The inception of the Writers’ Association coincides with the Silver Jubilee of Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University). The association aims to nurture and promote creative and critical literary expressions among its members. To any student interested in the marvellous ways in which language works, the platform provides an opportunity to explore and enhance their writing abilities. The association organizes workshops to offer training and suggestions to improve the members’ skills and a platform to present their work to peers and mentors, followed by discussions and critiquing. The association also hosts a blog and publishes a monthly newsletter, allowing the members to showcase their work and engage with a wider world of like-minded individuals. We aim to provide a flourishing platform for students who tend to keep away from the stage but are keen to work closely in the quietude of literary engagement, irrespective of their discipline. The association plans to bring forth student publications including poetry, stories, and articles. Through its activities, the association envisions cultivating empathetic, compassionate, and ethical mind-sets that operate on shared human values.

The Writers’ Association of Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru, commemorated World Cancer Day by organizing a Creative Writing Competition centered on the evocative prompt “Survival Begins With Hope.” The event sought to create a reflective literary space where students could engage with themes of resilience, healing, and human perseverance through creative expression. Bringing together participants from diverse academic disciplines, the competition encouraged students to articulate their thoughts and emotions through poetry and prose, demonstrating how literature can serve as a powerful medium for empathy, awareness, and social engagement. The submissions were evaluated based on originality, thematic relevance, creativity, and literary depth. In the Poetry category, Gracelin J Blessy (24ENGA02) secured first place, followed by Ananya Singh (23BTFS05) in second place and Andrea J (25ACAB09) in third place. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across various departments, reflecting the interdisciplinary appeal of literary expression. The open-mic format encouraged participants to present poetry, short stories, personal narratives, and spoken-word pieces, thereby fostering confidence, originality, and critical thinking. The thematic focus subtly highlighted women’s voices and perspectives, aligning with the objectives of the Women’s Empowerment Cell to promote gender sensitivity and inclusivity within creative spaces. Tales And Verses - Live Literature Event

The Writers’ Association of Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University) successfully organised “Tales and Verses,” its flagship live literature program, celebrating creativity, storytelling, and poetic expression. The event, held at the H2 Auditorium, Humanities Block, was open to all Jayantians and was witnessed by around 180 students. It brought together passionate writers, performers, musicians, and literature enthusiasts on a single platform to experience the magic of words in a live setting. The program featured original poems, short stories, and reflective pieces presented by selected writers, exploring themes such as identity, emotions, relationships, society, and imagination, and creating an engaging and thought-provoking atmosphere. The event showcased performances by Vishnudev S, Mr. Max, Anjumol Aby, Bhadra, Sai Chandana Deepshika, Jovita, Angelo, and Russell, whose expressions were complemented by the talented musicians Eric, Simeon, Riaan, and Viyon, adding rhythm and depth to the presentations. The smooth execution of the program was made possible by the dedicated efforts of the dynamic Tech Team, the ever-vibrant Media Team, and the scintillating Designing Team, ensuring a seamless and memorable experience. “Tales and Verses” stood as a vibrant celebration of live literature, reaffirming the Writers’ Association’s commitment to nurturing creativity, encouraging young voices, and creating meaningful literary experiences on campus.

World Wetlands Day

The Writers’ Association of Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University) organized an online Creative Writing Competition in observance of World Wetlands Day, based on the theme “Between land and water, breathes life of the earth.” The competition was conducted in virtual mode, and students submitted their write-ups between February 02, 2026, and February 11, 2026. The event aimed to foster environmental awareness and literary expression by encouraging participants to reflect on the ecological and cultural significance of wetlands through creative prose and poetry, and it received enthusiastic participation from students across various departments. In the Prose Writing category, Abhirami KS (25JPEB02) secured first place, followed by Harshitha R (24CBAB15) in second place and Cordizah Ropmay (24BBAE14) in third place. The competition received enthusiastic participation from students across various disciplines, and the submissions reflected originality, critical awareness, and a nuanced understanding of the transformative role of education. Talestra- National Level Intercollegiate Literary Fest

TALESTRA, the national-level intercollegiate literary fest exclusively dedicated to writing, was organised by the Writers’ Association of Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru, on 4 February 2026. The fest was conceived as a creative platform to celebrate the power of words and to encourage young writers from various universities to showcase their talents across multiple literary forms. The inauguration ceremony commenced at 9:30 a.m. at the H2 Auditorium in the Humanities Block, with the Presidential Address delivered by Fr. Joshy Mathew, Chief Human Resource Officer and Director of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, followed by the Inaugural Address by award-winning author Shweta Taneja. A total of 76 participants from different institutions across the country took part in this national-level literary fest, making it a vibrant and intellectually engaging event. The fest featured a series of creative writing competitions, including Rhyme Rendezvous, Flip the Script, Pass the Plot, Spoken Word Showdown, Rhetoric Report, and Treasure Hunt, each designed to test originality, creativity, and critical thinking. Participants actively engaged in these events, creating a dynamic space for storytelling, collaboration, and literary exchange. The valedictory ceremony was held in the evening, with the address delivered by Fr. Dr. Marialal Joseph, Director of Research and Development. The overall championship was jointly won by Christ University, Central Campus, Bangalore, India, and Madras Christian College (Autonomous), Tambaram, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. TALESTRA successfully fulfilled its aim of nurturing emerging literary voices, inspiring original thought, and building a vibrant community of student writers, truly living up to its theme, “Where Tales Transpire Magic.”

