Academic Extension Activity on Intrapersonal Relationships
Date: 17 March 2026
The Academic Extension Activity on Intrapersonal Relationships, organised by the Department of English, Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University), is a thoughtfully designed initiative aimed at nurturing self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and reflective thinking among first-year BA English students. Scheduled on 17th March 2026 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon at the Government Lower Urdu Primary School, the programme provides students with an opportunity to step beyond the classroom and engage in meaningful community interaction.
This activity focuses on helping students understand their inner selves—their thoughts, emotions, strengths, and personal values—while also encouraging them to communicate these insights effectively. By interacting with school children and participating in guided reflective exercises, students will develop empathy, confidence, and a deeper sense of responsibility. The programme not only enhances intrapersonal communication but also promotes holistic learning, enabling students to connect academic knowledge with real-world experiences and personal growth

Extension Activity “Awareness Programme on Personal Hygiene

The Department of English, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Kristu Jayanti University, Bengaluru, conducted an extension activity, Awareness Programme on Personal hygiene on 16 March 2026, at the Settlement in K. Narayanapura. Students of fourth semester JOPYEN B actively participated in organising and executing the session.
The primary objective was to educate children on the importance of maintaining personal hygiene.The session included simple demonstrations to help children understand hygienic practices.Interactive activities and questions kept the children engaged throughout the programme. Students used charts and visual aids to make the session more effective and interesting. The children responded enthusiastically and participated actively.The programme also emphasised the prevention of diseases through hygiene.Overall, the activity was informative and impactful for both students and children.It helped foster social responsibility and awareness among the participants.

Gender Equity Program

The Department of English conducted an extension activity on “Gender Equity Program” on 10th March 2026 at a slum area near Kothanur. The initiative aimed to promote awareness of gender equality and social inclusivity.
Students from First Year JP English and Third Year English Literature actively participated in the program. Guided by Dr. Anindita Chowdhury and Ms. Chippy Abraham, the session included discussions on gender roles, discrimination, and equal opportunities.
Students engaged with the local community through interactive activities, spreading awareness and encouraging dialogue. The program was well received and successfully highlighted the importance of equality, respect, and empowerment.

UBA Village Extension Programme at Agasarahalli
Date: 30 January 2026
As part of the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) Village Extension Programme, students of B.A. English (JOPYEN), along with faculty members, visited Agasarahalli village under the Hettahakki Panchayat, Hoskote, on 30 January 2026. The visit was aimed at conducting a feasibility study and understanding the socio-economic conditions of the village through direct community engagement.
During the visit, students carried out a door-to-door household survey covering 40 houses, interacting with villagers to gather information on living conditions, education, healthcare, sanitation, employment, and basic amenities. The team also visited the local school and anganwadi centre to observe educational infrastructure and early childhood care facilities.
The programme provided students with valuable experiential learning by enabling them to apply their communication, observation, and analytical skills in a real-world setting. At the same time, the initiative helped document village-level data that can support future development efforts under the UBA framework, strengthening the institution’s ongoing engagement with the local community.

Extension Activity- Visit to Migrant Settlement, Kothanur
Date: 31 October 2025
The Department of English, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Kristu Jayanti University Bengaluru, organised an extension activity titled “Kits of Care” on 31st October, 2025, at the Migrant Settlement in Kothanur. The activity aimed to foster educational support and social responsibility among students. The main objectives of the initiative included promoting literacy by providing basic learning materials to underprivileged children, sensitising college students to community needs, and strengthening the bond between the institution and the local neighbourhood. The “Kits of Care” activity promoted educational support and social responsibility by providing essential stationery to underprivileged children. With contributions from the MA English Literature 2025 Alumni Batch, 22 volunteers from I MA English and the SDG club distributed Rs. 720 worth of materials to 35 children. The initiative fostered empathy and teamwork among volunteers, strengthened community ties, and encouraged children’s enthusiasm for learning.

