiate Literary Fest ‘LA FETE 2025’

The Department of English, Kristu Jayanti College, Autonomous, organised annual intercollegiate literary fest, ‘LA FETE 2025’. The fest catered to the theme “Sein und Zeit: Begin and Time,” which converges language, literature, and pop culture through 12 innovative and competitive events. The vibrant La Fete garnered the participation of students from diverse institutions, who showcased their creative aptitudes and literary expertise. The fest was inaugurated by the distinguished Lt. Col. Dr. Sonia Cherian, a retired medical professional with fourteen years of military service. Dr. Cherian is also the author of Indian Rainbow, a work inspired by her military experiences. Fr. Dr. Augustine George, Principal of Kristu Jayanti College, presided over the event, emphasizing how departmental fests bridge the past, present, and future, connecting them through the spirit of competition. Fr. Joshy Mathew, Head of the Department of English, Dr. Lyola Thomas, and Prof. Jerrin Jose, the coordinators of the Department, Dr. Uma Maheshwary and Ms Shivani P Menon fest coordinators also addressed the gathering. The fest encompassed many competitions, including slam poetry, creative writing, mad ads, intellectually stimulating quizzes, impromptu speeches, jam sessions, cosplay, enlightening personality assessments, and air crash. The winners of all the events were honoured by memento and certificate. La Fete is a literary journey that allows students a platform to express themselves and engage in intellectual discourse. It aims to inspire young minds, foster a love for literature, and celebrate the art of communication. With student participation across twenty colleges, La Fete was a resounding success, sustaining its reputation as a premier literary event.
