Certificate Course - “Creative Writing”

The Department of English organised a 30-hour Certificate Course titled “Creative Writing” from 19th January 2026 to 26th February 2026. The programme was coordinated by Ms. Gowrikrishna S Kumar, Teaching Assistant, and Dr. David Paul S, Assistant Professor, Department of English. Conducted online via Zoom, the course was open to both internal and external participants, offering a dynamic platform for creative engagement and skill development.
The certificate course featured a series of engaging lectures and interactive sessions conducted by distinguished resource persons, including published authors, creative writers, editorial contributors, and poets from reputed institutions and literary circles. Their expertise provided participants with practical exposure to different forms and techniques of writing.
The sessions focused on various aspects of creative writing, including fiction writing, poetry, editorial writing, and journal writing. Participants were introduced to the fundamentals of storytelling, character development, narrative voice, and stylistic expression. Special emphasis was placed on journal writing as a reflective practice, encouraging participants to develop consistency, observation skills, and personal voice in their writing.
The resource persons also shared insights into the writing and publishing process, offering guidance on drafting, editing, and refining written work for different platforms. Interactive activities, writing exercises, and peer discussions enabled participants to apply their learning and enhance their creative and critical abilities.
The 30-hour certificate course proved to be an enriching and engaging experience for all participants. Certificate Course in Creative Writing

The Department of English successfully conducted a 30-hour Certificate Course in Creative Writing from 26th January to 26th February in online mode via Zoom. The course was organized with the objective of nurturing creative expression, enhancing writing skills, and introducing participants to diverse forms of literary writing.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across various disciplines. Over the span of one month, participants engaged in interactive sessions that covered key areas of creative writing, including poetry, short story writing, narrative techniques, descriptive writing, character development, dialogue writing, and elements of style and voice. Special emphasis was given to imagination, originality, and the process of drafting and revising creative work.
The sessions were designed to be highly engaging and activity-oriented. Participants were encouraged to share their writings, take part in peer reviews, and receive constructive feedback. Writing prompts, brainstorming activities, and collaborative exercises helped create a dynamic and supportive learning environment. The Zoom platform facilitated smooth interaction, allowing participants to actively engage in discussions and presentations.
Throughout the 30-hour duration, the resource person provided valuable insights into the craft of writing, practical techniques for developing ideas, and guidance on publishing opportunities. Certificate Course on “Voices from the Margins: Exploring Indigenous (Dalit and Tribal) Narratives”

The Department of English, Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be Universities), Bengaluru, organised a 30-hour Certificate Course titled “Voices from the Margins: Exploring Indigenous (Dalit and Tribal) Narratives”. The course was coordinated by Dr. Anindita Chowdhury and Dr. Mary Raymer, Assistant Professors of Department of English. Conducted online via Zoom from 15th September 2025 to 18th October 2025, the programme was open to both internal and external participants, providing a dynamic platform for interdisciplinary learning and discussion.
The certificate course featured a series of engaging lectures and interactive sessions conducted by distinguished resource persons from reputed universities across the country. Through these sessions, the participants explored the evolution of indigenous and Dalit writings, oral traditions, resistance narratives, and the intersections of identity, caste, and culture in Indian literary discourse. The sessions provided participants with critical insights into the politics of representation, the aesthetics of subaltern literature, and the importance of reclaiming narrative spaces for marginalised communities. The 30-hour course proved to be an intellectually stimulating and transformative experience for the participants. It not only broadened their literary horizons but also sensitised them to issues of social justice, inclusion, and cultural diversity. The Department’s initiative continues to foster academic inquiry and research engagement through such multidisciplinary learning platforms.