Promotion of Universal Ethics and Values

The extension programme on the Promotion of Universal Ethics and Values was organized by the English Department on 2nd April, 2025 to promote awareness and understanding of ethical principles that transcend cultural, religious, and national boundaries. Twenty-four (24) students of fourth semester JOEN class and two (2) faculty members from the department visited the Government Primary School in Kothanur, Bengaluru and had an interactive and inspiring session with the students and teachers of the school.
The session aimed to foster a deeper understanding of core values such as justice, fairness, respect, and integrity, and how these universal concepts play a crucial role in shaping individual behaviour and societal harmony. Throughout the programme, participants engaged in interactive sessions and discussions, where they explored contemporary ethical dilemmas and how universal values could be applied in resolving such challenges. These activities encouraged critical thinking, helping participants reflect on ethical decision-making in various contexts, from personal relationships to professional environments. One of the key outcomes was the strengthening of cross-cultural understanding, as participants realized the common ethical ground shared across different cultures and traditions. This promoted empathy, respect, and social cohesion among individuals from diverse backgrounds. Furthermore, the programme equipped participants with the tools to make more informed, ethical decisions in their daily lives, contributing to a more responsible, harmonious society. In conclusion, the programme successfully promoted the importance of universal ethics and values, encouraging individuals to incorporate these principles into their daily actions for the greater good of society.

Community Engagement –Literacy Programme
Date: 04 April 2025
On 4th April, The Department of English, Kristu Jayanti College had organized a community engagement programme- Literacy programme on Friday, 04.04.2025. The students of III BA English Literature along with faculty in charges Dr.R.Vidyavathi and Dr Nila Rajeev visited the primary school, kothanur. The main objective of this programme is to meet the children of primary classes and to equip them with few golden phrases and general knowledge attributes for children. All the children felt very happy and interacted well with our students. They displayed their skills by uttering rhymes, singing songs and quoting kannada jingles. Note books were given to all the kids. we left the school by 3: 30 pm assuring the students that the literacy programme will be continued in the forthcoming days.

Extension Activity: Collaborations with Community

The Department of English, Kristu Jayanti College (Autonomous), conducted a community extension programme titled ‘Care and Connect: Connect to Care’ at Guanella Preethi Nivas, Bengaluru, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. The initiative aimed to foster empathy, emotional awareness, and social responsibility among students by encouraging meaningful interactions with the elderly. Rooted in the values of compassion and respect, the programme emphasized that senior citizens require affection, attention, and emotional connection far more than material possessions. Students from I BA English actively engaged the residents through songs, games, dance, and heartfelt conversations, creating a vibrant and joyful atmosphere. Drawing from their academic knowledge of literature and communication, students applied their understanding of human emotions, aging, memory, and solitude to connect with the residents in sensitive and thoughtful ways. This experience not only enriched their interpersonal skills but also deepened their awareness of life’s complexities beyond the classroom. The visit had a profound impact instilling in students a sense of gratitude and social commitment, offering the elderly companionship and joy, and strengthening the bond between the college and the neighbourhood community. The activity was meaningfully coordinated by Dr. Ben J Milton and Dr. Thejas Gigy Thomas from the Department of English.

Extension activity at Narayanapura Government Primary School
Date: 04 & 05 March 2025
The Department of English, Kristu Jayanti College, conducted an extension activity at Narayanapura Government Primary School, Karnataka on the 4th and 5th of March,2025, to foster reading habits among 4th and 5th standard students. 38 II MA English Literature students facilitated engaging sessions over two days. On Day 1, book distribution, group reading, picture walks, and action-based storytelling helped improve pronunciation and vocabulary. On Day 2, creative activities like drawing, story completion, and a storytelling circle enhanced comprehension and confidence. The initiative successfully ignited enthusiasm for reading, improving students’ storytelling skills, comprehension, and creativity while making reading a fun and interactive experience.