The session featured Mr. Abhirbhav Katwal, a student author from IV B.Sc. Forensic Science ‘B’ Section, who engaged the audience by sharing his literary journey and creative evolution. A key highlight of the session was his discussion of his maiden publication titled Mid-Summer Love. The author candidly reflected on his first publishing experience, shedding light on the challenges, learning curves, and perseverance involved in bringing a manuscript to print.

The workshop was conducted with the objective of nurturing creative expression and introducing students to the art of scriptwriting through theatre-oriented perspectives.
The session was led by Dr. Ganesh Krishnamoorthy, a distinguished Theatre Practitioner and Script Writing Consultant, and Visiting Faculty, Department of English, University of Madras. Drawing upon his rich academic and theatrical experience, Dr. Krishnamoorthy engaged participants in insightful discussions on narrative structure, character development, dialogue construction, and the performative dimensions of scripts. His interactive approach encouraged students to view scriptwriting as a dynamic blend of imagination, discipline, and lived experience.

Meliora- Intra-University Literary Fest

The inaugural session began with an invocation song, followed by a welcome address by Dr. L. Santhosh Kumar, Assistant Professor of English and Faculty Coordinator of The Writers’ Association. The ceremonial lighting of the lamp and release of the newsletter were led by Fr. Dr. Maria Lal Joseph, Director of Research and Development, who also delivered the inaugural address. Dr. Briji Jose, Fest Coordinator, presented the concept note, and Mr. Vishnudev S, Student Secretary, delivered the vote of thanks. Experiential Visit: An Immersive Literary Journey to RK Narayan's House and the Oriental Research Institute, Mysore

On September 27, 2025, 106 students from the Writers' Association of Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University), accompanied by four faculty members, embarked on an enriching journey to two of Mysore's most significant literary landmarks. Their first destination, RK Narayan's house, offered an intimate exploration of the life and work of one of India's most beloved writers. Within the modest walls of Narayan's residence, students were able to grasp the profound simplicity that defined his storytelling. The experience highlighted the nuances of crafting powerful narratives from the ordinary, teaching the students that true literary excellence often lies in the subtle details and human connections that echo in everyday life. The second part of the journey took them to the Oriental Research Institute, where the vast collection of ancient manuscripts deepened their understanding of literary history. The rare texts on display illuminated the importance of preservation and scholarly diligence in shaping the future of literature. Together, these experiences helped the students appreciate the delicate art of writing—understanding that being a good writer is not just about telling a story, but about weaving it with care, respect for tradition, and an unwavering commitment to capturing the essence of the human experience. This Experiential Learning trip left the students not only inspired but profoundly reflective on their own potential as writers.

As part of the Writers' Association Live Literature Series, the event provided a creative platform for students to express themselves through poetry and storytelling, covering a wide range of emotions and themes. The morning began with a joyful poem about life's simple pleasures, followed by a nostalgic reflection on childhood memories. The resource person for the workshop was Dr. Shintu Dennis, Assistant Professor and prolific poet from the Postgraduate Department of English, St. Joseph’s College, Moolamattom, Kerala. With her engaging presence and expertise in poetry, Dr. Shintu Dennis guided the participants in exploring how emotions can be transformed into artistic verse. She emphasized the intricate relationship between feelings and language, highlighting how poetry serves as a medium to give voice to deeply personal experiences while resonating with universal human sentiments. The Writers’ Association of Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru conducted its much-awaited Auditions 2025 on 7th August 2025. The event was held across three venues - Conference Hall A1 (Plenary Hall), Admin Block, and the Conclave Hall of the Admin Block – to accommodate the overwhelming participation.
The auditions aimed to identify and nurture budding writers with a passion for creative expression and literary engagement. Reflecting the Association’s vision, the event celebrated the idea that writing is not just about well-shaped sentences but also a deeper reflection of one’s voice, thoughts, and soul.
The response was remarkable, with nearly 415 students enthusiastically turning up for the auditions. Participants showcased their unique voices through poetry, prose, and other creative forms, making the selection process both exciting and challenging.

Kristu Jayanti College’s Writers’ Association commemorated World Poetry Day with a vibrant celebration titled "Verses Without Boundaries." The event featured two distinct poetry writing competitions—"Echoes of the Future" and "Global Voices: A Poetry of Place." Thomas, Financial Administrator and Director of Jayantian Extension Services delivered the valedictory address. Fr. Writers' Association organized A One-day workshop on "Poetry From Ideation, Visualization, and Composition to Publication" on October 21, 2024. Dr. R. Abilash Chandran, Assistant Professor, Department of English and Cultural Studies CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru, Karnataka, graced the occasion. He emphasized this fact by saying Poetry can have many different purposes. It can be a form of self-expression, a description of the world's beauty, entertainment, or even a teaching tool. He gave a hands-on training session to make students understand how poets should use language to pen a poem. As students read and discussed the work of professional poets, they were also introduced to poetic techniques and understood how various elements combine to produce a good poem. The workshop had student participants from different deaneries of Kristu Jayanti College.

The Writers Association held an audition on September 19, 2024, from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM. The event included 130 participants who composed writings on the themes "Tell me of a greater grief which would lessen mine and "Heaven or Hell thinking makes it so." The audition drew diverse students from several disciplines, highlighting the Writers Association's inclusion. The caliber of written submissions by participants was praiseworthy. The event fostered an excellent and motivating environment that revitalized creativity among the attendees. The Association carefully chose 59 students from a pool of 120 participants.
